Am I mistaken, or is the third pic heavily based on a Dark Horse piece?

I seem to recall it with a different mask.

Ah, now I get it.  I thought I recognised it.  Fan of the Big Game covers, huh?  Me too.  Too bad the interiors were by Evan Dorkin, and no match for the quality of the covers.
