This is some very sad news. Special effects artist Stan Winston passed away on Sunday, June 15th in Los Angeles, California. He was 62 years old. Stan has, of course, worked on some iconic movies in his career such as Terminator and Jurassic Park and has created some of the most memorable special effects in cinematic history.
He is best remembered in this community for his work in Aliens for creating the Queen Alien which he won an Oscar for, and for creating the Predator in both Predator movies. He most recently worked on Terminator 4 and would have been involved with Jurassic Park 4 too. This news is completely unexpected. He will be sadly missed. R.I.P. Stan Winston.

I think his greatest creation/design was 'Predator'. Terminator and Aliens were designed by others [Cameron & Giger]. And of course knows wat a T-Rex looked like.

Stan Winston died on June 15, 2008, at his home in Malibu, California after suffering for seven years with multiple myeloma.[1] A spokeswoman reported that "Stan died peacefully at home surrounded by family."[2] It is not known if his work on Terminator 4 was completed before his death. April 7, 1946 was a day that ushered in the beginning of a very golden age in artistic, technical, as well as visual history. I'll never forget watching ALIENS in the theaters over twenty years ago, bewildered by what i had seen before me, captivated and mortified by the sheer magnificence of the Alien Queen's impossible aesthetic.. I was not even old enough to understand what i had been watching, but that image, that amazing visual force has been ingrained into my very being from that moment forth, and since then ALIENS has been my favorite movie of absolutely ALL TIME. This was his gift to his fans: The ability to change lives through moving pictures. His life is not just his anymore. His life belongs to his family, friends and all of his adoring fans, some of whom, are very unsure to what degree of loss they should feel... Friends, I say this from the bottom of my heart. It's alright to feel this pain, but never consider it a loss. We have been given the gift of his work, and will never forget his genius. He was so much more than just a behind the scenes guy.. he was a hero, an inspiration, and though some of us may not have met him.. a friend to so many. Rest in peace, Stan. No Famous person in my life time had an effect on me as Stan Winstons death. Im into the arts and I just think Stan Winston is the most creative person I ever seen with an eye of detail and creativity. Every movie he worked on made the movie so much more believable and realistic. No one else can match that and its absolutely proven with the sequels he didn't work on. Sci-fi movies will never be the same. RIP Stan Winston, you will be missed.

Some people are just recovering from the loss of Heath Ledger. Like Gladiator had for Oliver Stone, what they will have in Dark Knight for Heath Ledger, Terminator 4 will have.. IN MEMORY OF STAN WINSTON I bet just like the whole audenice will surly give around of applause for Heath Ledger's performance when that "In Memory of...." appears in Dark Knight, the audience of TERMINATOR 4 will do the same for Stan Winston.

I recently bought the book "The Winston Effect" and it's amazing. Stan really did give us alot to remember him by. I'm a total amatuer in creature effects. But Stan Winston I can say, is the person we all looked up to and idolized. We could only dream to do what he has done for us all already. :( :o ??? I LOVE HIS WORK! I'm very sad...I wonder how Jurassic Park 4 and Aliens 5 will look without him? His creativness in Jurassic Park made it look like a movie from the future. :'(

:'( R.I.P Stan Winston... your special effects were always the most amazing, and when I was a child and loved the Jurassic Park movies, the T-Rex in the first movie was my favorite, and the preds in 1 and 2 and the queen in aliens were jaw dropping... It is so sad to hear of such news. Stan Winston, u were THE best and always will be special effects person ever, and always made the movie monsters come to life.

That's a very sad news to all of us fans to hear that the Special Effects designer of many known movies had died. But still, even though Stan Winston died, he will be remembered for all that he have done. :(
