Yeah its a little "on the nose", I wish they had given her a less Ripley-like appearance.
Its like every ship has a Ripley-Type woman onboard just in case any nasty beasts attack.
They've only really shown us tank-top Daniels. Be nice to see her other costumes. Perhaps they're not so on the nose with the Ripley similarities.
Oh yes she is so much like Ripley with... her tanktop... and her... gun ????
Obviously, we don't know how she's going to be portrayed but there's a visual similarity to Aliens Ripley that people have picked up on since the first time we got a proper look at her.

This is way too Ripley. We've had Ripley-type characters in every non-Sigourney Alien film, but never has she been so evenly matched visually as Daniels seems to be now. I would venture to say that Ripley in Alien:Resurrection was less Ripley than Daniels is now. I'm skeptical, but it remains to be seen how well this is pulled off. If there is a positive in this, I hope that it will result in fans wanting to see the real Ripley in action again in Blomkamp's upcoming Aliens film.

We already saw a new Moebius style spacesuit helmet in one of the earlier stills. The old Prometheus one will also be making a comeback, but that might only be in the flashbacks.
I imagine whenever we see Shaw it'll be that costume. Unless she picked up some extra clothing from Shaw's escape pod.

yea iv not seen fantastic beasts yet, but I intend to. Heard mixed reports though but interested to see how Waterston performs in it. That being said, her role in that movie is the polar opposite of her role in Covenant I'm sure. In her interviews she comes across as very real. That's one of the things I'm hoping she brings to her character in A:C, a gritty kind of reality to her. Much like all the actors in the '79 film brought on board. Bit of a tall order but I think she is capable of it.
She was very good in Manhattan Romance, it's on Netflix.
From what I've seen, she has a way different energy than Sigourney. A character is more than a costume, people! :D

She seems quite shy in interviews. Maybe not used to the limelight. I think it's adorable though, how she acts. They couldn't have picked a better actress for Ripley 2.0.

Waterson is actually a very good looking woman. I thought she was really good in Fantastic Beats. A pretty subtle performance for a lead character, but still very good. I think that subtle nature she brings will work brilliantly in Covenant.
She was nuanced in Inherent Vice and Steve Jobs, I think she'll be great.

Frames look alike but corridors in Mars movie were different.
A bit different but I think The Martian's designs definitely informed them. I've noticed some other aspects of Covenant also have a very NASA-esque feel to them especially that pic of McBride in the dropship (or whatever it is) cockpit.

Yeah, they look NASA-esque which I like because it looks genuine. Arthur Max was responsible for The Martian but Scott hired (or had no choice because Max didn't want to do another Alien movie) Chris Seagers for A:C.
Really? That's curious. I loved the design of the Prometheus ship, in its own way but I felt at the same time that some of the alien areas were a little basic and minimalistic. I'm a little divided on some of the new ship settings, but like some of them, a lot; and the alien environments look pretty great, so far.

Exactly. We're not going to see every single facet of their culture. We've seen Engineers outside of their biosuits before and this is no different.
It seems that everyone has an explanation for everything, but the most complete answer is the simplest one.
Humanoids on that planet are not Engineers. Whether they keep their shuttles in backyards or in some distant hangar
is not sufficient or relevant argument.
