Earlier this week the brand new Alien podcast – The Alien Minute Podcast – started posting their first episodes. This latest Alien podcast has an interesting premise; each episode’s discussion is based on a minute of footage from the theatrical cut of Alien (inspired by a similar podcast that does the same for Star Wars).
The Alien Minute Podcast is releasing daily (though not at weekends) and episodes run between 10 to 20 minutes. The series is hosted by John Ingle, a cartoonist and screenwriter, and Mitch Brian, a screenwriter, filmmaker and educator who has previously worked on Batman: The Animated Series.
The Alien Minute Podcast – a brand new daily Alien podcast that looks at Alien, one minute at a time.
John and Mitch have released five episodes so far so they’re only 5 minutes into the film but it’s a really intriguing premise and well worth a listen! Head on over to their website and check them out. The episodes are also available on iTunes. You can also follow them on Twitter.

Just finished episode 5, was pretty cool, I like the format a lot. Sometimes they get a lil off topic though.
Makes me want to watch the film 1 minute at a time with a friend lol
Also in ep 4 I think, they talk about the papers russeling, I personally thought it was to show the air refilling the ship. They seemed to think it showed the camera man as some sort of narrator. Interesting to say the least.
I gave it a listen. Each episode is rather short, so I don't lose focus before the end. Lol
Interesting concept for a podcast! I'll keep up with it, and see how it progresses. I like the attention to detail, which is forced by the fact they're only focused on a 1 minute segment at a time. They actually pointed out some really small details I'd never really paid any attention to before, like objects moving in the ship before anyone is awake yet (how was it moving? Why? Etc...).
I'd like to see them continue with the other alien movies, and maybe include some "bonus episodes" focused on deleted scenes and/or scenes in the director's cuts/special editions. That was the one thing I was kinda bummed out by... This is focused on the theatrical cut, so we won't hear anything about the scenes like the egg morphing scene, etc... :-(
So has anyone been keeping up with this podcast? They're on episode 60 now, and I'm still liking this a lot! I would recommend it!
PS. They do spend some time discussing the deleted scenes too! :-)
I'm a week behind but I've been really enjoying a more "professional" view on it. I've been waiting until the end of the weeks and listening to them in bulk.
Oh come on! You should give yourself more credit than that! You guys sound professional to me! :-)
Or did you mean professionals in cenimatography? Lol
I actual missed several weeks (long story), and I just spent the last week catching up. Went from episode 37 to 60! Lol

Yeah, I just meant these guys were actual filmmakers lol I like listening to how they're dissecting it.

I'm a week or so behind myself. Sometimes I just find I don't want to listen to anything.
Honestly, I'm not too into the discussions about choices in camera angles and things like that; the more hardcore cinematography. I don't mind it, but those aren't the pieces of conversation keeping me interested. I do really enjoy hearing more about the score and musical cues though. Otherwise, what I've enjoyed most about their podcast so far is the level of detail they're analyzing the story, music, dialogue, and visuals (i.e., papers rustling in the intro before anyone awakens, dippy birds, etc...). They've pointed out things happening on screen that I've never noticed before or things I did see but never thought twice about it. Whole new level of appreciation for the movie now!
The newest episode of this podcast mentioned a free eBook by Anne Billson titled "my day by jones: a cats-eye view of alien." I have never heard of this!! I searched for it but can't seem to find a copy. Any one have a PDF copy readily available?

Amazing, I was just searching for this pdf a few days ago. I noticed on the author's page tweetr page she says it's been pulled out from eveywhere and will reappear in some kind of cat book she's putting together... I pestered her with one tweet, nothing yet lol.
Yea I saw that too. I was hoping someone might have a PDF copy saved on their hard drive to share...
Love this pod. Easily my favourite out there. John and Mitch are brilliant at dissecting each minute and their guests are usually great value too.
It's funny that I thought I knew all there was to know about Alien as a film but this pod has made me realise just how much I didn't know about the film or even thought about.
Really hope they continue on with the other films in the series after they finish with Alien.

I really love Alien Minute. I love the experience of listening to 2 professionals break it down on that kind of level. It makes for a different experience to a couple of fans rambling on.
I'm hoping they keep going too.
I had listened up to minute 9 and had forgotten about this one. Listened to minutes 10-13 last night some great insight in there, a lot of similar thinking between fans for sure. Good stuff.

Completely agree with all of that. Nice new avatar too - Hicks is Barry Allen?

I f**king wish. I love the show and it's back on the air. Plus, you know I'm like the Flash with the latest news and etc so I figured why not :P
Sounds like they've confirmed an Aliens minute for next March (ish, maybe). On the Alien Minute FB group.

Agreed on that too. Really enjoy that TV show.
Great to see Mitch & John confirmed Aliens is up next.
So...HOW many minutes we in? ;)
105, I believe. :P
This is their last week of minutes so they've offered the chance for us listeners to provide our own insight and questions too.
Glad they confirmed they're doing Aliens next too.
In case someone here has unsubscribed to this podcast or something along those lines, I thought I'd mention that they just released a new episode... a bonus episode... "supplemental 2"... it's just over an hour long too.
Saw this yesterday but haven't had chance to give it a listen. Gonna download it and get to it later! How was it?
I actually haven't listened to it yet either...
Not sure if anyone else has noticed, but they've recently changed the logo. It's the "weyland yutani" logo from aliens now, but flipped upside down to make an "M" for "minute." Clever! They changed the logo to this a while ago, but it very quickly switched back to the original logo. But this time, the new logo has been up for about a week. I wonder if the "aliens" minute is about to start up...

Certainly is. John Ingles posted a pic of him reading the Alan Dean Foster Aliens novelisation ... it's coming very soon! Can't wait.
"Analyzing Aliens in short, controlled bursts" is the new tag line...

I saw a post on Facebook saying they're shooting to return this May... may is going to be just as eventful for the alien franchise as 4/26! :-)
Ha. I love that. Nice and cheeky. :P Definitely looking forward to this coming back.
Just subscribed. Got a lot to listen to. This will fill the voids of time between Hicks' podcasts.
What's up next from AVP Galaxy ?
You'll thoroughly enjoy this podcast! I did!
I had actually spent a week in the hospital with a collapsed lung last summer... this podcast kept me entertained for the majority of that time! :-)
I started it this morning on the way to work. Only managed about half of episode one. Good stuff though. I'm a sucker for anything related to my all time favourite movie.

What's up next from AVP Galaxy ?
Got another long one coming up. 2 hours and 45 minutes on William Gibson's Alien 3. I've got another half hour left to listen to. I'm aiming to get it finishing on Tuesday after the bank holiday weekend.
Ahh awesome dude. Can't wait. Remind me, is that the wooden planet one or the one with Hicks on a space station with mutating aliens ?
Thank for letting us know.
The one with Hicks. :)
Awesome
That'll be interesting. I'm less familiar with that script...
If I remember correctly, it has some elements that would fit with Prometheus quite well.
Is that so? I'd ask you to elaborate, but that might deviate too far from the original topic! Lol
Anyway, while off topic, my favorite AvPG podcast so far was the one about the original (or at least an earlier) version of the Prometheus script, titled "Alien: engineers." That story made so much more sense and sounded very good! I'm hoping alien covenant will be more like THAT script and ditch most of the Prometheus jargon... covenant looks to be going that route for the most part, but to be honest, I'm not a fan of the spore infection we saw in the trailers... I'm trying to keep an open mind though...
Have you read the script for Alien: Engineers?
No, just listened to the podcast from AvPG. I recently joined the weyland-yutani bulletin though, and found a PDF copy uploaded there. I downloaded it to the iBooks app on my phone. Maybe I'll get around to reading it someday... :-)
I'm quiet sure that there is a section here that has loads of unused scripts to download.
I believe you're right, but last time I checked that section of the site was pre-Prometheus. Lol
http://www.avpgalaxy.net/alien-movies/prometheus/
It's there at the bottom dude.
Bit late now though right lol.
http://www.avpgalaxy.net/downloads/
2 pre-Prometheus scripts there.
Just beat you to that, Hicks.
Also, I have listened to minutes 1 & 2. Loving it. Great insight to the cast and there priors in this first 2 mins.

There's an extra one (and all the other films) on that downloads page. :)
Lol. I'll never challenge you again Corporal. I'm just a grunt.
Hey thanks! I headed over and found a couple of downloads I've recently gained an interest in, like the leading edge rpg book!
So, is there any chance of adding comics to the downloads section if they are out of print? If so, I've recently created high quality PDF copies of countdown and crusade. If I can offer them up to put somewhere accessible to everyone that'd be cool!
Not sure that would be allowed although, I'd love to see those.
Let's wait and see what Hicks has to say maybe... if it's not allowed, I'll PM you and see what we can work out. :-)
Cool dude. Appreciated.
Our new episode will be up tonight! (BST)
Superb
From the alien minute Facebook page:
"Official Announcement!
The Aliens Minute Podcast will be premiering on Monday, June 12. I had initially intended for it to be June 5 but we had to change things up a bit due to technical difficulties.
We will also be doing the Director's Cut this time around as there is apparently no way to get a digital copy of the Theatrical Cut for us to chop up into clips. So that means we'll be going for about 3 more weeks than we intended.
We've also added a virtual tip jar at alienminute.com if you want to support the show. Just click on the little pig on the top left of the homepage.
Thanks for your patience everyone! See you very soon."
Another update from facebook:
OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT ABOUT THE PREVIOUS OFFICIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!
The show is still on for June 12 but we will NOT be doing the Director's Cut. One of our gracious listeners came through with a rip of the Theatrical Cut, so I'll be taking that three weeks of my life back. I hope this isn't a disappointment to anyone. We will still be extensively covering the scenes that were added to the Director's Cut.

Great pod isn't it. They don't hold back either and I agree with so much of what they say.
I just finished listening to the Covenant episode on the way to work. It felt more like a Lynch episode than a Covenant episode :P but they were pretty much on point with everything they said. I'm looking forward to Aliens Minute. I quite liked having their academic thoughts on the series.
I still haven't listened yet, but I had a feeling they were going to rip into the new movie. Lol
I finally listened. Wow they really tore into covenant! But they did make some good points! :-)
I'm really looking forward to Aliens minute, which should kick off this Sunday/Monday! Man, I feel like I've been waiting for ages! lol
Finally! It's back! Good first episode too! :-)

I've been looking forward to this! Gotta finish re-listening to River of Pain and then I'll listen. :)
I still have so much to go but im loving it.
Im on min 53 and have listened to the Covenant episode.
These aliens minute podcast are awesome! They go into great depth about the scenes from the movie. I have seen the movie over a 100 times and they pointed out some things in the film that I never noticed. Very cool check it out guys. ;D
I've missed John & Mitch together on this season's pod but the guests and guest hosts have been fantastic too.
Just saw on the alien minute Facebook page that someone will be doing a predator minute podcast.
Excellent! Doesn't look like there's any link or anything yet, though.
Not yet. Still pretty early I think. Sounds like it'll be hosted by crystal beth.
Anyone listening to the AMP's latest one off podcast dissecting Alien3?
Have they posted it?

Yep as of Tuesday. Part II just went up yesterday.
Thanks. I've started listening to on the drive today.
