Studio or market reality mandates the following:

1. Must be a follow-up to first film

2. Must be set in early 21st century America

3. Must include some kind of more unique veteran as the "main" Predator

4. Scar's Son/Predalien required to appear or be addressed somehow, "humaliens" must appear

5. Cannot include Lex from first film

What do you come up with as the story outline?

The Cruentus

Maybe set in space, Predalien hatched, caused havoc on the smaller ship which ends up losing some power and is drifting close enough to earth that is picked up by earth's satelite.

Humans discover it and a team is hastily put together (as an alien ship would be the biggest discovery so far)

Predators realize that the scout ship has not gone wherever it was going and is in fact drifting. So a team is of preds is sent.

It then focuses on some  humans and predators investigating what happened on the ship and havoc happens.

Predators have to avoid using their plasma casters and being careful with how they deal both the Aliens that would come from the facehuggers on board, as well as the roaming Predalien (which does not have eggbarfing)

Define "humaliens" ?

Human-born aliens, I suppose ?

Make setting like... a bigger version of the Predator Scout ship that left the mothership from AVP to orbit Earth, Predalien gets on loose there and kills Predator onboard. The ship defense systems whatever go down which allows humans to discover it, it stays orbiting Earth and US government goes investigate it. First team gets used for the facehuggers, which brings the human aliens.

I think it would be cooler to have the Predalien use the facehuggers on the Preds though, just all Predaliens. Not that many of them though. Humans send more teams. A old experienced Predator on his way to a casual hunt on Earth discovers the Pred shit orbiting it and goes to investigate. Then fight fight.

alien from a predator host = predalien

alien from a human host = humalien

Pretty much what I said though having the old experienced predator and thus a main focus, kind of means that he will have plot armor up to a point, most fights will then be predictable. Best to have all predators be more or less equal to some extent, so that any fight they get in with the Aliens can go either way.

If I could rewrite these films I maintain I'd have Celtic become Wolf so there's a character arc between the two. That being said within the parameters of this Wolf replaces Bull on the ship.

It's a simple compression of events since as cool as the homeworld is to see, it's cleaner to introduce Wolf this way. Wolf would be about the same, it's just that the crash plays a larger role in his story. The Predalien attacks as it does (I see no reason to change things). The shot fired by Bull may have been stupid, but this would be followed up by Wolf. It's not that Wolf has bad aim, he's genuinely shocked to see this thing aboard the ship. Wolf's burns probably is result of the crash here or that Wolf gets it in a fight later with the Predalien. Maybe encountering it again in the wreckage.

So the ship crashes and lets say part of it ends up somewhere else and Wolf approaches similar to how he does in the final film, like maybe he reaches an escape pod. We know the Predators have been doing these hunts for a long time so the fact there was never a Predalien is surprising. Given how weird this is for Wolf, we'd change things that it's a bullet point in his investigation. He'd make his way back to where he first encountered the creature and realizes it IS a Xenomorph but something is wrong. It shouldn't be this big, it shouldn't be this strong, and it especially shouldn't have survived the crash. This would also be a factor when he comes across the hunter and his son's bodies. The other xenos died in the crash, so what caused the chests to burst? And further, they've bursted in a way that doesn't resemble typical hatching. Much to the point like Wolf, the audience shouldn't know exactly what killed them other than something horrible did. We wouldn't see it in this case, less is more. This would tie into the genetic manipulations of later movies. Scar had some modification that resulted in this hybrid being far worse than before and all the more reason why what Assassin does later and maybe the Supers is so out of line.

When Wolf returns to the ship and discovers the Predalien and that it is alive but the other xenos are dead he suits up from dead bodies and the remaining armory. This would explain the dire situation. Wolf's helmet is f**ked and the Predalien displays weird. This is why the helmet is so banged up and why his aim is off. His self-destruct is also the only remaining one around and he has to destroy the ship. Otherwise his armor and weapons are rigged in a way that isn't really normal. He has to take on this monster essentially on his own and without backup. He can't call for help and reasons that the explosion (rather than an implosion) will alert the Humans something is up which might cause any nearby Predator to take notice.

Towards the end of the film Wolf would realize someone did and instead of a nuke being dropped, a whole mothership shows up. Probably a cameo from the Elder from the prior film in command.

The films ends;

- The mothership takes out Gunnison when the threat of the xenos is too much and there's no rescuing Wolf

- The mothership's crew rescues Wolf and bombs Gunnison

Why?

"Rewrite it without changing anything."

Yeah, if they handed me this project with those restrictions i'd tell them to Eff off.

If I could rewrite it to at least set it in an isolated part of the world, with different characters, then fine. But as is? No.

The problems with the AVP films are fundamental to their premises.

SiL

Wolf is a survivor of the crash. Limit the number of Aliens, clearer emphasis on Wolf trying to stop an infestation from starting. Humans actually do something other than just try to escape.

SuperiorIronman

One concept for the convict is that the Predator kills could be blamed on him. Simple weapons and if the situation is that dire for Wolf, his arsenal might be unusual enough that at a glance a Human could pull those kills off.

Say that the convict brother really does assault his brother's bullies from earlier in the film. The bullies stumble onto Wolf while he's handling a situation with the xenos and they get killed by him. The convict brother did assault them, but he didn't kill them. Still good enough to stick him in a cell even if they don't believe he killed anybody. You could have them look into what really killed those guys but ultimately they get captured. Assuming you still have the sewer fight this could be where the Humans are introduced to the creatures if the Predalien or Wolf bursts through the street where the cop is driving. You could even have multiple cars condensing the national guard to surviving cops driving alongside the car that had the brothers in it. The brothers want to clear their names of murder and stumble onto a very out of control situation Wolf found himself in. One thought is that Wolf's pistol could be dropped earlier in the movie or that in the process of investigating what's going on they find a pistol in the crash. This would also get them on Wolf's radar since he can't exactly let them leave with that.

The millitary mom could then be changed to an OWLF agent. She'd be on site to investigate what's going on and her hanging around the brothers is that she wants to bring them in for questioning about the Predator and the new creatures. The house her husband gets killed in could actually be a random house or a building under construction. Point is, this is where she gets killed forcing the brothers and anybody who happened to be with them to flee. The agent could bring them there as a safehouse or otherwise a place to wait for pickup. Maybe she does get through to other agents and its them who gets Wolf's pistol rather than Yutani.

Holy shit, that actually sounds interesting !

You could change quite a lot even if you stick with those five broad guidelines.
