David from Covenant could be obsolete by comparison. Completely in shadow. And I think that his meeting with the old David can wake him.
Obviously this is a simplistic summary, but we know that Ridley Scott is a genius on the development of androids. (Ash, Blade Runner and David).

I expect David to be strange toward him because he is his only equal. And/or I expect David to experiment on him, feeling he is a god and the new David is not. So either they team up or David uses him conflictedly.
