Is there proof that there were deleted scenes from Predator 2 that were actually filmed or not. There is some floating around but is it fact or not.

1) Someone in Australia said they saw a uncut version were you see the cloacked predator kill the armed columbians in the beginning.
2) Predator follows Harrigan in the taxidermist shop
3) More shots at night of predator leaping across the roof tops
4) Keyes men killings were shown more

Is this just speculation or were these scenes actually filmed? The film was cut over 20 times so sure there has to be missing footage somewhere. I hope we get to see this Nc-17 cut one day. I wonder if the footage is lost or its in the Fox vault somewhere.

Yes, like any Hollywood big budget movie there are deleted scenes. Proof can be found in documentaries and stills taken during production like Danny's funeral for instance.

The way I know it, and I'm one of the biggest Predator 2 fans there is, there was no NC-17 cut. There was no 20 cuts. There was only one working cut or edit, but three versions of that cut.

Production for Predator 2 started February 1990. Director Stephen Hopkins was expecting a Spring 1991 release but Fox moved it up to a November 1990 which gave him an incredibly small amount of time to finish the movie.

Because of that ridiculous small amount of time, Hopkins said pubically that it was his first working cut that premiered. But optical effects were added 3 times between batches of film prints. So technically, depending where you lived, the optical special effects could have been better, more robust, or less.

So Predator 2 had one cut, the first working cut, but three versions. Maybe, technically, that's three cuts.

Now Hopkins said if he had more time he would have changed things. Considering all that, it was amazing how great Predator 2 turned out! I wouldn't change a thing!  ;D

I'm fairly certain there was an NC-17 cut. The MPAA ruled it NC-17 for graphic violence and it had to be toned down for an R rated release. Some of the deleted scenes which have been made available support that, including the extended scene with the Jamaican gang member who gets cut by the net.

Im certain studios have and had editing advisors that are familiar with MPAA guidelines that Hopkins had to take advisement from, but Hopkins didn't have the time to push the envelope. Often gore is filmed, then internally trimmed in the editing room way before it gets to the MPAA.

And I'm recounting a post release interview I'm quite familiar with.

Interesting.

Has any of the cut footage ever been seen by anyone? There's been rumours for years of really gory stuff being cut which seems believable considering some of the edits in the movie; King Willie's decapitation for one.

Regarding King Willie's decapatation, all the script drafts I've seen is just like the stylized version we get on screen. The camera pushes in on his face, then pulls out to reveal a decapitated head held by the Predator. There is just a bit more filmed of the cleaning of Willie's head we didn't see.

To be honest, I think assumptions of this nature have formed the urban legend, bloody hellish, nc-17 cut.  :)

Whiskeybrewer

Gotta love Urban Legends about what was cut or not. Shame there were little bits missing that we actually know about

and typical of the studio playing about with the release date

Yeah, studio executive meddling. Some things never change I guess. :-\

But we've all seen gore trimmed from both Alien and Predator films. Though missing scenes I believe should most likely start with the script, right?  And if you read a scene that wasn't in the finished product, then we can naturally inquire... was this scene filmed?

But this sword fight rumored scene between the Predator and King Willie I have never seen in the script drafts. In the script I've only seen the gimmick Hey look! King Wille is screaming! Omigosh it's not Willie, it's just Willie's head in the Predator's hand as the Predator pulls away! And a gimmick like that doesn't work if you film a fight in between.

Since the trick works for the screen though, I wonder if they fleshed out the fight in the novelization and that is what spurred the rumor? I'll try to remember to check the book tonight. :)

I read a bit of a draft of Predator 2 last night and it cuts from a close up of King Willie's face to a close up a skinned version of King Willie's face with the eyes intact and his mouth open in a scream.

Yep. They later dropped the "stripped of flesh" in a newer draft, but both present the same basic "GO IN TIGHT on Willie's terrified eyes" to a dead Willie effect and there's no on-screen fight or decapition in play. That's what I was trying to convey. :)

The novelization:

I saw predator 2 when I was very young and thought I'd seen the Colombians being killed

Whiskeybrewer

It was probably one of those, seeing the aftermath, you put it all together in you head things. I did it the first time i saw it too

I am not interested so much in a Nc-17 cut but this does get me wondering what other footage was filmed that never made it into the film and what happened to these other scenes. As some have mentioned some scenes were too violent or gory but sometimes directors remove scenes because they mess with the pacing of a film. Sometimes I am guessing they film random shots of things like streets, people walking, daytime shots, night time shots, shots in the rain, sunny or cloudy days, etc the idea is that they have lots of stock footage that they intersplice into the film. I am guessing once the film is complete these extra scenes are no longer needed and since some of them have no direct ties to the film, my guess is that the company just ends up selling this footage as stock footage. Maybe one day these scenes will come to light and I can imagine people will "remix" or recut these films to create something fresh from old material that makes you look at an old film from a new perspective. Heck, if you look at Once Upon a Deadpool, this is exactly the gimmick used by 20th Century Fox of all people to tone down the violence. I supppse one day an MC-17 version can be made of Predator 2 if that answers the question.

Yeah, I don't think film studios sell unused footage. The film reels go into storage and are never seen again unless they're unearthed for possible director cuts or historical documentary projects.

I also don't believe there will ever be a new cut. There's no real demand for it that I can see. The people who really love Predator 2 really love it as is, and the people who hate it I don't believe are saying - you know what it needs? More gore!  :)

Releasing deleted scenes in a new home video supplementals package would be nice for the fans though, like Anna's cut debriefing and meeting Leona's husband scenes. And Predator 2 does have its 30th Anniversary coming next year! *hint, hint Disnox*
