It is possible, too, that they may be out of your reach depending on where the marine is taken and how far you are into the game.

When I got rid of some marines in my second playthrough, one was taken to a place I couldn't access because the door was blocked.

Does the game tell you where you can go to rescue captured Marines? I had one get captured and I couldn't tell where I was supposed to go to rescue him, and I ended up rushing to one of the story-progression objective dots on the map instead so he got left behind when the game advanced to Phobos. Whoops!

I don't know if this character info is spoiler, so just in case.

Spoiler
She is an asian girl who is very much into tech. Her idle animation is to sit down on her knees and text. She has a purple power button painted onto her armor as well as a panda hanging near her shoulder.

On Phobos she is between a maintenance tunnel and a pile of rubble. You have to go down some and then eventually enter a tunnel over on the left. You then make your way up to her location.

I remember Singh and Kim, don't think I remember Chau though.

Okay.

#10 - Last name 'Singh' - He was somewhere on LV-426.

#16 - Last name 'Chau' - She is on Phobos. You had to use some maintenance tunnels to get to her because she is otherwise blocked.

#19 - Last name 'Kim' - He is pretty much impossible to miss. He is on the Sulaco, and also the last marine you can recruit. Don't worry about missing him and just keep going. I really don't see any way you can miss him unless you are rushing. You should also remember him as the one who brought the company man to you previously.

When you numbered them, did you skip Steele in the roster? As in is #19 the very last one in the roster or second to last?

Are they numbered 1-20 or 1-19?

I don't have marine #10, #16 and #19.

That could be the case.

If I know which ones you have, I could probably indicate what stage the missing ones are located in. I think I about know where everyone is now, if only by what stage they are on.

Though, if you missed them on either LV-426 or Phobos, you can't find them again until you start a new game. Those places are never revisited.

I didn't find 3 marines, yet I *think* I've been everywhere...Maybe I haven't been in some of the nests after I collected some item to get through some place that was unreachable before... ???

True - I did occasionally have trouble if they dropped in too close. Though, in that case I'd run backwards while I shot. Sometimes I'd get lucky and the door would shut, causing the Alien to stop to open it and get mowed down.

I found the smart gun a little slow to get moving, and an Alien could run in and attack before you had a chance to fire.  Cut shit up when it got going though.

I loved using the smart gun.

The flamethrower I liked better once I got it upgraded. Before that, it just didn't seem to kill most of them in time and they'd hit me with the tail strike.

The ape ones would just run into me whether or not they were being fried.

It was probably my favourite weapon in the later levels.  It can actually stop an Alien in it's tracks while you're frying it.  Smart gun was cool, but a bit slow.
