Title: Point Defense, New Aliens: Fireteam Elite Game-Mode, Drops As Part of Season 2 Update!
Post by: Corporal Hicks on Nov 30, 2021, 06:10:17 PM

As 2021 draws to an end, Cold Iron Studios is dropping Season 2 of Aliens: Fireteam Elite on December 14th. Season 1’s major content was the Phalanx-class. For Season 2, it’s a new game-mode called Point Defense, dropping December 14th!

This fast-paced alternative to Horde Mode will challenge players in a new survival-based defensive match where your fireteam must protect, repair, and hold 3 different strategic points through multiple attack waves from the xenomorph hive. Players may buy temporary consumables to even the odds by utilizing Fabrication Points earned during the mode and can unlock up to 20 new rewards by completing the mode at various difficulties.

Point Defense, New Aliens: Fireteam Elite Game-Mode, Drops As Part of Season 2 Update!

As with the Season 1 update in September, Season 2 also comes with new challenge cards, and new weapons – just in from Hypderdyne! – attachments, and cosmetics – including a very festive Santa hat – that are unlockable from either the store, or as Point Defense rewards. A new Lifetime Stats feature will also be included in the new free content update.

Point Defense, New Aliens: Fireteam Elite Game-Mode, Drops As Part of Season 2 Update!

In addition to the free content upgrade, the second part of the Endeavour Pass will also be available alongside the Season 2 update. The Endeavour Pass is a paid-for Season Pass that includes cosmetic items. Season One’s Wey-Yu Armoury was (obviously) largely Weyland-Yutani inspired, introducing an Alien Dog Catcher/Commando-like outfit. Season 2 takes us back to Alien with The Nostromo Salvage Pack!

Emerging from a 57-year hypersleep, this pack includes over 20 exclusive items, including two Nostromo-themed class kit skin designs, eight weapon colors, four decals, four head accessories, four emotes, and more!

The Nostromo Salvage Pack is also available for purchase separate from the Endeavour Pass – as is the Wey-Yu Armoury – for $9.99. The Season 2 update is currently scheduled to release on December 14th.

In addition to Season 1 and 2, a further 2 Seasons are expected in the second and third quarters of 2022. Season 3 will bring in another new class and Season 4 another mode. Both will also introduce new features, new weapons, perks, attachments, cosmetics and challenge modes.

Point Defense, New Aliens: Fireteam Elite Game-Mode, Drops As Part of Season 2 Update!

And for those PC and Xbox gamers who haven’t tried the game yet, Aliens: Fireteam Elite will also be available on Game Pass on the 14th when the new Season drops!

Coming December 14, alongside the new Season 2: Point Defense update, the standard edition of Aliens: Fireteam Elite will be available with Xbox Game Pass on both Xbox and Windows 10! This also means cross play will be available between all Xbox and PC players who install via the Microsoft Store version of the game.

We’re still awaiting official announcement about any new story content, however during the October Q&A with Cold Iron’s developers the possibility was teased when asked about inclusion of Colonial Marine vehicles in future content.

Those vehicle moments were great in the Aliens film, it's in my mind when thinking about future campaign missions.

Make sure to keep a close eye on Alien vs. Predator Galaxy for the latest intel on Aliens: Fireteam! You can follow us on FacebookTwitter, Instagram and YouTube to get the latest on your social media walls. You can also join in with fellow Alien and Predator fans on our forums!

Update 02/12/21 – Cold Iron Studios has updated the official Aliens: Fireteam Elite website announcing Season 2 with some more specific details on what’s in store for us with the upcoming update, and details of the new Hyperdyne weaponry!

"We’re seeing an increase in xeno activity at the LV-895 ruins. Swarms are drawn by three Engineer devices. When they activate, xenos attack them. We believe those Engineer “Objects” stabilize the ground beneath the ruins. The moon is now entering a period of geologic instability – if we don’t keep them running, the ruins will collapse." – Cpl Savane

Challenge your Fireteam with a new survival-based defensive game mode where you must protect, repair, and hold 3 strategic points through attack waves from the xenomorph threat. Use Fabrication Points earned during each wave to buy temporary Consumables and help your team survive the next attack. As you succeed at various difficulty levels, you'll unlock all 13 new attachments, the "Come at me" "Noodle Arms" and "Cower" emotes, the ferocious Dragon decal in all 3 colors (Vermillion, Azure, and White), and the spine-chilling Exoskeletal Laminate colorway.

Point Defense, New Aliens: Fireteam Elite Game-Mode, Drops As Part of Season 2 Update!

  • Rifle: EVI-87 Zvezda Plasma Rifle – While still considered experimental outside the UPP, Hyperdyne has eagerly pushed export sales to corner a new market early. The fastest firing Automatic Rifle on the market currently, the plasma rounds provide great accuracy and minimal recoil, albeit with lower stopping power, especially at range.
  • Heavy: Microburst – While “small area” RPGs and grenades have become common in modern weaponry, Hyperdyne has pushed further into a rapid fire, very condensed explosive, allowing users to blanket an area with powerful anti-personnel explosions with minimal collateral damage.
  • CQW: PPZ-49 Vol – The Vol features a closed-bolt and uses a gasless system, providing more accurate grouping in sustained fire. Coupled with the large magazine, the PPZ-49 edges close to Automatic Rifle territory while still being compact.
  • Hand Gun: Frontier Revolver – When Hyperdyne decided to make a gun designed for explorers and miners, they went with a more traditional revolver format that was easier to maintain. The massive punch more than made up for the kick and single chamber reload, making these very common in the outer rim.

Cold Iron will also be hosting another Q&A session on their Discord on the 3rd of December at 12pm PDT!

Here it is!

With the next drop not until April / May/ June, this is the make or break content that needs to repair & sustain a playerbase. This alternative to Horde Mode survival-based defensive match.

Fingers and toes crossed that it's super good! 🤞

I feel like this is definitely coming at a time when this game needs it! I love me some Fireteam but truthfully I've not been on it for about a month now - definitely excited to try out the new game mode!

The Microsoft Store? People buy games on there? OMG, well I guess if they are so inclined they should be able to match make with Xbox users.
But that buggers me since they are leaving Steam users in the dust.

Looking forward to this "Lifeteam Stats" thing. and from what I can assume from the screenshot, looks like the Point Defense game mode is taking place outside!

Also take a look at the roadmap screenshot, that is some narly engineer thing with glowing stuff!

The Microsoft Store isn't too big for PC digital game purchases but Xbox Game Pass is getting larger on PC and that's where the installs are sourced from.

First type of cross-play of any kind we've seen with the game, so hopefully they'll eventually implement it across all platforms.

Update looks good, fortification defense should make things more interesting. And more cosmetics and emotes are always fun.

I imagine the next update will be in April and they'll ride the Alien Day hype.

If it's just one map like in Horde Mode it'll be an easy pass.

They're using UE4, which means as a dev team, they should be able to churn them out at about 1 per month with team members developing multiple maps at varying stages of completion ranging from whitebox testing to release candidate ready.

As a dev team MadMind turned out a 20 hour game in two and half years with four times the environmental assets. As a dev team ColdIron used 50 to turn out six hours of content in almost 5 years.

I converted ACM's assets and build an "Operations" map in Killing Floor 2 in a weeks time...

Quote"Matz - Cold Iron — Yesterday at 10:45 PM
i appreciate you wanting more, and wish we could provide content at a very fast pace. it's not realistic, though. while our game is doing very well for what we did and our team size, we aren't a live service game. we don't have anywhere near the team size to put out content at that speed, let alone get through IP approvals."

I'm not buying it... 50 people studio should be able to do much more then this.

Gamepass is the reason Deathloop and Back 4 Blood turned a profit at all and unless you're using a very "specific" version of windows, it's built right into the OS. Larger than you're assuming it is.

The more salient issue is this is splitting the PC playerbase, which is already down to 250 active accounts a day.

Albeit more generic in design, these artifacts are somewhat similar to the Engineers terraforming engines of the early stage of development of Prometheus.

IMHO, there seems to be less engineer involvement asides from some conceptual texturing. There are no structures in those paintings but I imagine there would need to be at some point. Maybe these were entirely WIP for prometheus. Or maybe these paintings are of things that were left behind after the structures were removed.

EDIT: There is now some shit going on! :O

Sorry about that, it took me a while to post all the images.

I just find them similar. In Jon Spaihts's script, a Weyland's team tries to steal the terraforming devices that the Engineers designed to make the air inside the pyramid breathable.

Weird. The more i hear about John Spaights script i think about the recent Alien Comic thats based off of the original script. Strangely it shouldnt have ventured into Prometheus territory, but it  feels like it did. I wonder if Darkhorse (Disney now) might do an extended Prometheus comic series based off of elements of the original script. I'm not sure if I'll like it but a different take is a different take.

Yeah... I'm going to reserve judgment until I can try it out... but let's just say I am concerned at the moment that this will be enough to repair and sustain the playerbase until April/May/June.

Because Cold Iron probably doesn't even know how to program it into the game. Maybe they had it at some point, but removed it because it was all getting too hard.

Regardless if folks are excited or disappointed about this new batch of content, this sort of flippant attitude on a smaller developer isn't helpful.

Underbarrel grenade launcher and flame unit has been seen in the datamines if you head on over to that thread. If I had to guess, they probably didn't want people exclusively using the pulse rifle at the expense of becoming acquainted with the host of other AR types. I personally like the modular design of the pulse rifle, and if you notice, most of the ARs in the game have an under rail system. Don't think they would put that there if they were not planning on eventually adding that extra attachment slot. There is a legitimate question though if this extra attachment slot is planned as to why it wasn't included at launch.

I've edited the replies for you but I doesn't change my opinion on the matter. I doubt we will see nadelaunchers on the pulse rifles or any attachements. Proc. maps were also datamined but this update kinda speaks for itself and the future of the game.

Besides the dataming some also viewed the code of the game, and the feedback was not positive.

I personally also think a 50 people studio is big enough to churn out a few basic Horde maps in 3 months time. I recreated Operations in a week for KF2. And that's including converting ACM's assets to the KF2 map builder.

(https://steamuserimages-a.akamaihd.net/ugc/89351354847839224/596DE688373446CAD1B3AB484270698C6B245F7C/?imw=637&imh=358&ima=fit&impolicy=Letterbox&imcolor=%23000000&letterbox=true)

It could just be they are moving resources to the next game and doing minimal work on AFE.

They can still prove me wrong and I really hope they do.  :)

They did specify in the most recent Q&A that their entire team is still on Aliens: Fireteam Elite.

I'd definitely like to see some of Pala station with some heavy Hadley's Hope influence like you've got pictured there.

I do agree there absolutely needs to be more Horde maps.

BTW I played your KF1 mod back in the day and quite enjoyed it. You're working on one for the second game?

Unfortunately KF2 made it a bit hard modding zeds. And I don't have 50 people haha, srry bad joke.
I still have a unfinished Aliens V2 mod for KF1, but yeah... life.

Maybe that's CI's thing atm, life. And I can't hold that against them. I had to quit modding as it was eating my time with the fam. Games are games in the end. Have some fun with it and move on.

When xenos attack the machine, it bleeds red. Very sloppy, the same happens wit the synths. From this it sounds like they want to do crossplay, but they don't have the time or knowledge how to do that yet... One map, the mode seems extremely boring and simple in terms of mechanics, it'll get old fast. ACMs bug hunt maps and turrets were much cooler to play with.

I'm afraid this update will disappoint me, but I'll give it a chance. Wish the game all the best, but it needs crossplay to stay alive, more horde mode and point defense maps, more campaign missions or even pvp multiplayer. As of now, all these extras just aren't cutting it. Nobody really cares about the guns as much as the other things. Wish we get underbarrel grenade launchers for the Pulse Rifle and a revamp on the Demo's stats. These updates just aren't exciting and they're being too secretive and vague about what they're working on, beats me why they're trying so hard to hide it.... While they get to all the more important stuff, the whole player base will be dramatically reduced.

I like how they were transparent with their process in their interview in terms of how they developed weapons and xeno types.
Glad they are putting this out and i'm sure we will have plenty of good fun to explore it. I'm not a dead beat so gaming isn't an 8hour discovery plan- not anymore anyways.
The atmosphere in the game is still plenty and very cool to get engrossed.
I'm still waiting for multiple loadouts so that we can create our own player looks for each...but whatever.

Lastly still waiting for an epic engineer battle or some sort and the debate about whether or not the grenade launcher should be included in the pulse rifle well, still I think that is the little child talking, but to me, this little detail is laughable.
Develop a clear weapons system and then talk adding small stuff like that because 'its movie accurate' and you will realize how little you know about anything.

Yeah, doesn't look too good. Tbh at this point I barely recognise the franchise in this game haha. It's very generic. Thats one of the things ACM nailed imo. The blue hue Carmeron shot the movie in was ever present in the game. I realy liked that. This leans more towards Prometheus and Covenant atm. Which is fine, just not very Aliens.

The gametype itself is very boring imo. But then again the Horde mode wasn't anything to write home about either.

Shame crossplay between windows and steam isn't implemented. We could use the gamepass peeps joining steam games.

The new mode is boring, simple as. It also doesn't even fit the design motif for the game, which was supposedly "stick together and overlap complementary weapons and skills which is 100% necessary after normal difficulty."

Also new attachment drops don't work and they cut FPS pretty much in half. Also their mod CRC check not only doesn't work with one simple change to one file, they literally just 86'd the entire active PC userbase.

Kind of astounding how this much incompetence and active disdain for the playerbase can be concentrated in one title.

I wish (and I've asked them many times) to add local co-op to this game.  Not everyone in the world has access to high quality internet.  I have great internet but this game crashes after every completed mission 95% of the time when I am playing with people online.  For that reason alone (the lack of reliability) we should have local co-op so there's always a fun way to play and people without internet can have fun with family and friends.

I enjoy the new mode. I like that it goes by quick. Good way to get some fast xp and credits.

Love the new rifle. Feels great and purple is my favorite color.

It's just been difficult to match with players on PlayStation... and I can see why. As soon as I level these new guns, I'll lose interest until season 3.

I played the new mode last night for the first time and I was impressed, enjoyed it. Didn't look that great from the initial footage but playing it was more fun. Is it only three rounds though? I figured you'd be able to keep continuing or choose to evac like in Horde.

The place you rendezvous for evacuation at the end is odd.

I'd have appreciated needing to run back outside to the dropship instead of gathering for pickup in the middle of the ruins.

Yeah only 3 waves. That disapointed me

Anyone know if different difficulty levels make doubling the repair makes it go faster?
I swore I played it once (maybe on casual lvl) and it was repairing faster when two people are on it, but on Standard difficulty it most certainly doesn't go faster.

I like the game mode. It does serve as a much quicker match for Horde mode. Since the hive allows you to continue past a first 10 rounds its most definitely the longer of the two.

The way to the dropship collapses so we can't get back out that way.

I don't think it even lets two people repair at once. If someone else is already working on it, the button prompt seems slightly darker - like it's grayed out.

I'd have been happier if they'd animated the dropship taking off in the beginning and returning at the end.

It's a nitpick and not a big deal. But to employ the shoddy rock collapse animation and have us meet under a ceiling at the end is obviously cutting a corner... a corner that doesn't seem terribly big.

OK thats what I thought.
So people ARE mistakenly thinking that two is better than one. The Restart is faster (this is probably where people thought doubling up works and I had players message me that it does).
Goddamn it. These instructables should be more clearer.

They should at least include a tips message on the Endeavor menu page before the game launches.
