Well, it has been rumoured since before AvP Requiem came out, it’s now official: Sega will be publishing a new Aliens vs. Predator game due to be released in early 2010. Rebellion will be developing the game who also developed the PC FPS AvP1 (1999) and more recently AvP Requiem (2007) for the PSP. There are no platforms announced or even a genre. Here’s Sega’s press release:
“SEGA will publish an all-new Aliens vs. Predator (working title) game in early 2010. The game is currently in development with independent developer Rebellion… …”The innovative new AvP game presents an exciting opportunity for us,” says CEO of SEGA West, Naoya Tsurumi, “It represents a fantastic addition to our growing Aliens franchise and the reinvention of one of gaming's most cherished iconic titles. By adjusting the release of our other Aliens titles to accommodate it, SEGA will ensure that every title lives up to the high expectations of Aliens and AvP fans.”"

It doesn't technically confirm that A:CM will come out after AvP though that's the likely case. The quote isn't clear whether AvP will be the first of future AvP games or first of all the games.

Hell, I hope that quote above of what they said about it meeting our expectations is right...I would hate for it to be dissapointing, but all we can do is now wait for gameplay vids.

The SEGA press release says the AvP title is first.
...."SEGA continues to create masterful games based on our Aliens franchise and this new addition is sure to continue their successful track record," said Gary Rosenfeld, Senior Vice President, New Media for Fox L&M. In the same breath, Sega also noted that it has "strategically updated" the release of the other Aliens titles currently in development, alluding that Gearbox's eagerly awaiting Aliens: Colonial Marines will most likely get bumped back in terms of its current tentative release date of Q2 2009. No mention of specific platforms were made.
Rebellion for this game interesting... I would rather give the job to Monolith which deserve a better quality but anyway, i'm looking forward it.

I have nothing against Rebellion doing this game so long as they bring back the coop mode where you fight waves of aliens! that canyon lvl with the bunker at the end was the best...

I think that's pretty gay. I haven't been waiting on AvP, I've been waiting on ACM. I know Rebellion is capable of putting out a kickass AvP game, but I can't say I wasn't looking foward too colonial marines. Sucks.

It seems odd to release three separate games from the same franchise in a single calendar year. They'll essentially be in competition with themselves...
so essentialy avp game will be a graphic/game engine update of the 2 games that came out donkeys ago. so ill be buying the same game again only on a diffrent engine platform see why most of us have little faith in games companys regurgitating stuff .then put a spin on it to sound better
SEGA might rethink their actions if the public dislikes the idea...I mean we waited so long...then again, its good for them, they make a better game, we get suspense....maybe too much suspense...however Early 2010 is too long. D=

Now, that's all very well and good for Sega to announce a new AvP game, but what about good ol' A:CM? We have been waiting an eternity for the damned thing to grace our gaming hands only to be told in late January that its pushed back a bit for more polish. A great PR technique to get your customers satisfied with the announcement of another game for a franchise but detracts from the original product. Maybe Sega sees A:CM as flopping?

Awesome news! I really hope it's AVP3 or a new FPS or a FPS/3rd person hybrid. And they should totally use the Unreal 3 engine. OMG that would be amazing!!! It sucks A:CM is being pushed back = ( It's at the top of my must-have list. I hope it's good and the delay will ensure it. I can't wait for more info and screenshots for both games = D
The two things probably don't have anything to do with each other. Gearbox has been sending out 'Project Delayed' vibes for months now. I don't really care as long as it results in a better game.

Awesome. Hate to see A:CM being pushed back (again!), but I was waiting for a new AvP for some time... Not too keen on Rebellion though, haven't produced a single classic in the last 10 years and even AvP 99 is flawed. Rather had Monolith if I had to choose from previous developers, but then again: both Lith and Rebellion prefer in-house engines, and both are lacking in mod-support. Other developers might have a shot too, but that depends on how well the new AvP does in sales... :( Personal keywords: -Atmosphere -details -immersiveness -balance -STORY ARCH! (AvP 99 was a succesion of seperate levels and no motivation whatsoever, AvPII beat that by a mile) -Decent, preferebly class based MP experience instead of the tiresome DeathMatch...
Much better! Now there'll finally be a modern title which lets you experience what it's like to be the creatures. :) Now, if only they can get things accurate, this time around, like the Predator vision, when it magnifies... And no laser-designated flying discs, please. The second film never showed any such thing.

i like that the guys who made avp1 are making avp3. avp1 was alot faster paced and creepier than avp2. i just hope they balance the pvp better than they did in avp2. how long does it take to make one of these games? they said beginning 2010? that is only 1 year. as much as i want to play avp3 NOW i want them to do a good job.

Well, like I said before, "It's about damn time!". lol *sigh of relief* Finally. It's been about 9 years since AVP2 was released for PC. ::) This is great news, and what is quite possibly just as great a news is... there's a PC version in development! w00t! :D On the other hand, I'm miffed Rebellion is going to be heading up development again. After the first AVP game and the more recent Battlefront: Renegade Squadron, I have absolutely no faith in their ability to create a quality licensed title while staying as faithful as possible to the source material it's based on. Personally, I wish Sega would have put development in Gearbox's hands (after CM is finished, of course), or give it back to Monolith. >:( Especially after playing F.E.A.R. 2: Project Origin (holy sh*t that was sick!). The first AVP PC game was great on a technical level (for a 1999 title mind you), but canon was so horribly skewered the only thing the Xenomorphs and Yautjas had in common with their film counterparts was their looks. >:( Although they still weren't perfect, Monolith did a muuuuch better job with the sequel in that respect. Well, here's hoping we'll still get an incredible title that stays faithful to the films and makes the terrible wait we had to go through worth it. ;) :D

This is awesome news! AvP 2 is one of my favourite games ever, and I've been awaiting a third one since forever! It's sad that ACM and the RPG is being delayed, but even if SEGA would have to cancel them both, I would be happy as long as they made AvP 3. And someone mentioned the fact that SEGA stated that "Aliens and AvP fans will be happy", and not the predator fans. My reply to that is that you guys have had your share amount of predator stuff. We need more aliens! :D I hope no one got offended by that. But seriously, we've had Predator: Concrete Jungle, the AvP-PSP game where you could ONLY play as the predator, and not to mention the AvP 2 movie, which was clearly favourizing the preds. I've been waiting SO LONG for a chance to play as the Alien, like in the AvP2-game, and I really want that to happen in the third game! :D And there'll be preds in AvP3 too, anyway. ;P

This game is my favorite and I will be very happy to go, but I would have been issued Aliens Colonial Marines this year and has something to play until 2010, and warms up for Aliens vs. Predator Aliens vs. Predator 3 - 2010 YES YES YES Aliens Colonial Marines - 2010 "NO" but 2009 certainly YES
You better all calm down, swearing to the people that will give us something isn't the way to do it, AVP came first ACM after, now let it come in it's chronological order. once AVP3 is done, ACM will get all the attention I can't believe you are so blind and resort to swearing.. Thanks Sega AVP has always needed a final product if not a tease for even more! Take your time in developing the titles, these fans can benefit from their temper by either doing something worth the wait or going to anger management.
