I doubt it will do anything but its worth a try
I'm one of the very few people who are for SOPA.
I think everyone is bad becuase they don't want to have to actually pay for their music. All the "it's against the first amendment!" shit is just false. The bill has nothing to do with that. All it's trying to do is to stop people from stealing copyrights. I'm not saying that the SOPA isn't without faults, but a lot of people have taken it out of context. Way out of context.
However, I'm not going to debate. Just wanted to have my say.
From what I've seen that SOPA will have anyone that uses something copyrighted will be put into jail for five years. So people who make movie and game reviews for fun can put into jail. I never liked the bill for SOPA in the first place and glad that Obama is against it.
People who make AMVS will suffer the same fate
I wonder if using copyrighted characters for sigs and shit is covered by this..if so we're all f**ked here.
I don't care, either way I don't think it's not going to change anything in the long hall.

It never hurts to think about how bad this could get, therefore when it happens nobody will be surprised.

Thats the fun thing about legislation, you have to examine the full ramifications. A bill can say one thing, but the text can include things that can be ridiculous if they actually happen. That's why the Patriot Act is so hated, it hasn't really had much of an effect on normal citizens, but what it allows in the text of the bill is insane.

What about eviewers that review movies and games for fun? When you are watching a review, it's like you are watching the full movie or playing the full game. Reviews do tend have people go play or watch the movie that the person review which is a good thing.
I'm against SOPA because I like to pirate shit. Aaarrrrr.
I hope you guys aren't all taking this lightly. This entire site could be crippled if SOPA passes, not to even mention the wider implications on the Internet as a whole.
I'm against it. The internet isn't something to be governed by any government of a nation. It should be considered 'international waters'.
I actually watched a documentry about "What if the Nazis won WW2?". When the internet came along the Nazies got idea to govern the internet with their laws, it was their ultimate undoing.
I'm very much against it. As explained by this:
(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fa7.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net%2Fhphotos-ak-snc7%2F400061_2950929141668_1514571774_32776916_622502700_n.jpg&hash=421a482b82485ec62d75505fc44d0fe395265189)
Which is true by the way.
I hate SOPA as well, it seems like they just want things to be like before the Internet was made. People will still find ways to download things legally since they will just type in the IP address in the URL bar but the good thing is that SOPA is dead for now.
http://techpresident.com/news/21627/are-pipa-and-sopa-dead-white-house-issues-strong-declaration-against-its-key-provisions (http://techpresident.com/news/21627/are-pipa-and-sopa-dead-white-house-issues-strong-declaration-against-its-key-provisions)
I love how people keep raging about all the things that SOPA's going to put a stop to, without realizing that they're already quite illegal, and all SOPA does is readdress the penalties for those things.
your sig could be illegal if they want it to.
anything promoting that show should be illegal ;D

Wikipedia is going to black out in 21 hours in protest.
I hope Google does something as well, even if it's just changing their 'Google-title' thing to an anti-SOPA message.
We still have to worry about Protect-IP.
Protect-IP can still land us a felony and no way to build our lives up from even 2 seconds of a movie or song appearing in our work
Kudos to AvPGalaxy and its host for fighting the good fight.
We're all doing the best we can, and with a little luck and determination, it'll be enough to stop these initiatives.
People act like downloading things legally will hurt media when movies, games and music still make a lot of money. More people will rather sit down and watch a movie on a big screen then watch it on a PC at home.
If those items weren't so expensive in the first place, people wouldn't need to download stuff on pirate.

That's not even the issue at hand here, whether their public intentions were right or wrong, or whether or not piracy hurts the industry. It's the effect that such an iniative would have on the Internet.
On that note, you can't stop piracy in the manner which they proposed. Pirates would simply find a way around it. The only way is to offer potential downloaders something better than piracy (What that may be, I'm not quite sure).

Things like Spotify works great. I don't think I've downloaded a song since I got that.
I wouldn't have known, fanned, or experienced half the things I have if it weren't for the net and D/L'ing. Quality control - I always buy the shit that I deem to deserve it. Great movies, music, etc. I've bolstered my DVD/BD collection considerably thanks to D/L'ing, otherwise I wouldn't have bothered to dare waste my money.
QuoteIf those items weren't so expensive in the first place, people wouldn't need to download stuff on pirate.
Movies and Games still make a lot of money even with people downloading them. Recent movies like Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland, Toy Story 3, Transformers 3 and the final Harry Potter movie made over 1 billion worldwide. The 3rd Modern Warfare game also made around 1 billion in sales from what I can remember.
I don't think downloading effects the media that much. X-Men Origins: Wolverine was leak on the web a month and half before it was release and still did fine at the box office.

Same for me. Especially when you don't have a lot of disposable income to spend, you don't want to go buying no crap movie or game that you can't return. ;) If the product is good, not only will I purchase it, but I'll want to support it with my money. That's a basic responsiblility of any capitalist citizen.
I tend to think the internets as "international waters". The internets must remain open and un-censored if we are to have any hope of living in an actual free society. Let's not forget that the real enemies here are the RIAA and Ted Nuget/Metallica. These bitches are complaning about losing money when they're already millionares.

It's funny how the two biggest supports are the NFL and Hollywood. No supprise there.
Even more so when the big movies like Mission impossible 4 had a budget of 145 mill and still made a profit of about 500 mill.

That's too close to the Socialist>Communist slope for me. :D The government doesn't control what private corporations do with their profits outside of taxes, and to suggest that they should is a lot scarier an idea than internet censorship, imo. They earned those profits through business, people handing over their money for a product. It's not like they're stealing, and there are plenty of progressive laws for white-collar crime if they were.
I mean, the entertainment industry is simultaneously the United States biggest export and employs the largest portion of American workers. It's certainly provided my life with plenty of joy and fond memories. You let the system be free, and these guys end up making millions of dollars through decades of providing entertainment services to the public. Thats just how it went down. Of course its not all good, but I wouldn't want people getting pissed at me for making great products and getting rich, nor saying that I should somehow be responsible for supporting poor people, through government regulations, just because I got rich.
Just had to play devils advocate for a minute.

I can't wait for them edit this comment ;D!
Man screw the mpaa/riaa/nfl. Their media services suck. That's what piracy really comes down too. The prates give better service. Stupid drm that made it a pain in the arse to use the stuff that you bought. Stupid un-skipable dvd ads. That one really pissed me off and was the reason I went the free free route.
Lets be honest, as a consumer, pirates seriously benefit us. Now we have services like netflix and even crunchyroll... not perfect but pretty damn superior to the garbage that was offered by the stooges. Neftlix got a lot of smack from customers but it is a hell of a lot cheaper than the vcr days and more convenient. And to think that all of these modern services would never have been as the stooges never wanted online distribution and would have been illegal under sopa|pipa.
Even fansites are illegal under sopa|pipa, selling used products too. I'm glad that AVP Galaxy participated in the blackout. Being that fans should have the right to be fans.
MPAA sucks no matter how you slice it. If they're for something, there's probably a good chance it's screwy.
The media services can eat a dick.

Wikipedia gave plenty of notice. It's been all over the net that they were shutting down shop on the 18th. As for a click through, what's the point? It's like clicking on a page that preloads an ad with a "skip ad" link at the top. How many people actually sit through the ad without skipping, and of them how many actually take notice. Wikipedia wanted to make sure you got their message, and it worked.

A question though, because I don't fully understand American politics: Would Congress (assuming that's who will be passing this bill) still vote to pass it even though it's clear everyone, not just in America but around the world, are opposing it? Wouldn't that be destructive and cause extreme tensions with other countries?

Why are we throwing stupid jokes around? This is a protest about SOPA and PIPA.
Anonymous are planning a March on Washington DC and many other activities. It's supposedly going to be even bigger than the Scientology protests.

With Operation Blackout, the hacktivists have pledged for the first time to take to the streets and protest actively against the US government. "This is where we draw the line. This is when we leave our computers. This is when we take out our masks and defy the corrupt rule of law. This is when we revolt. The time has come for you to accept the truth and join us in overthrowing yet another corrupt military regime," reads the statement.
"Accept the truth and join us in overthrowing yet another corrupt military regime?"
That's a truly idiotic thing to say about the US. Sorry, college kid, but apparently you have no idea what a corrupt military regime is.
I hope he doesn't represent the entire protest.
The Protests against the Government are in response to The National Defense Authorization Act as well as SOPA and PIPA
Perhaps they should've protested the NDAA before it was signed in
Okay, so the bill has text in it that's related to homeland security and national defense. But "corrupt military regime" is so far off the mark and bogus, just trying to hype people up that know nothing about whats going on. I think it makes the whole thing lose credibility.
The White House had stated before-hand that the bill would not pass in it's current state
Look what happened
They said the same about SOPA, so people wanted to make sure they were correct.
The NDAA allows the Executive branch to assassinate, arrest, and kill people without any investigation more than probable cause. if you're missing a finger, if you're stocking up weeks forth of food rations, you're a terrorist if they say so.
If you're stock piling food, you probably scare the shit out of politicians so technically they would be correct.
governments should be afraid of their people, shouldn't they?

The Executive branch? Like, The President? If you hadn't noticed, he could probably do that anyway. He's the president. He could assassinate you, as well as kill you. ^.
But look, if you want to exaggerate "probable cause" to mean that you were hoarding food, if you think the government could assassinate/kill somebody and that kind of evidence would stand up in court, and the entire nation wouldn't pump their shotguns and run out the front door screaming, then well, Ima have to disagree. Strongly.
This country still has a backbone, as well as a constitution. I think it's the right thing to protest these laws, but I also think that it's crucial that people look at the situation realistically, so they can have a logical response to it.
If people are so paranoid that they start believing that our government has >the money, >the time, or, >the desire to kill a random American citizen that watches too much Alex Jones and try and say that it was probably (see what I did there?) cause for engaging a "suspected terrorist" on American soil, with weapons, then that's just too much Alex Jones.
It doesn't work that way, and when it does, shit
really goes down. I mean, people in America aren't so dumb that they can't see the end when it cometh. That's why we all. have. bloody. guns.

Well... I hate to be the bearer of bad knews but... it's proven that 80% of Americans can't find Canada on the map.
So yea... I did think they were that dumb...
Yesterday I saw an American article that said "bar" instead of "ban"....
Bahahahahaha
First of all, the word bar is in the definition of ban:
1. to prohibit, forbid, or bar.
http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/ban (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/ban)
And even if it was a typo, you mistyped news, so it should be reasonable for me to assume all Canadians MUST be stupid right?
Right?
Also, please refference the survey that said 80 percent of Americans can't locate Canada on a map.
Awwwww! No way! :D There have only ever been two bars I know. Metal ones and the ones where we get wasted. :D I learned something new today.
The survey, I don't have it, a grade 11 geography teacher showed it to us and we were all like "lol America is dumb". Then someone said " lol we could start a war with them then win it just by changing the map". Everyone lol'd. I tried finding it but couldn't.
I'm not dumb, this just hasn't been my day, nor was yesterday. :D

Last time I checked OPEN is nowhere near as horrible as the previous bills but still pretty f**ked.
QuoteOPEN would give oversight to the International Trade Commission (ITC) instead of the Justice Department, focuses on foreign-based websites, includes an appeals process, and would apply only to websites that "willfully" promote copyright violation.
Depending on how well this is defined, I would totally support OPEN.

QuoteHollywood thinks Congress is on their leash: Motion Picture Association of America President Chris Dodd just threatened to cut off Hollywood campaign contributions to any member of Congress who doesn't pass his Internet-censorship legislation.
After Congress shelved the controversial PIPA and SOPA bills, Dodd told Fox News:
"Those who count on quote 'Hollywood' for support need to understand that this industry is watching very carefully who's going to stand up for them when their job is at stake. Don't ask me to write a check for you when you think your job is at risk and then don't pay any attention to me when my job is at stake."

The Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement, which has already been signed by several countries, poses a dangerous threat to the inherent freedom and openess of the Internet. Under ACTA, ISPs and websites will be given more power to track what we do online, while forcing them to turn over our information and reporting our activity to the authorities -- all in the name of copyright protection! While we respect the rights of creators, ACTA's ill-conceived provisions will have chilling effects on free speech everywhere.
The European Parliament still has to approve ACTA for it to go into effect around the world. This says nothing about it being passed. You must have been misinformed.
It says on wikipedia dont know if thats a good sorce
I looked around a bit and it's being talked about. The most I've heard is that Obama is supposed to sign off on it to make it official but no word on that as yet.
Is it likely this site will be shut down?
ACTA was signed in September of 2011 by the United States. However, it won't start until the Senate ratifies it, which you better f**king help everyone tell them no.

Well links videos and pictures are the best way to get things across. The thing is a lot of people don't know about ACTA still.

You'd have to ask Darkness about that. He's the only one who would know for sure.
I hope not I need this site to live

Doubt it. It just means the big D would have to remove all pics, sigs, avs and videos. You know, all those annoying colours that break up the wall of text. Come to think of it, that'd be right up his alley. Maybe he's working for the feds :o :o :o
ACTA sounds scary as shit. It seems like ACTA has more support then SOPA did.
Well Now Australia, Germany, and other big countries have denied ACTA. Hopefully the United States will follow.

Har har...
In any case, don't expect the U.S. to reject this. Most of the major labels are in the States so it's highly unlikely.
