Looks like there
was a scene of the Engineer exiting the crashed Juggernaut. Cool, wish we could've seen it though.
The bonus material from the film is seriously amazing. It's a bit overwhelming how much stuff they put in there.
Also apparently the film is being sold ahead of release here: http://dvdworldusa.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?cat=Top+Sellers&search=yes (http://dvdworldusa.com/shopdisplayproducts.asp?cat=Top+Sellers&search=yes)
What's this very special surprise for AvPGalaxy fans? Is it retailer specific? I've preorder mine from amazon, do I need to change?

No, it's included in the bonus disc. Just a small surprise.

In Jon Spaihts script, Shaw has to battle a gigantic Xenomorph that comes out of the Engineer :P Yep, that's the one :P
Good stuff. Love the adult Deacon. Also, seems they deliberately scaled down the corridors and Engineers/Jockey, sort of a shame but at least it's clear they didn't do it without considerable thought. Trilobite looks good. Giger's sketches also reveal the tentacles and worms (which he has always found repulsive) so the naysayers can take a hike.
..i wouldnt be surprised if we ended up seeing some of this stuff in the sequel.. :P Given Ridley's new tendency to dip into old and unused ideas :P
Yes, I think a lot of this stuff would have been at that Alien prequel trilogy stage, that was then denied, but is still clearly the plan.
Was this supposed to be the ship from the prologue?

Some really great stuff here.

Goddamnit this is some really, really sweet stuff. Makes me wish a lot of it had shown up in the movie proper. :(

They call it the sexburster in the commentary.
The whole documentary is extremely interesting but there are some particular bits that got my attention. Like when one of the designers mentions that the Engineers worship the deacon as the "virus spreading" god. Or that the Deacon was supposed to attempt to chase Shaw at the end of the film. The Engineers' lifespan and more mythology stuff.
The amount of art is massive too. Almost every key comment is illustrated with unseen concept art, storyboards or script pages.
How do you know what's in the commentary? The DVD hasn't even come out yet.
Early preview copy :) for reviewers etc. :)

Everything is beautiful. Truly inspired. Lets make some noise and send a clear message that it's OKAY to have crazy shit like this in a film!

Very interesting about the Deacon. That would explain why it or something like it is in the mural in the orrery. (Was that the orrery?) I was under the impression the Deacon was a once in a lifetime combination the Engineers might never have encountered before, as they'd never had the chance encounter of human birthing a trilobite and therefore a Deacon. I got the feeling both creatures were more horrible accidents of genetics, side effects of misued bioweapons that David took home for Weyland, accidents of experimentation compounded onto the others that had befallen the Engineers thousands of years ago. Or maybe they have had a trilobite and/or a Deacon around before, maybe the process and chain of events doesn't work the way we think. It's all speculation.
I personally never had much problem with the Deacon. I think people might be more charitable had we seen it in full action.
I think they'll likely take even more risks on the next film, as this one did well and kickstarted the franchise again. From the perspective of a studio there's a lot to be said for risk management when you're trying to revive a dormant moneymaker - and when you've already taken major risks loosening its ties to the prior films, focusing in on an obscure element like the space jockey, playing with heady concepts and drastically reworking the original script, which was much more of an Alien homage package IMO. Thus, taking it easier with stuff like practical Fifield, etc. I think it'll just get more out there for the sequel.
BTW not sure who posted this originally but this Moebius image can be seen in one of the walls in the art room: http://i.imgur.com/VYkB9.jpg (http://i.imgur.com/VYkB9.jpg)
For those asking, the film has been on 'stock' at some online retails for a few days. Apparently it's common practice to sell these things ahead of release date. So people have already got early copies of this.

I wonder why no one managed to snap a pic of it back then, should have been visible from London millennium wheel. ;)

Jeesus bejeezus this is all very cool.
Great concepts. The worms coming out of the (decapitated?) head is pretty nasty, as is the sex burster. Would've been cool to see those on screen. Great posters too, like Gutalin's Paradise one, which took me a while to see the words.

Quoteand it seems they had a suited up engineer waling in the movie.
That's from the Hologram sequence from when they enter the pyramid.
As much as I continue to enjoy the film.....they played it safe. It could have been a bit macabre, slightly grotesque, and yet, they went with what would get them by.
Let's hope they learn their lesson and make Paradise something much more grand.
^^^ this. need darker stuff
i don't know why they would learn their lesson by scrapping stuff. You just saw behind the scenes shit. Stuff that don't make the cut. Theres a difference between not making the cut and being right for the material. Its kind of like So you think you can dance show. How would that show be if they all won? (some people think they all did but thats not the point)

I am not the professional director, but I look to this as money threw out of the window.. Additional principal photography $$$. I think everybody understand to implication that engineer got his ass out of the chair, out of the Juggernaut and ran to the escape pod just with editing and Fassbender's one line of dialogue..
They shot and re-shot a lot of stuff. Like the PG-13 version of the med pod scene where there seemed to be no blood.
it would have been nice to see this scene of engineer coming out of the fire. .
i can't find the picture on the slideshow banner on avpgalaxy's home page? Any one have it?

Shooting for different ratings, blowing through different designs and concept tests - this is all par for the course for every studio film. It also happened on Alien. A great expenditure was put forth to risk on Giger, who was Ridley Scott's muse, and Scott was no big name at the time, either. They went out on a limb.
In 2012, Prometheus was designed to restart what had become a massive franchise. The original script - all facehuggers, aliens, evil androids, etc. - was a somewhat safer bet. The final film, focusing even more on the Engineers/jockeys, was far less so. So while they did err on the side of caution with some stuff as was to be expected with restarting the property, the overall gamble of the larger concept - not just another Alien movie, but something far larger and weirder - was the real risk.

Well said! And I agree.
And I feel like the gamble paid off. As well as it can pay off in the current self centered cry-baby internet climate were everyone is a critic and a movie mogul. We'll be getting our "Paradise" for sure. And since the "Alien" is out of the bag, so to speak, production can focus on a broader pallet of strange, beautiful, and horrifying abnormalities that will be waiting for us there.

But the concept art is now being used for commercial purposes. Pretty sure they need to get the permission from the photographer that took that pic.
Anyway, all that stuff there is better than what we got on film.
This would have been a way better Jock design (http://www.avpgalaxy.net/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/blu-45.jpg), while you can definitely see a human aspect is still very alien.
And this one (http://www.avpgalaxy.net/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/blu-36.jpg)without a doubt looks like something that was under that suit sitting in that chair.
That design would not have worked with the 'Dna matches' thing they were going with.
So, maybe this has been asked before...but, on the 3D Blu Ray, is the 3 hour documentary a regular Blu Ray disc or is it 3D as well?
Standard, most probably. The fact it's HD is by itself sheer 'luck' (for the fans of the film).

I personally think there is a fine line where everybody should use common sense before calling their lawyers.
I am happy and surprised to see such work on the bluray, it is much more unfiltered then the content of the artbook.
If we all shut up we'll continue to see such cool stuff in the future.
If we don't we'll get much less content and stupid things like those blurred out posters, products and band-shirts in making of featurettes that I have to endure since a few years.

Why not? Fruit Flies match like 60% with the DNA makeup of humans.
You dont have to look exactly like human to have matching DNA.
They say 'dna matches, we are a derivation of them' or something along the lines. Audience wouldn't believe we derive from that. Too alien.

Natalie Portman likeness makes sense. She was considered for Shaw. Hence the likeness. just like the James Franco Holloway in the Art of Prometheus book.

If he was in the role, he should've said 'so good' after sex with Rapace.
You know, every time I hear Franco is in line for a serious role these days I laugh and roll my eyes. He's become so obnoxious, so forcefully meta. And yet, Rise of the Planet of the Apes is a surprisingly solid genre film I actually bought, and he's pretty decent in it because he is forced to play it straight. So he could have potentially worked here. But I think I'd just be predisposed to find him obnoxious - as opposed to what everyone else on the forum did with poor old Logan Marshall-Green.
I am soooo excited to get my 3D Blu Ray copy! I was pumped before, but now hearing about all this makes me gitty!!!!! God damn i love this sh!t.
So tell me, where do I get the SecondScreen app? :)
One of my favourite things about the Alien DVD and Blu-ray were the two commentaries by Ridley Scott. Anybody who has already got their copy, can they tell me if the Ridley Scott commentary for Prometheus is good? I'm more excited for that and the Furious Gods documentary than seeing the actual film again!
It's decent. I preferred the writer's commentary myself. Much more revealing.
Awesome. I will definitely be checking out the writers commentary too!
Im surprised no one has mentioned the "Soldier" with the pulse rifle.
Can we now assume the role Rafe Spall originally auditioned for was David? I heard he originally auditioned for another character (undisclosed), but was chosen for Milburn. That just might be it.

I sure hope so. In the right light, with the right subtle bodily articulations/pulsing ... that thing could be suitably disturbing and be capable of perverse things.
That first piece was a very early idea for the Engineers. One person from production told me that initially Ridley thought of the Engineers as being some kind of giant whale type creatures.

I Noticed! Likely it was just from being in that 'Alien' state of mind. But I felt the chestburster on the squid body was a gimme. Pretty obvious from a design stand point.

That is both interesting and contradictory. Ridely's been saying for years that the Jocky we knew from 1979 was a suit. How they would have managed to get a creature of the proportions from the first pic into the traditional Jockey suit would have been beyond me. Glad for what we got. Super excited for seeing the curtain thrown back and seeing (and hearing) all these design choices and possible/alternate creative paths.

Does anyone know if the screenplay will be included on any version of the DVD?
I take that this wasn't in the theatrical cut?

What the...?
Where exactly is that from?
Is it maybe related to this?:
QuoteIn the Peter Weyland FIles, the section about Quiet Eye says the following (excerts)
"Naive. That's my take on Dr. Elizabeth Shaw...I must say i find her Zeal somewhat refreshing, if a bit misguided, given what i know nevertheless i have chosen to fund her proposal.
Dr Shaw and Dr Holloway's findings are only mildly interesting to me....BUt i have no intention of spending my remaining days by wasting a trillion dollars on a mission to a star system 39 light years away based solely on a leap of faith by a wide-eyed, God-fearing archeologist.
As fate would have it, their interest in Zeta 2 Reticuli has proven to be mutually beneficial....My science division's own long range scans have recently detected a faint almost imperceptible signal emanating from one of the lesser moons in that system. And contrary to the findings of Shaw, which target LV-223, our findings suggest the point of origin could actually be the moon LV-426.
Per standard procedure, we will embed a David 8 unit with the crew. ... But only David will know about 426 and will ensure the rest of the crew learn nothing about the transmission we've recently discovered until the time is right."

Well this was a pretty dumb idea. The two series really don't ever need connecting.
I like it. There's no way the timelines makes sense - they never did - but I've always liked to believe it's the same universe anyway.
Not a big fan of having them literally connected, the timelines just don't make sense. i mean maybe having "replicants" exist as a failed project (as a tongue-in-cheek in-joke for the fans) in the Alien/Prometheus universe would make sense, but to have Prometheus and BR literally be in the same universe would be pretty retarded.
I always liked the idea that Alien and Blade Runner existed in the same universe. But, I never really wanted it to be on the surface. So, I hope they don't spoon feed us connections in the next Prometheus film and in Blade Runner 3. That would be really annoying!
Anyone's got the original script(s)?
Thanks
When we asked Fox about that, the person who replied back said that at the time there wasn't any information on the script being released and didn't believe there are any plans in the near future.
I hope this doesn't meant it won't be released soon maybe using some online platform or something of the sort.

I remember the Blu-ray showing a few pages of the script during some of the special features. This doesn't mean that it won't be released in full at some point anyway. Guess we will have to wait and see.

Look on the brightside: we're in the hands of folks with some awesome f**king ideas, and if (heaven forbid) these ideas actually make it on film, we'll be glad we're in their hands because they rule.

I'm not sure what's in those screencaps to think we got a "safe version". I neither like that version of the deacon or the androgynous/David Bowie type engineer (if that is what it's meant to be).

Didn't Lindelof and Spaihts said that lv 223 is not anywhere near lv 426? And either them or Ridley said in one of the commentaries that the 223 designation was chosen at random? Stupi to put this thing in. I wonder if this was cooked up by the marketing team

You think that's dangerous? Looks like every bog standard 'grey' alien, just built over a skinny model with a badly photoshopped head. Couldn't even be bothered to remove the landing strip-pubes.
Engineer as it finally appeared is miles better. And that representation of the Deacon pretty much looks like the adult version of what we got anyway.
The more people see of the Deacon, the more I like it. But I was never all that annoyed with it. I thought it looked fine, I just thought the choice of that as the final scene was a bit silly.
I'll be pissed if the Spaihts draft is not on the Blu. I was told it would be there. I'm sure it'll leak soon, if not.

Maybe. I asked if it would be released in "any form" and that's what this Fox person answered so I'm not sure.
And I'm waiting for the Android version of the Second Screen App myself. Attached you can find the iTunes app events file and nothing seems to show up there. It probably wouldn't be too difficult to add extra content to the app at any time anyway.

I really like the body design but i hate the head design. In that i think what we got was better.
The head design does look a bit like Steptoe without his teeth.
its much better, the one we got is just lame and not scary at all...and the inner jaw is look like rather then a mutation mistake than a dangeourus killing tool
yeah, i wonder how it is supposed to kill something with it.
Definitely think the Deacon would have looked better white, say that much. But maybe it'll be the opposite of the chestburster and grow into an albino.
