RS: Yeah, so there you have that. I was always amazed that, I mean, I've only done two science-fictions, but I was always amazed that no one asked who the hell the Space Jockey was. He wasn't even called the Space Jockey. During the film they started to call it the Space Jockey. I don't know who started that one off. I always thought it was amazing that no one ever asked who he was, and why was he there? What was all that about? I sat thinking about this for a while and thought, well, there's a story! And the other four [films] missed it! So, here it is.[/i]

Clearly, he didn't read Aliens Original Sin.

My thinking, here, is that Sir Ridley was speaking to "John Q. Public" and the unwashed masses  ;D

I suspect he knew that it was one of the most discussed and debated issue within "fandom".

But, of course, I could be wrong.

Interesting, I dare say that this takes places before Weyland merges with Yutani? This movie must explain why the future W-Y company is so intent on getting the Alien because this is how they must of supposedly learned of the xenos.  Peter Weyland could be the ancestor to Charles Bishop?

No, the other way around.

This is from back when it was an ALIEN PREQUEL. A lot of the plot and themes have obviously changed

MTV: Since this is a prequel, will you need to make the ships more primitive-looking than in "Alien"?

Scott: It's set in 2085, about 30 years before Sigourney [Weaver's character Ellen Ripley]. It's fundamentally about going out to find out 'Who the hell was that Space Jockey?'

MTV: And is the Weyland-Yutani company in existence at this point?

Scott: It's Weyland. Weyland hasn't joined Yutani yet, so they go and see Weyland. [The film] is about the discussion of terraforming — taking planets and planetoids and balls of earth and trying to terraform, seed them with the possibilities of future life.

Well, this seems to have stuck.

I wonder who has more power in the company; Peter Weyland or Karl Bishop Weyland?

It's gonna be crazy when at the end Guy Pearce pulls off his mask and he's actually a XENOMORPH. Ridley mentions that in the interview too.

Ridley wouldn't even know who Karl Bishop Weyland was.

RICH-ENGLAND

so now that guy has been confirmed as weyland, do we think this also confirms the rumoured scene of weyland and david on a yacht/boat at the beginning and david being weylands butler?.

thanks

Peter Weyland would come before Charles B since this movie takes place 30 years before Alien(which Bishop appears in). Bishop is likely the nephew or cousin of Peter Weyland.

It's Charles Bishop Weyland in Alien vs Predator
It's Peter Weyland in Prometheus
It's Bishop the Synthetic Person in Aliens (and also Alien3)
It's Michael Bishop At the end of Alien3
It's Rook, the Synthetic Person in Aliens: Colonial Marines
It's Karl Bishop Weyland in Aliens vs Predator (the 2010 video game)
