...I always thought the movie kicked up a natch when Busey popped in. Added another layer to the mythos, because OF COURSE the U.S. Government knew about the Predators.

I was really looking forward to something similar in "The Predator" (2018), but unfortunately that movie played it like a parody.

Of course the Government knew about it!  Why did Keyes get a Government job?  Honestly I enjoyed both of these elements in P2,  Busey is epic 90's and so were Government conspiracies.

There's a part in the podcast where you say that the smart disc is just thrown and caught skillfully. That however is incorrect. It clearly returns to the City Hunter from the same direction it was thrown to. While not explained it is right in assuming that, at least with the smart disc, it comes back to the predator via some tracking tech. The throwing stars or whatever they are in AvP probably are more like boomerangs like you suggested. I don't care for them as they aren't practical in any way they just are there to look cool and be an "upgrade" to the disc.

Seems like a natural law that every new director will put a personal spin on any franchise. There will be new weapons, updated appearance of the title creatures, a different look to tech, new wrinkles in the lore, etc. It's the way of things.

I can see some benefit to the shuriken seeing as how the AVP Predators and Fugitive could carry multiple shuriken. They're easy to store and seemingly not as techy as some other technologies so if one got embedded in a wall somewhere it might not be as big a deal. We can also see they can be caught by them just as easily so the tech might not be strictly needed. The smart disk also seemingly has its own carrying case on the thigh so presumably if they needed more they might not be able to have as many due to the casing.

Yeah, the ending to Pred 2 is very memorable. So much lore was illustrated in that ending.

So true, it established the Predator and Xenomorph are in the same universe.

It showed more than one Predator, that they arn't loners, and there is hierarchy.

The film proved they have been hunting us as far back as the late 18th century.

EDIT:

Loved the podcast!

Some thoughts, I was thinking the Smart disc actually hooms on a target like a heatseeker, perhaps infared? I also have read the wrist gauntlet controls it.

I felt totally opposite about the detective angle. It made is suspenseful that we the audience know what is happening but the characters are in the dark, like Aliens. I actually found City Hunter more terrifying, even in opening when he strings uo a kill and Danny is like "you couldn't carry that guy up there," gave me chills. To me the suspense was heightened by the investigation, that slowly Harrigan is learning more about this Hunter. I also found City Hunter hunting methods way more psychologically unnerving, that he gets in close and cute you to pieces.
