Tbh I quite liked the first AvP until the moment when the black girl united with the pred. After that its just pure shit. But the whole idea of self disarrangement pyramid filled with xenos, preds and humans is somehow brilliant and its all up to how its represented. I am not fan of all this mixing of the Alien and Pred universes but such pyramid scenario can be very interesting imo  :) (also the pyramid was the best map for Infestation in AvP 2010 ^^ )

The Alien money-shot. ;D  Looks like a definite L4D-style help-your-buddy-up action.  Could be good...

But I think my brain just exploded, because the goddamned aliens look small as hell to me, now.  Like, ridiculously small, like they made them smaller.  Look at the one above the marines head, he's f**king way too small.

I don't know, I hope they don't look that way in-game.  I'll be eating a whole lot of words, gawdamn you Pitchford!  Your new name is Randy Salespitchford...  AvP 2010 Aliens looked bloody huge when they were in your face.  When they did kill-moves, you often looked up at them before the head-eat like they do in the films.

I'm gonna have a Lambert freak out.

Yeah, seriously. I think it's going well. The only thing about it that I don't like so far is the glowing sacs on the spitter. And I can get past that.
Title: Re: The PAX Prime 2012 Thread - Panel Video Inside
Post by: WinterActual on Sep 01, 2012, 11:57:58 AM
It's not about getting past the sacks. Its about why there are like this in the first place? Everybody who's watched the movies at least once will know how important the darkness is for the xenos and why a glowing part of their body is not a good idea (no matter what color is it). Remove the glow, paint em grey or something - everything should be fine :)

I agree. That's the exact reason that I don't like the glowing. But, like I said, I can get past it.

Yea I haven't been in that thread in some time now. As for the franchise, I just take it as it comes. The only one I really don't care for is AVPR (Yes, I enjoyed A3 and 4.) I mean Wolf is downright BA, but the rest is pretty cringe worthy.

I have a feeling that A:CM will really deliver, despite lowered expectations. I'm willing to bet on it ( Here's to hoping I don't eat my words :P)

Doesnt matter anyway since Moosh won, as far as Im concerned.

Yeah that didn't come off very well and it makes me wonder if he even understood the concerns that were brought up by the petition (despite theme being clearly described). Everyone knew that Bella was a main character, that was never the issue. Just makes it sound a lot like damage control. If he has said something to the effect of, it was something they were trying to get working, it would have sounded less arrogant.

Moosh, ol' Randy "I've been stealing from Aliens my entire career" Pitchford can try to fool people into thinking that they've had playable females this WHOLE TIME, but if it weren't for the petition you made and the attention of so many of ALIENS actors it garnered, it's unlikely to have been included. Good job on you!  :)

I do find it hard to believe though, that if playable female marines were in there the whole time, that Randy wouldn't have let the cat out of the bag when Moosh started getting the actors signing the petition - or perhaps it amused him; I guess we'll never know as he's (quite expectedly to be honest) only going to make statements that he believes that will secure him sales of his product.

To be fair, the same information that Randy Pitchford just revealed at PAX came to me this week and I even shared it with Moosh not long ago. So I wouldn't say it's fabricated like some ppl have suggested.

Regardless of any speculation, I think everyone should be happy. Moosh's efforts have been most impressive and she clearly deserves credit for having run such a great campaign. You've won to my eyes. So Congrats!

Well I finally got to see the clip of Randy addressing the playable females petition and it was disappointing, to say the least.

They are laughing about the petition because apparently its "wrong," Bella has been on the cover this whole time, etc.

Earlier in the origin live chat interview, Brian Burleson emphatically stated no playable females.

It feels like they don't even read their own forums. I hope gearbox proves me wrong with the panel tomorrow because Pitchford really came off as condescending towards the fans and ignorant of the situation.

EDIT: ChrisF, community manager at gearbox forums spoke with Pitchford about this and what Randy was referring to apparently were the press and media reports getting it wrong by saying no females in the game. I will keep my fingers crossed for tomorrow!

Ive been excited from this game from the get go. Even the new alien types dont bother me much... but something that is killing it for me right now is the aliens being in 3rd persion view.... Can anyone confirm if there is an option to switch to FPS for aliens? I mean this is a FPS after all...

Thanks ^ you pretty much summed up my exact thoughts.  This whole thing is damage control. Gearboxs own people said females weren't playable and pitchford expects us to buy his BS story about "having no clue where that story came from".  Its really hard to understand the marketing strategy behind "keeping playable females a secret" especially when its escalated to gaming forums and reporting agencies linking a petition started by fans explicitly requesting the feature.

One of the reports from a previous PAX event confirms that the camera switches to first person when the xeno is running through the vents.

@acrediblesource: Indeed, and I'm sure a lot of the fans would appreciate being assimilated into GBX so that they can make this game how they want. :)

Well I guess that is better than anyways, but really, we should have the option to be FPS the entire time. Since they still have time to tweak if anyone else feels this way we should let Gear Box know!! If you are a Pax please pass on that suggestions

I don't know why is this low player count. I am wondering if its because of the consoles? But I will be surprised if thats the case because other games with more powerful engines are supporting higher player count. Infestation with just 8 players is simply boring. Why not at least 16? I will be fine with 9v9 or 10v10. Thats very good numbers for nice massacre but 4v4 is TOO LOW in any scenario!

Honestly I think limiting it to 4 vs 4 was a game play decision. I'm thinking its to prevent the game becoming like avp 2010 where the aliens would just swarm from every direction without tactics to pretty much overwhelm their targets. In my opinion gearbox wants to manage the level of intensity and carnage in the multi player experience rather than have it reduced to running and gunning / hack slash run tactics. In avp large games had you dieing as quick as every 10 seconds which just frustrates players.

Well if we are going that route.... then the game should have 12 alien players and only 4 marines at a time. ;D

I'm only saying that limiting the number of players slows the pace of the game. Allowing more time to think and strategize. Rather than just zipping all over the place which quite frankly is boring... fun at times but does nothing for replay ability.

QuoteThese waypoints also serve as a temporary safe zone from the xenos so we could pick up some armor, reload ammo, and swap weapons. Once we were all set it was back to trudging through the infested tunnels. Each of the waypoints have a specific goal, like using a blowtorch to open a sealed door or waiting for an elevator. But until that door opens or the elevator arrives, our backs are up against a wall constantly killing members of Team Xenomorph.

This truly does sound like the 'Alien' mode I've always wanted, can't fricken wait.

I am fine with 4v4 and the game is looking great. They don't need AI bots for the Aliens in escape. The human controlled xenos get to respawn after a few seconds so they should have no problem with keeping up the pressure against the marines. Once you start adding more xenos like AI, then they would have to nerf the aliens and that sounds bad to me. I think the current setup is better.

Can't wait to play! :)

In the 2 new interviews it seemed as though marines were able to shoot off aliens that had pounced onto marine buddies and help them up afterward, the recent one shows an alien literally "ground and pounding" a marine before being killed, the clip cuts before the downed player gets up, but it seemed he was saved.

Sounds promising, I'll be looking at those vids tonight but I'm not holding out on it until we get some clear footage and maybe a spoken confirmation. It might not be healing/reviving but it's half way there I suppose.

By the way, does anyone else remember someone saying (I'm pretty sure it was Randy) about how health regenerated but armour did not, and when armour had been damaged beyond repair (possibly due to acid - this sounds like a nod to Hick's being sprayed with acid in the elevator and how he had to remove the armour) the player would cast his armour to the ground?

Beware there are some minor story spoilers regarding WY and the Sulaco, nothing too surprising though.

ZPS features 24 players at once, starting with 3 zombie players vs 21 survivors and it works pretty well. The Zombie team wins in 99% of the time, no matter if the map is Objective based or Survival type.

I personally hope they include one of the already established xeno breeds like a queen or praetorian but I can't see that happening for 2 reasons:

1. The Praetorian, going off what I've seen, is not really on a par with the crusher in that it seems to small and similar in utilisation to the warrior/soldier; the queen on the otherhand seems totally overpowered compared to the crusher so could only be used if their different stages 'evolvement' if you get my meaning.

2. These 2 xenos (the crusher and the as yet unannounced xeno) may only be used if the player reaches an 'evolve' location. This concept of evolvement suggests that they are totally new and unique breeds of xenos only produced by the specific events which unfolded on LV-426, when the atmo. blew up, meaning that this will be similar to the crusher and spitter in that we have never seen it before.

I don't know about you guys but I find that disappointing since the only original, playable xeno sub-species we can play as are the lurker (giger alien) and soldier (warrior). They are missing out so many including the runner, praetorian, queen, facehugger & chestburster, and you could possibly even include the carrier and ravager aliens from AVP:E.

The praetorian is not exactly "original" since it's not from the movie so we can not say its cannon but if thats the case they should remove all the new xenos. Anyway, I don't think they will add the Praet because the Crusher is somehow the same type of enemy, the only difference being that the Crusher walks on all four while the Praet is bipedal.

Here is an interview from PAX, but the lady doing the interview is only pretending to play the games. The clips of gameplay for A:CM are "borrowed" from the gameplay clips Ikarop posted from the Brian Burleson interview.

Also the part where she pretends to play "Dishonored," she is not wearing headphones, just making faces while standing next to someone who is sitting down and actually playing.

QuoteEven the sound has been scrutinized. Mulkey explained that, surprisingly, one of the biggest hurdles for the team was to reproduce the iconic pulse rifle sound. "When you're doing it in a film, that's easier to control when the firing bursts are done, all that kind of stuff," he said. "In the game, you can start and stop the firing any time you want. What it ends up doing is, you start getting this really repetitive duh-duh-duh! Duh-duh-duh! Duh-duh-duh! Ugh, it's horrible." They were able to tweak the sound effect to work well in the game, but it was a time consuming process.

Wut?  Haven't watched this latest vid yet... but that sounds like it could go either way.  Could get some really cool designs or some lime-green Call of Duty failiens.  At least there are more options.  Options!

I just wanted to laugh at Penny Arcade interview worrying about the game being 'bro-heavy.'    Holy hilarious, but I agree completely with the interviewer on his concerns.  It doesn't look very scary to me either.

Still, I have to give these bastards credit. :-\  I don't want to, but they've managed to even out their fail with some smashing success.

They would be so golden if the Pitchman could keep a lid on it.  "We like to let the game speak for itself" during the panel almost made me slap myself, lol.

Just went out and pre ordered my collectors edition! More than excited for this game!

Though, not really too excited about whats coming inside of it. I mean the statue is cool, but a lot of the things such as the four movie characters, ripleys flamethrower, and the additional customization you can get just by pre ordering.

So that leaves only the firing range and the two weapons (SEBB/Phase Plasma). Kinda makes me wonder if getting the collectors edition is really worth the extra 50 dollars? I guess what I'm saying is I would prefer more in game content rather than some patches that will sit inside my nightstand.

BTW Why does the Pulse Rifle have a 40 round clip?! I remember a while back that a leaked image for the CE came out and it had the "classic pulse rifle" and also I think one of the developers said something about the original being in game with the ammo counter on the opposite side of the gun. Hope thats still in the game.

Don't worry it refers to the marine corps terminology for xenomorphs, i.e. 'bugs'. For example, "Is this gonna be a stand up fight, sir, or another 'bug' hunt?"

Erm No, Gearbox did.

To put it into context, that is a result of GBX thinking, "Hey so Hudson referred to xenomorphs as bugs, so let's call one of the the xeno Level ranks 'wasp', yeah!! I just thought of that myself  8)", so that of course leaves me thinking  ::).

It actually looks tolerable, more like a last-chance strike to buy you a few seconds to fire, not a block or a 'knock-you-on-your-ass' attack.  It also looks like the Aliens attacks are much faster when attacking, and were usually able to overpower the marines or kill them from behind before they could use it.

Not too bad.

But that Alien combo/melee shit, I don't know about that.  If you watch, the alien does like a left-right swing, then a head snap, then ends it with a tail strike.  It looks like a 3rd-person fighting game.  Don't really know how I feel.  Think I would prefer a light/heavy attack thing like AvP2010, would look less corny.

Anybody notice the Sonic Electronic Ball Breakers, too?  Looks like they'll temporarily stun an Alien with an electric field.

Well considering the alien heads are meant to be dick shaped, we would probably see a ton of small headed aliens galloping around.

And this gameplay is so damn boring, I can't see myself playing TDM ever, need to see some escape gameplay.

FFS people! No matter how good this game looks, all you can do is complain. The blood is too green?! Seriously?!

Am I the only one who thinks that this game seems to be coming along nicely? Some of you people make me ashamed to say I'm part of this community. >:(
All we want is the authentic Aliens experience Gearbox keeps patting themselves on the back about. It's either authentic. Or it's not. This is clearly not.

This isn't to say sacrificing some authenticity to have good gameplay and multiplayer balancing wouldn't need to be done, but the problems we're referring to don't have anything to do with that.

Agreed. However, the stupid Spitters shouldn't exist in the first place because there's no need for them. For example: the Runners can spit acid. So I want to know why doesn't Gearbox have Runners?

Speaking of which, why are the Lurkers suppose to be the fastest and most agile Aliens in the game when the Runners clearly fill that role?

We can't do that, because then the player would have to pick out the Spitter from the crowd by actually looking for it, or waiting for it to attack.

This requires a certain degree of intelligence that's just too advanced for the modern gamer.

It's much better to offend the smart, capable players, seeing as how they're obviously in the minority, and not put off the hordes of idiots who will complain if the game presents them with even the slightest challenge or demand on their attention.

GBX are pleasing just the casual gamers in both ACM and BL2. I don't know why they are not thinking about the players who want some challenge and authentic feeling/experience. I want to see some server side options for PC to restrict the new type aliens.

this game is being made with consoles in mind, unfortunately.

Maybe they envisaged the runner to be too fragile for it to fit the role they had in mind.

Quote from: Bio Mech HunterSpeaking of which, why are the Lurkers suppose to be the fastest and most agile Aliens in the game when the Runners clearly fill that role?

Because the runners aren't in the game, not multiplayer anyway.

QuoteMany times one of us would go down and call out for help. Simply run over to your friend, hold said button and watch as they rise to their feet. At one point I was down for so long and the picture started to fade. The screen fades to black, the sound fades out as I fired my pistol in panic. Not too mention the video being hit with static for the personnel watching the marine video feed, an incredibly brilliant touch that fans of the Aliens universe will love.

This is exactly what I was hoping for, and more; since they added the marine camera gear which shows low life signs via static, on near death. I additionally like the 'last stand' mechanic (dear god, CoD has made me despise that phrase) where you can continually fire off your pistol when downed - obviously a reference to Vasquez - just don't allow us to suicidally detonate grenades from this position, please! :D.

If they truly think the Runner would be too fragile for the role, then they shouldn't be making this game. At least, not until they refamiliarize themselves with the films. It's a freak'n Alien for crying out loud. By default, that makes it tough enough.

If they aren't in single-player, Gearbox should put them in single-player. Likewise, if they aren't in multiplayer they should put them in multiplayer. Not create a whole new Alien for a role that's already filled. Especially one with glowing "Hey, over hear! Shoot me!" bull's-eyes on it's head. What was Randy and his team thinking? *facepalm*

The Spitters irritate me so much because Gearbox is always swearing up and down, "authenticity this, authenticity that" when they're screwing up even the most basic Alien lore. I'm realizing more and more Gearbox wasn't the right developer for the job. The only thing they got going for them is the enthusiasm. Which, is starting to get annoying. I'm fairly sure we've all seen their interviews and commentary.

We've seen two Aliens in the movies who lack big glowing bulbs on their dopey looking heads, spit acid.

A specific class of Alien that spits is as pointless and redundant, as saying something is pointless and redundant.  If they want true accuracy to the films then all Aliens should be able to spit.

But this isn't a movie - it's a game and things like spitters and other classes that have no place in a film, can suit a game context.

Baseless.

Yup.  The aliens in A:R were spitters. The Bambi Burster in Alien3 was also spitter and yet it has no representation (that we've seen so far in A:CM).   Instead, we get something with glowing bulbs that resembles something from the EU instead of something from the actual canon.

Still, I haven't seen anything as ridiculous as the newborn despite every new breed of alien looking worse than the previous.

I suppose things could be worse...

The Newborn actually made sense though.

Dunno if these Aliens will make sense in the context of the game.  If it ends up they're all geneticially engineered, it's the same ballpark as the Newborn.

To be honest, I just want them to fix the ridiculous running animations first. I can live with glowing sacks on a dingy alien because it's just a video game and it should be fun. But fix those damn animations.

I don't think Gearbox realizes that, though they blabber on about canon and authenticity while royally screwing up several key, key elements of the series, they're actually falling in line to continue the f**king facepalm canon mess that we've all been enjoying for the past decade plus.

;)

They think they're winning, when they're losing, but they're still winning, because in Aliens canon, when you lose, you really win.

Of course they will win, simply put no matter the liberties taken by gearbox there will still only be a small percentage of diehard fans who wont buy the game as a result... Even if they alienate a couple thousand or hundred thousand fans there will be plenty of casual fans who'll buy, and play it. Then the casual gamers who are familiar with the franchise who will if it plays well enough. Itll at the very least be like AvP 2010 - hit hard, make a quick buck, then die inside 6 months. Still profitable.

Yeah, I can't imagine more than a fraction of people are going to go "The colony is still there?  Big glowing bulbs on an Aliens head?  Your product offends me and it shall not receive my coinage!  Good day to you, sir!"  Probably a few people will hold off until the reviews come in, but ultimately a huge chunk of Alien fandom will shell out for it.

38:30 - 40:00 is quite a good section of that video; he talks a tidbit about the xeno soldier and lurker and you also learn that you can actually have 2 crushers fielded at once, which also suggests that the marines can have 2 smartguns fielded at once. In addition we learn that, for the campaign, the xeno spawn-points are changed depending on whether the player is playing co-op or solo.

Also, skip right to the end to see quite a good firefight (if you could call it that, it's more just the GBX xenos co-ordinating an ambush on the packed-together marine team) but it did remind me a lot of the second fight scene in the aliens movie, but with more action and beheadings - which brings me to my next compliment, I am quite surprised (in a good way) that they implemented beheadings and complete limb removal into the combat, which makes it quite a bit gorier (possibly even encorporating a more serious element, although the spitter possibly cancels that out lol) than the movies IMO.

Same old same old; Randy having fangasms, and old footage. Still, nice to see a female marine on multiplayer mood

Im not sure whether not that would be awesome or horrible; I guess it depends on how they present it

Considering the thermonuclear detonation of the AP station was about as dangerous is mild sunburn, all bets are off regarding their fates....

I'll just take a huge guess and say that WY have some secret experimental shit (as seen in the concept art) that Burke and Hudson are no doubt a part of.

What piece of conceptual art are you referring to in particular ???

and I asked some other question in other thread that could be also fitting here:

http://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/index.php?topic=34412.new (http://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/index.php?topic=34412.new)

and one more thing: I think the mention of encountering Hudson or Burke in some form was too much for the G4TV presenter :D

Randy, you don't see Hudson or Burke die in Cameron's film because it's an effective filming style. The fate of not knowing what happened to them, the fact that the film leaves something to our imagination is what is scary. But applying this logic of "we didn't see them die so we can bring them back in a sequel" is laughable. If those characters are alive in the game, it's just completely over-the-top.

Realistically, we can probably assume the aliens would've taken Hudson and Burke back to where the hive was if they're alive (Burke is even shown cocooned in a deleted scene), but that all blows up moments later.

Not to mention that for Burke to have survived Aliens, he would have had to have had a steel plate in his head and something more menacing than his corporate fists and steel-toed boots.

If I'm not mistaken they have shown keypad panel bypassing mechanic for the first time ever, it's a shame the texture quality was beyond shitty, on par with AVP2 from 2002!

The only thing that changes in all these interviews is the Randy's shirts. Everything else is exactly the same.

Actually they had that in the AVP '10 campaign once or twice; but it was pretty much just plug in the Bypass unit, defend the area from a swarm of xenos for a minute or two, then disconnect it and move on through the doorway... :-\

I was going to post a picture of 'Operation' then as a sort of update but I thought, maybe not  ::).

So seriously now; is that the current version of the minigame, or an American joke I'm unaware of?  (No there was no hidden meaning in that, I'm not being sarcastic, I am actually wondering is it genuine as I'm surprised they just revealed that on its own, or at all for that matter!)

How did you get the screenshot, by the way?

Yeah the pounce seems to act like the Hunter from L4D, so if you blast the alien off, whoever got pounced is good.

Meh, at least it's included in the game.  At this point I'm just holding on for dear life.
