This is starting to do my head in Blomkamp says one thing then everyone assumes its retcon, then says not trying to undo and fans and websites assume its a direct sequel to Resurrection. Please put us out our misery!

He just hasn't said where he is placing the sequel.

Yeah I hope this doesn't turn into another Prometheus "is it/isn't it" situation.

Having said that, give the guy a break, he's promoting his new movie and now it's living in the shadow of his next one.

I wonder if they pulled the sky news interview because they intercut it with all the Michael Biehn artwork etc and that is what is contributing to all this confusion. Websites and the endless new threads on this site don't help the situation by claiming that he officially said it's rewriting the series when he NEVER EVER said that!

Because it's an alternate story to the original two sequels to Aliens.

They wake up, Alien 5 happens, that's all. If what has been said is to be believed Alien 5, or whatever they decide to call it, will follow on from Aliens, and by process of elimination that means Alien 3 has to go. Blomkamp didn't seek out to destroy Alien 3, but the story he wants to tell requires it not to have happened.

The definition of a retcon.

Obviously Alien 3's story or A:Rs will always exist, it's just strange having a fork in the road suddenly appear whenever you get to the end of Aliens.
