QuoteThe whole idea of all these aliens popping up out of nowhere when they were supposed to be out of sight, out of mind for decades prior to Ripley's return in Aliens was very iffy for me

We are aware of this and have it in hand.  ;)

Hm...

Another solid podcast guys! I'm hoping that "resistance" follows the trail of xenos back to their source.

Ultramorph

I hope so too. And I hope the trail goes back to a Juggernaut somewhere.

Indeed? Perhaps.
As the production designer on Prometheus said the SJ is the "holy cow" of Alien.
So it's a...  environment, that needs to be handled with extreme care.

Perfect-Organism

Crashed juggernauts sprinkled throughout the universe.  They were designed by the same engineers who designed the Ford Pinto.   ::)

To be fair it looks like the Juggernaut in Covenant was made to look like it crashed by David, it didn't necessarily.
The LV-223 Juggernaut was crashed by the impact and detonation of another vessel but remained entirely intact as far as we can tell.

Perfect-Organism

I have to say, from a designer's point of view, that the juggernaut's shape makes them look like they're sinking ships.  You know that moment when the Titanic lifted its rear end?  It is that sort of vibe.  There's an aura of negativity about them, especially since they've been called "derelict" for 33 years...

I never picked up on that, very true.

Internally the Juggernaut was mucked up but Shaw exited where Prometheus hit and it didn't even seem scorched. Internally the Dreadnaught didn't appear as damaged.  Nor the Derelict.

The Derelict, both in Isolation and Alien 1979 is moist, battered and overall seems... Derelict.
Like a scratched up vehicle, there's no way to know if the damage is functional or just weathering
but it gives the impression of an old abandoned haunted house that logically should crumble but... yet, doesn't.

You're probably right in that Prometheus' Juggernaut's interior is likely inoperable even if the exterior is seamless.
And I believe to a degree, the Covenant Juggernaut is part theatre on David's part - luring the Covenant certainly is.
Which makes me wonder if somehow David engineered events to attract a ship.

I always found the idea that David engineered the neutrino burst to be beyond stupid.  He can set off a stellar ignition from a different sector light years away - but can't fix a Dreadnaught and leave?

True.

I suppose what I should've said was, has he dressed the scene at all when he decided to send that transmission?

Perfect-Organism

What was the dreadnought again?   ???
