Interesting... I swear I read on this forum that
Spoiler
he plays a random scientist or some like that, I'm sure I even read his character's name, Simon whatever, but there was no Keyes
Spoiler
He says in the interview he is playing a scientist.
I know, but I guess he should be called Keyes in the script too, I don' understand why he is not...

Maybe in case the script was leaked they could use that as a surprise element for the movie when it comes out

Spoiler
Probably a mix of a surprise element and also maybe the character doesn't want to go by the Keyes last name because of what events within the universe that name is linked with.

That sounds legit

Or they just changed his name and added a sentence where he said his dad faced this creature before! :o

The script that leaked was 10 months old by the time they started filming and had likely been revised quite a few times since it was written.
Thanks for sharing ace3g. Will front-page this shortly.
This is better news than an Arnold cameo.

No shit, referencing to the events of Predator 2 this way is awesome. That probably was a spontaneous decision they did by casting Jake Busey, but that only shows a movie is never done before it's done.
As a fan of P2 i'm really loving this.
I am glad that there is a connection with P2.
Spoiler
So his character will be torn off his head and arm or not?
He kinda looks like Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age.
Nice to see some continuity with Pred 2 for a change. Such an underrated movie.
Yep, so stoked with this news and the link to the mythology is awesome. P2 always gets a bit of a beating when compared to Predator, almost like a poor cousin. But with this it really brings it into the mix properly - can't wait to see what Jake does with the material - this news has made my day!
Predator 2 getting the love
This made me sooooo happy!
A nice little surprise. I never expected anything to come of Predator 2.
Someone as impulsive and crazed as Keyes having a son he encouraged into the field of rationality and science.
Oh well. He flubbed the release date and said it would be a mad scramble to finish it by febuary 9th 2018
""He [Shane Black] called me and he said "hey, you wanna do this movie? We don't have money for you but it'll be a fun thing to come play and be your father's son."
They don't have the money.....but From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series did? He was on that show for more than a couple of episodes, right?
if he was not paid at all i would look at that as a free vacation
Private jet rides
Kraft food service
An assitant
Beautiful canada
Free place to sleep
And get's to play and have fun being an actor in a predator movie for three weeks hanging out with shane black
And he will have screen time putting his face up in what might be the biggest and best film he will ever star in
Leading to possibly landing other acting gigs as a direct result of having this role in "the predator"
It is a win win
I would like to see Peter's wife and indeed the whole family, but this is already for sequels.
Wow, that´s some awesome news! At some point I was tired of Arnold possible cameo. Finally Predator 2 is receiving some recognition as part of the official or canon story.
Great to see a lot of positive reactions regarding this news and to The Predator overall. I'm not being ironic, I really mean it, I think I never read so many positive comments in a row about this movie, it's cool !
Anyway, Jake Busey could not have played anyone else, I mean he looks almost exactly like his father.
Glad to see that Predator 2 is still in continuity. Hated back when during Predators , Rodriguez said that 2 is no longer canon. And happy for Jake Busey being in the movie. Now only if Danny Glover can make a cameo.
Good news. Glad there's that connection to Predator 2.
Given the circumstances, you can bet on the appearance of Danny Glover. If they came up with the son of Keyes, then Glover's participation does not seem so fantastic.
I really like Predator 2 as well....I liked the City Hunter and Glover's character
I'm genuinely happy that Jake is playing the son of his father's character.
I've always liked Jake Busey even when he was only in minor roles.
So, 10 or 11 years after Paxton and Baldwin dodging Requiem, we're getting a Predator 2 legacy character after all.
The OWLF stuff is a great thread for the franchise.
Full circle, baby.
Baldwin is probably the most forgettable character in Predator 2.
We probably only play Garber any attention because it is Adam Baldwin. I'm curious to see if they connect even further with OWLF.
That's awesome they are connecting the Keyes family. Be amusing if Augusto Aguilars character was the Unborn child in P2
Nice to see P2 getting some recognition. A deeply misunderstood film. It added so much to the Pred lore that is now just taken for granted.
This is really great news. I've been thinking since there were so many loose ends with P2 we might be seeing quite a bit of the aftermath of that movie.
I knew it. He looks way too much like his old man to be cast as some random character in this series. I like that he's playing a scientist, and not some crazed commando out to avenge his dad. I was worried there for awhile. This movie is actually starting to sound pretty exciting.
OK, good, there's lots of other fans of Predator 2. I won't say I liked it more than Arnold's, but it was so different from the first that I really have a fondness for it. The oversized suits and the constant sweating are, for some reason, my favorite parts (other than "F'n voodoo mah-jik, mon!")
The interview has been taken down.
It's strange that Jake did not know about the fact that it was supposed to be a surprise though too obvious for the fans.
Jake also did not know the release date of the film has been pushed back to August 3, 2018. He still thinks film is still coming out February 9, 2018. haha
Fox are being a bit weird with this movie. Between this and the set/crew pics that were all taken down. Do they actually not want anyone talking about this movie?
Fred Dekker posting a link to an article about it...
QuoteAs Ralph Kramden might say, Jake is "a blabbermouth!" Great guy, though. But since the cat's out of the bag, anyway...
They needed to pay him
;D

It seems like they learned in the past about giving away any information or pictures. Probably to keep fans guessing and speculating. It seems like if they release set pics or any pics, especially a trailer, the fans can sometimes figure out the plot and pick it apart.
I said back in mar 2008 that Jake Busey should play Peter Keyes son.
it came true 9 years later. i love the fact that they are not dismissing predator 2 it was a great movie,& leaps and bounds better than predators
I love this connection to Predator 2. It's taken about 30 years, but we're finally growing a rich, interconnecting Predator film universe. Give me this over constant reboots anyday.
Exclusive: Jake Busey Explains How He Ties Shane Black's 'The Predator' to 'Predator 2'

I'm glad we've got some good players in The Predator. Even if the plot ends up being all kinds of terrible with goofy additions, I'll always enjoy seeing Jane on screen, and Busey's character in Starship Troopers was one of it's highlights.
This has me grinning ear to ear ;D
well, to me some of the fun of the saga is that there is no "bigger picture", they just come here for fun, to hunt, we are nothing to them, just like human hunters and their prey, anyway when they put it like in the article sounds very interesting and like it could be a good movie, but Shane directing and the leaked script do not get my hipe up

I never watched (that I remember) the old Punishers but I recently went through The Expanse and absolutely loved him and it. The cast is definitely different and I'm keen to see how it all works out.

I honestly thought Jane would have been great in an AvP film. Especially when you see him doing the whole "survival" schtick in a movie like The Mist.
I find myself wondering if, with a definite connection to P2, if they'll get the timeline right, with the film taking place in 1997 instead of the year of release.
I'm not too confident with the timeline as Black seemed to think Predators took place off in the future since it was set on another planet. :-\
I was always thinking that Predators happened in the present time. I mean, judging by their clothes and weapons, Royce has an automatic shotgun, and rest of the team has the same stuff, nothing futuristic or Sci-Fi, just classic weapons from our time. I think it should goes Predator, Predator 2 and between them The Predator from Shane Black or Predators, it depends on a lot of things. . for example, we still dont know if Shane really use somehow the Bad Blood idea, because Berserker's team. . that was basically Bad Blood Predators. And judging by the short look into the sky that we see in Predators, well. . there was one bigger, partially destroyed planet and a lot of debris on the horizon, plus one smaller untouched planet on the side, at least from what I remember. We dont know nothing about these planets, the only thing that we know is, that the jungle planet was used as the hunting ground. Later in the movie we also see some kind of huge, mechanical rig where the whole team meets the Noland Character, and Im 100% sure that, this "rig" was not the Predators property, I think it was piece of some unknown technology, perhaps from the lost race that was once living on the planet, in the past. The whole interior of the object seems to be too different than anything that we see before, of course every movie show us a different Predator designs, yeah. But still, I have a strong feeling that it was not the Predator technology there, if I count the destroyed planet on the horizon, the strange mechanical thing on the jungle planet and the fact that inside, the Japanesse guy found the katana. . well, that should mean that the conflict between the classic and Bad Blood Predators is happening for a long, long time. . perhaps centuries, because the katana is old samurai's weapon. . and that also indicate that Bad Predators could manage their hunting game for a really long time in our history. I have even some ideas, like what about if Bad ones destroyed and decimated some kind of different race on the system, and after that they use their planet for own purpose. Who knows, but anyway. . thanks for reading this nasty long text,
That's great about Jake being in it. I love the Buseys. They are the ugly but lovable bulldogs of Hollywood and cool actors to boot. I hope Jake dies just as well as his dad did in P2.

How is it possible that someone here modified my own previous comment? Can someone explain this to me? Corporal Hicks or anyone?
Unfortunately when 2 guests post after each other it'll merge the posts.
Only if it's the same guest. It won't merge two different guest comments.
That is strange, I post just the long comment, not the smaller text bellow the line, but nothing serious happen here, so Im glad at least for your response.
Im proud of this site, keep up the good work guys. We need you.
Hmm, I'll look into that then. I assumed it was the same user whenever two guest comments are merged like that.
Edit: Damn, it does appear it does. Had no idea. I've disabled the merging of posts for guests.
The new interview sounds good to me. The whole - "It focuses on what the goal of the Predators is, and what their modus operandi, and why they come to the planet, and that type of thing." - does sound a lot like what Peter Keyes played by Gary Busey was talking about in Predator 2.
I am glad they are trying for something different. Even if I don't like it I respect the fact they are trying to take the franchise in new directions, instead of just repeating what has worked before.
I'm hopeful for this installment and excited too. The direction does sound interesting. :)
With the script being what it is...If nothing else I do hope for some much needed "tie-in's" to finally create a semi-consistent story with the predator universe.
Something cool would be Busey's character admitting to tracking preds from as far back to Predator-knowing Jim Hopper was going into an alien hot-spot, thus knowing Dutch's crew was too, etc....then his dad finally got permission to "capture" a Pred and died trying.
Nothing major, just little drops here and there would be cool.
