Ok last last comment...

Fox customer service came through, and I finally got to watch the new documentary. It was short, only about 30 minutes and 55 seconds, but I'd say it was worth it for a $10 purchase. It was really interesting to hear James Cameron talk about how inspired he was by the first film, and his creative process for coming up with the story for the sequel. The thing I thought was most interesting though was his explanation for why the smart guns had a harness. The harness itself was originally used for steady-cameras; it allowed a cameraman to run/sprint while holding these big bulky film cameras and still film steady (no shaky screens). He just simply attached a machine gun to it instead of a camera, and what he originally had in mind apparently was: it allowed a soldier to run and/or shoot these big bulky machine guns while still holding it steady and firing more accurately. Makes sense! :-)

I just got my copy

At first glance, the slip cover box it came in is fantastic! Good quality material and good artwork. The Blu Ray box itself is your typical case, with new art cover which we've all seen already.

The Blu Ray disc has no art on it, which I found curious. My previous 2 Blu Ray copies (one of which was in a box set) both have the same art on the disc. Makes me wonder if the disc itself will have a different menu screen or something, but I won't know till later. I can't pop it in to check out the actual movie just yet...

The physical extras, the art book and the cards, come in a nice package as well. The art book I don't think is the greatest item; it's nice but its got nothing in it you won't already find in the aliens/vs/predator panel to panel book. The cards are my favorite addition. They're larger than I expected and look fantastic! I don't think there's anything there I hadn't already seen on DVD/Blu Ray gallaries before, but it's nice having physical copies now...

And the new documentary is indeed an online streaming thing, and the digital copy is in deed ultraviolet. I don't like ultraviolet! And I am disappointed the new documentary isn't actually on disc. I'll watch the documentary and check out this copy of the movie a little later and post my thoughts on it.

Oh this is freakin bull sh!t

I just entered the code to watch the new documentary and it's telling me my code is invalid! I emailed fox customer service. Hopefully they'll give me a new code or something. So annoying! Again! Shoulda put it in disc!

Also, I caved and redeemed the digital copy on ultraviolet. I was hoping for the directors cut version, but no, it's the theatrical cut only... :-/

Last comment... Unless fox sends me a replacement code for the new documentary  >:(
The Blu Ray is the exact same copy as all previous Blu Ray editions/releases. My player actually recognized the disc when I first popped it in and immediately started where I left off last time I watched the movie.

And no, they didn't get rid of the grain. Same video quality (which I expected, and I'm ok with that).

I also noticed a small goof. On the back of the box it says this Blu Ray contains both the 1986 theatrical cut and the 1991 special edition.  In the first menu, when you pick which version you want to watch it says 1990 special edition... Odd. Never noticed that before...

Anyway, I'd say if you don't already have this movie on Blu Ray and don't have plans for one of the box sets, this is well worth the money. Otherwise, it's only worth it for the free digital copy if you use ultraviolet. If you can manage to find it really cheap, like $10 or less, it'd be worth it for the cards and the new snazzy case, and maybe the art book too if you don't already own "aliens/vs/predator panel to panel."

I'm still waiting on my copy to arrive. Last I checked they moved up the anticipated delivery date to the 17th (instead of the 19th or 20th).

Another video.

I know I'm not going to hear much new but I'm tempted to pick this up if the UK one comes with all the goodies too.

I wish this came with a re-print of newts tale. That would have been better, and more analogous to what was given with the alien 35th anniversary Blu Ray... :-/

How's that Dark Horse book?

The book is just a collection of some of the Dark Horse comic covers.

Btw, the concept art "cards" aren't printed on card stock. They're printed on a glossy photo paper. So they're a bit flimsy. They feel like photographs.

Really disappointed to hear that. Really does come across as quite a lazy effort.

Yea I'm starting to feel ripped off. I hope the other extras are worth the $10 I paid, although I suspect not...

Whilst we live in a connected world the whole idea of owning a boxset is to have content complete and at your disposal. Having to stream, download, etc content IMO is rather counter intuitive to owning the boxset in the first place - what's the effing point?

Stupid idea - really poor form and the deal breaker for me in purchasing this (despite that cool extra artwork).

Because that is really going to encourage people to buy a hard copy rather than download the content eh? What a cop-out.

Yup, here it is:

And it seems the codes expire December 2019.

The new bonus feature with James Cameron isn't even on the disc. It's a stream only and you have to use a code to watch it on FoxExtras.com.

That's a pain in the arse. The T2 bluray did the same thing with its new extras  >:(
