I never perceived the "Super Predators" as much different from traditional Predators. They're not. A little bit bigger, a little bit bunkier, sure, but that's about it. It's like Noland says; they're like wolves to dogs - but there are dog types out there that are every bit as big as wolves, they're not that different in appearance. The Super Predators differ more on their personality, their hunt ethics and methods. No big deal, it's a welcome expansion to the lore - as is the Assassin. That one actually is a different, brand new type of Predator. "Unnecessary" is relative, a lot of things are "unnecessary" until we see them. It was "unnecessary" for them to make T-800 the good guy in T2, but they did and look at what we've got. As of recent we've found out there is a specific reason for him to be the way he is, and it's another interesting addition to the mythology. "Bigger doesn't mean better" and blabla yeah everybody knows that; but the Assassin is not just bigger. It's clear he's got new tricks to offer, and I really wanna see that. He doesn't need to be better than the classic Predator, Shane himself has said that nothing beats the classic. He's just supposed to be different, something new, and I'm completely down for that even if he doesn't end up being my favorite Predator of all time. Or, who knows, he might just end up being. Everything could happen.
