The Region 1 version of Alien Quadrilogy has directors commentaries for Alien The Director's Cut, Alien 3 Special Edition and Alien Resurrection Special Edition that aren't included in the Region 2 and 4 releases. I would like to know what the director's say about certain scenes including the one with the Nostromo crew listening to the signal, the one with Lambert slapping Ripley, the extended version of Brett's death, Ripley finding Brett and Dallas mutating into eggs, the Ripley clone breaking the surgeon's arm, the rearranged and extended scenes aboard the Betty and ending with the Betty landing on Earth near the ruins of Paris.

Does anyone have Quadrilogy R1?

I do but I've never listened to the commentaries... ::)

I just assumed those commentaries were just extended versions of the theatrical ones. Didn't know there was anything new in them.

Why were the ommitted from the UK release if they did?

Been a few threads about this before mate, below are the differences...

"Region 1 allows you to listen to the audio commentary with either version of the film, but on the Region 2, the tracks are available only on: "Director´s Cut" of "Alien", "Special Edition" of "Aliens", "Theatrical Release" of "Alien 3", and "Theatrical Release" of "Alien: Resurrection". Further more, on the Region 1 discs, you can view an optional "deleted footage" marker, and you´re also able to view the "deleted footage" from the theatrical cut's "Supplements menu". Both of these options are missing from the Region 2 discs. R2 is also missing the "script to screen comparisons". Both cover and menu designs differ slightly between the Region 1 and 2 discs."

As you can see, the differences are nothing major..."

i did have some screen shots of the differences to, but seem to have lost them :(

From what I can gather R1 uses branching for the SEs.  eg. In the Alien3 SE, Murphy is calling for Spike in the vent, when Spike isn't even in the Special Edition of Alien3.  Murphy doesn't call for Spike in the R4 version.

Wow how daft is that! He doesn't call for spike in the R2 version of Alien 3 SE.

I think R2 and R4 are more or less identical.

I've just watched the scene again to to see if Murphy calls for spike in the Alien 3 SE and he dosen't on my version R2.  Wonder why the R1 version does?

I know what the differences are between the R1 Quadrilogy and the other versions. I was asking about what was said in the commentaries. I keep asking this on many forums and no one ever answers. Is there some kind of conspiracy to keep Australians from knowing what the directors think about the newer versions of their movies?

EDIT: Never mind. Someone already answered on the TrekBBS forum.
