Probably mentioned before....anyone know if there are real 4k versions coming out someday for the Alien series and Prometheus?

The current Prometheus and Covenant 4k versions are not real 4k. Just upscale 1080p versions.

PS: 65" Sony X900F or Samsung Q7FN?

Probably sometime after the 40th Anniversary disc has been on the shelves for a while. Perhaps when another film is on the horizon.

Prometheus or Covenant?
I doubt it. Not for some time anyway.
Their original 4K release
is far too recent.

As for Alien, Aliens, Alien³ & AR.
It's difficult to say, Director
James Cameron seems to
have no time for home media
releases anymore. (Aliens)
Addendum: Be careful
what you wish for.
(Judgment Day 3D/4K)

And we all know how
David Fincher regards Alien³
-unless something's
changed between
1992 and 2018.

I'm willing to entertain the idea,
the possiblity that Alien will be
the only one of the original four
on 4K, for some period of time.
Unless Charles De Lauzirika
oversees all the Alien sequels.

Jean-Pierre Jeunet's
likely to return though
I'd say, with a big bowl
filled with DNR.
Although he said the
transfer for Resurrection
didn't look as "Silver"
as he'd intended so
I'd be interested to
see that if possible.

I doubt they will ever release true 4k versions of Prometheus or Covenant. All digital effects were mastered in 2K, so they'd have to redo all of it if they want to do a true 4K release which will never happen. Lots of 4K discs are upscales anyway, but that doesn't mean they're bad. There's still extra detail and the HDR makes them a huge improvement over regular Blu-ray versions.

Covenant needs
it's effects redone.

So does Alien³
Tbh.

I would love to see Alien 3s effects redone.

Will never happen though :-\

Alien³, yeah. But Covenant looks pretty damn good for the most part I'd say.

Everything in Prometheus
looks excellent, the blend
of practical and digital's
seamless.

In contrast, Alien Covenant's
Neomorphs look super fake.
The Alien itself varies from
scene to scene, excellent
Chestburster, but awful
under the shower etc.

Alien³'s compositing is bad,
across the board. However
The effects themselves aren't.
A fan could clean them up,
20th Century Fox with the
negatives could do wonders.

I thought the Neomorphs looked great. ???  Maybe the backburster was a little dodgy sometimes but still good overall. I agree about Prometheus and Alien 3 though. I wonder why they never did anything about Alien 3's bad effects.

Yeah probably, ha. Too bad, I like Alien 3 but the bad compositing really annoys me.

The compositing really is the only thing I'd fix FX wise.

Same. I'd love to see them re-composite the original footage or just do over the dodgy shots completely with CGI.

We'll have to see how well Alien sells, though. If it doesn't do good business they wont bother with more.

Second that. Some of it really stands out like a sore thumb.
