Hi all,

looking for the fabled 139  minute fan edit of Alien. Impossible to find online; it seems that Fox has thoroughly scrubbed this off the web. If you have this and you are in a position to upload to Dropbox or some such, please PM me. I AM WILLING TO PAY because I NEED this!!!

Many thanks.

Darkness

I have it as a file but I don't have the original ISO files anymore.

Corporal Hicks

Ha. Funny you post this now. I just started watching this last night.

If I remember I'll rip the iso tonight.

Any chance you could put it up on Dropbox or Google Drive or some such? Again, willing to pay!

I saw your tweet about it, which reminded me that still haven't seen it and that's driving me nuts. Could you please put it up on Dropbox or Google Drive?

Corporal Hicks

I'll send you a link later. Am still at work. We wont be needing any pennies.

krikke

Aaron, thank you! Looking forward...

Corporal Hicks

I'm ripping it now.

Ok, I feel stupid..... What's this about? I mean, I know what a workprint is, but why is this one so special?

krikke

To the best of my knowledge, this is a fan edit from 2006 or so, with all known deleted scenes and extended bits (from various DVD sets) added back in. These additional scenes add up to around 24 minutes or thereabouts of footage.

I have seen this movie so many times that I expect every additional second of footage to stick out like a sore thumb. I'm just really curious to finally see all this additional material in the right order and context...

Someone should do a high definition version of this.

Corporal Hicks

SiL did a breakdown of it some years ago: http://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/index.php?topic=14410.0

I didn't know this existed. I'd be interested to see it too.

PM sent.

Can I be a bit pedantic and say that people should stop calling these "work prints"? A work-in-progress edit is a "rough cut".

A work print is merely a viewable print of the raw camera footage. The editor used it to build a "cutting copy", the first version of which was often called an "assembly", and subsequent refinements were known as "rough cuts", eventually becoming "fine cuts", and finishing as the "locked off" cutting copy, which is the final version everyone who has a say signs off on.

If anyone told me they were going to screen me a work print, I would expect to see shots out of order, camera start/stop flash frames, repetitive take after take, many of them NG ("No Good"), slate boards, the gaffer accidentally caught in frame squatting in the dark with his ass crack hanging out, etc, etc.

A-fecking-men!

Everyone calling their fan edits "work prints" gives me the screaming shits something chronic.
