Universal Halloween Horror Nights, an event every October at Universal Studios Orlando, will have an Aliens vs Predator-themed horror maze this year.

I'm kinda surprised that Universal is going to have a something owned by FOX.

I'm not complaining, I just didn't expect it.

This one is gonna be intense, gang! The maze takes place within a Weyland - Yutani research facility dealing in bio-weapons..

Communication had been lost with the facility dealing in extra-terrestrial technologies, specifically Xenomorph.

Pieces of transmissions were received detailing that the facility had become compromised and another alien species called Yautja Predators..

Predators are hunting both the Xenomorphs and any human presence found...

Guests will have to navigate through the labyrinth of destruction as they struggle to survive the ancient feud.

This is a soundstage maze.. And we are incorporating elaborate puppet builds to achieve our Aliens.

Aliens, Predators, face huggers, chest bursters.. And possibly a few surprises.
QuoteHHN - Orlando @HorrorNightsORL  ·  26m
The maze is just finishing construction and into the first few days of scenic.. The detail is just awesome...

Before every maze is built we first design a CG model. These models allow us to see the maze in a pre-vis sense...

My last tweet tonight is one of the corridors from our CG model.. Enjoy!

It's going to be at both Universal Studios Orlando and Hollywood.

http://www.coaster-net.com/news/2451-aliens-vs-predator-invades-halloween-horror-nights (http://www.coaster-net.com/news/2451-aliens-vs-predator-invades-halloween-horror-nights)

"In Universal Orlando's spine-chilling maze, guests will find themselves thrust right into the middle of the primordial battle between the Aliens and Predators as they visit one of Weyland-Yutani's secret facilities to assist with a situation that has surfaced. Communication has been lost with a bio-weapons research facility in Central America which houses many divisions dealing in extra-terrestrial technologies, specifically the Alien Xenomorph species. Pieces of transmissions were received detailing that the facility has become compromised and another alien species called Yautja – commonly known as Predators - are hunting both the Xenomorphs and any human presence found. Guests will have to navigate through the labyrinth of destruction within the facility as they struggle to survive the ancient feud between these two deadly species.

The terrifying new "AVP: Alien vs Predator" maze at Universal Studios Hollywood will answer the proverbial question asked by mankind since the beginning of time: Are we alone in this dark, vast universe? "AVP: Alien vs.
Predator" will once and for all shed light on the answer when it brings to life the violent creatures cohabitating our world as it pits two rival alien species in a fight to the death with Earth as their battleground. This menacing maze
will uncover a dangerous alien spaceship carrying a race of hunter aliens known as Predators and a threatening new alien life form that uses human hosts to propagate its species. After crash landing in a remote section of America and escaping to the countryside, the alien and predator become hunter and prey with guests caught in the crossfire."

I've been attending the Halloween event in Hollywood for the past several years and believe me, Universal has always delivered when it comes to their mazes. They recreated the prison from season three of THE WALKING DEAD last year and previously constructed a huge animatronic Freddy Krueger snake nearly swallowing a victim whole from A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET 3: DREAM WARRIORS. I'm dying to see how they pull this off.

Oh shit, nice. It's just that the Orlando website mentions the AvP maze, but the Hollywood one doesn't, so I got confused.

So the two mazes are actually going to be different? That's pretty awesome.

Oh, went to the Orlando one during 2010 - absolutely brilliant! My only regret was that I didn't have anyone with me. You really need a friend to experience it properly.

They convert the entire park over for several evenings. They plan it virtually the moment the last one finishes, which means they've had a whole year to work on it. The exteriors has several 'zones' and then they convert certain interiors to haunted house-like experiences.

Sounds like this will be one of the interiors which is made up and converted.

Truly wish I could have gone to this one.

I'm wondering, though. If this is kind of a celebration of AVP's 10th anniversary for Halloween, why is AVP:R so heavily infused? In fact, it appears most of what's advertised is from AVP:R. Yech...

AVPR effects did look better than AVP, but had horrible lighting and made everything look muddy.

I thought about how they might do an 'Alien' haunted house, to celebrate the 35th anniversary, and it really wouldn't work. 'Alien' is scary because there's only one Alien but it's all very measured, timed scares to emphasize tension and dread. A haunted house attraction is based on the idea of a ton of jump-scares, so you can funnel as many people as possible through the attraction and let them all get some kind of "jump" at some point in the experience. AvP is a pretty smart choice since you can have a large variety of potential jump scares for both species, it allows for more creativity.

I really wish I'd gotten to go to HHN in 2011 when they did 'The Thing'.

ADI reusing their original moulds from the AvP films. That's pretty much the kiss of death for this project.

Post by: RakaiThwei on Aug 07, 2014, 04:39:19 AM
Ten years and people are still complaining about the ADI molds? I'd understand if this was another movie being made but this is an attraction and a one time thing. Guys, you're literally supposed to lose yourself and just enjoy the show.. otherwise you're depriving yourself some enjoyment. Which is you know, the whole point of this attraction.. to have fun.  :-\

Yes, but the mazes themselves are different. Hollywood is doing a "small town outbreak" theme, Orlando is doing a "Weyland Yutani research facility" theme.

While Orlando is getting the better deal, Hollywood is doing the small town setting because of the Walking Dead attraction which is being featured as the main attraction.. So obviously they have to accommodate for that. It shouldn't damper your experience, and if it does.. clearly, you're not letting yourself have fun.

That's kind of a short experience! And some of the creatures were puppeteered, that's fine but you could see the puppet workers operating them.. which kind of kills the experience. Perhaps I've been spoiled by Eastern State Penn's Terror Behind the Walls, but seeing this video here.. Mmmm.. I mean it looks like fun but if you can see the puppets being operated by workers, it just kills the AvP experience.  :-\

I went opening night! You can see every Alien and Predator, The Predators look AMAZING! Being up close to them, they look crazy good. the predators have a Scar Pred look with a more of a jungle hunter mask. The Queen is freak'in huge, I was shocked when I turned the corner an saw the giant Queen then another alien pops out from the side and scared the hell out of me. But the best scares were the facehuggers slamming into the windows.

I haven't been to either, but from that I'd probably say I preferred the Hollywood one. Mainly because a couple of the facehugger effects in the Orlando one are obvious, as effects. The Orlando one seems significantly shorter as well. That may just be to do with the speed at which both people were walking, but I'd say not. Also, I love the Queen of the Hollywood one.
However, I love the use of real people in the Orlando one. The marines are very cool.

i went to the orlando avp one.

the 1080p video still is not clear enough to show the little details or to convey the feeling you get when walking into that. plus the video recorder guy is speeding up the pace a little of walking through it with jumps if you look.

As shown you walk towards a truck and what looks like a avp video game building. a pred red targeting laser goes back and forth over the truck. Nothing but glee shoots through you as you walk into the tunnel. smoke machines and flashing lights as if you had stepped into your avp game for real. If you look, as you enter the room with the predator on the table there is a monitor showing everyone walking by in predator vision heat vision mode. a small detail that is entertaining to dance in-front of if you like.

Going in i didn't expect much from the humans, but those marines and personal did a great job. The predators (guys in suits) are tall like they should be and not cheesy. At the end they make ya duck down to walk down a avp air duct briefly where there is 1 alien you cannot back away from. The alien was no different than the other aliens but i think it was the only scary one because you had to get close to it. As a fan your probably not going to be scared of an alien or a predator, but those humans gave me a few jump scares because your not expecting them.

Me and a few friends went to Universal Orlando last week on a thursday night to see the AvP experience. I have to say, it was pretty awesome. It was the first thing we went to when the gates opened at 6:30 and waited about 35 mins to get into the attraction. I loved it, every bit of it. Seeing it on youtube does not do this thing justice, it was very authentic, and for a halloween house, a 10/10. Of course given that I am 37 and dont really scare all that easy it wasnt scary to me but rather "oooh look at the detail" "Oh wow Predator looks so lifelike" things like that. But, lots of girls were screaming and jumped a few times. It was about as realistic as an attaction could get. My only complain would be that I wish instead of going thru it in a long line, it was done where you can go through it in small groups, to get a better overall experience. O well.

At one point the wait times for AvP were longer than the walking dead. Over 2 hours! So if you are wanting to see AvP be sure to do that FIRST. The lines grow fast and will exceed 90 to 120 minutes very quickly. Also, if you plan on going be prepared to be checked at the gate like you are at an airport. They scan you, pat you down, make you take every little thing out of your pockets, etc. plus massive police presence is there. Which I dont really mind because I felt pretty safe thats for sure.

Oh, and bring $22.00 with you for a really sweet exclusive AvP shirt you can get in the main shop there. I am at work and can't take a pic of mine, but this image attached is the shirt that is for sale there. On the back it has a "Halloween Horror Nights 2014" logo by the neck.

Ah - so that's what that was. RidgeTop messaged me with a picture of that asking if I wanted one. I don't like the teeth on the AVPR Alien.  :(

Well, I just went last night and it was great! I really hope its a house that they do again.

Even though the advertisement for it uses a lot of imagery from AvP:R, it was mercifully not designed after it at all. The house was designed as a WY facility complete with facehuggers in jars (a la the ones seen in Aliens), lunging forward against the glass periodically), aliens coming out of the walls, a hive section, the predators were the guys in suits who would pop out at you here and there (one by some hanging skinned bodies) there were colonial marines and it ended with a "vent" that you had to crouch to get through.

Also, early in the house there was a predator on a table with a cheastburster wound, and I was worried that the hideous predalien from AvP:R would be making an appearance; I am glad to say it doesn't.

The house, like any, isn't ever really scary (they might be more effective if there aren't dozens of other people shuffling through with you at the same time), but it certainly was a lot of fun.
