Title: An Alien Legacy, Interview with James Paxton – AvP Galaxy Podcast #89
Post by: Corporal Hicks on May 20, 2019, 02:57:08 PM

We have just uploaded the 89th episode of the Alien vs. Predator Galaxy Podcast (right-click and save as to download)! Our latest episode sees regular hosts Corporal Hicks and Xenomorphine joined by James Paxton to discuss his involvement with the Alien: 40th Anniversary Shorts Alien: Alone and Alien: Containment, as well as the legacy of his father, Bill Paxton.

We chat about how he became involved in the Alien: 40th Anniversary Shorts, his character, his experience working on them and being inside Alone’s Alien suit. James also tells us about some of his memories involving his father and Aliens and that legacy!

While editing this episode I realized we completely forgot to ask James about his Dad’s time on Predator 2. I reached out to James and he was kind enough to share the following:

“To be honest I don't have any stories about my Dad's time on Predator 2. The only thing I know is that my Dad hated his performance so much in that movie that he couldn't watch it. He never even wanted me to see that movie he was so unhappy with his performance in it. I hate to come with something negative there but that's the honest truth.”

Be sure to head on over to Instagram and Twitter and give James a follow! We also used the track “The Arrival” from Joel Santos’ score for Alien: Alone at the start of this episode. You can head on over to Bandcamp to listen to or purchase the soundtrack!

I'm actually a bit surprised that Bill Paxton hated his performance in Predator 2, given how many fans love it. At the time, it's a feeling I can completely understand (not liking your own work even though many people enjoy it).

I'll be real--I skipped ahead in the interview because I personally didn't care for any of the shorts. It's nice that James Paxton sounds very approachable, and incredibly open about his father. The thing about coming across a Hudson figure with the "e" missing at the end of "Louise" made me grin; I think the NECA figure remembered the "e" . . . I'm going to be looking for that every time I see a Hudson figure now. Darn it.

Great work as always.

Yeah, i'm pretty confused with Paxton's opinion about his performance in Pred 2 too. I mean, Jerry is essentialy Hudson of Predator universe so i don't get what's wrong with it? I love his character so much and his last stand with City Hunter definitely one of the best moments in whole franchise.

Very true, but so was a lot of the movie. I don't think he was out of place or anything. I really enjoy him in it.

It's not out of place, certainly.
Good interview AVPG.

Aye, Predator 2 overall was very hammy so I was a little surprised to see that.

I'm glad everyone is enjoying the episode so far, though.  :)

I've not been able to figure out which figure this is!

Paxton was way OTT even for Predator 2.  To be fair, he had some shitty dialogue.

Lambert was Hudson without the restraint and it shows.

Considering Paxton was capable of some brilliant performances it's not really surprising he wasn't terribly pleased with it.

I tried to find this on NetFlix and Prime over the weekend. Really fancied watching it after editing this. It'd been a while and I was so in the mood!

A lot of people really rag on that movie.  It's cheesy, but its great, and Bill makes it worth a viewing

Twister takes itself a little seriously occasionally, but overall it's great fun.

Never enjoyed it myself, I can see the appeal though.

I think it's one of those harmless 90's popcorn flicks, like Armageddon
