Just when I think Titan can spoil us no more in 2019, they go ahead and announce another new book to excitement my nerdiness! Announced via Bloody Disgusting, Titan are going to be publishing a pretty interesting new book called Alien: 40 Years, 40 Artists Book!
Alien: 40 Years, 40 Artists" is an artistic tribute to the sci-fi horror masterpiece Alien. 40 artists, filmmakers, and fans have been invited to contribute a piece of original art to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Alien in 2019.
Pieces range from alternative posters to gothic interpretations of key scenes. Sketches, process pieces, and interview text accompany each new and unique nightmare.
In addition to cover artist Dane Hallet—an Alien: Covenant concept artist—the contributors include Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve, Sam Hudecki, and Tanya Lapointe; Star Wars concept artist and creature designer Terryl Whitlatch; and Kong: Skull Island director Jordan Vogt-Robert, and Jon Wilcox.
I will never get sick of seeing Dane Hallet’s Alien art and those are some pretty heavy hitters involved with this book! Alien: 40 Years, 40 Artists is currently slated for release on the 10th of October, just a week before Alien: Prototype is due to hit the shelves.
If you head on over to Bloody Disgusting, they also have the exclusive reveals of the cover art for both Alien: Prototype and the novelization of Alien: Isolation.

I bet this is what Tristan Jones's recent tease was for!
Dane Hallett!
Denis Villeneuve!
Sam Hudecki!
Jon Wilcox!
Woohoo!!! Best announcement!
Denis Villeneuve's involvement really surprised me!
Denis Villeneuve and Tanya Lapointe,
husband and wife.
A indicator of the future?
P l e a s e
I find this equally sad and ironic, because Giger contributed a piece for the 'Star Wars' book which was along these lines, a few years ago, yet he's no longer with us to do anything for this collection.
Aside from Hallet, can't say I'm familiar with the artistic output of any of those names, however.
Titan are seriously on a roll at the moment. This sounds super interesting!
Nice, I love me some art books.
Come on Dennis!
Step 1 brother.
Cool! :)
... scrambles madly to pre-order ....
And 2 novels.
Thank God.
I can confirm that I am a part of this also. And seeing some of these other names, I'm freaking out a little.

Thought so! This pleases me greatly! ;D
I'm hoping to see some of the old legends in here too. Beauvais, Plunkett, Bolton as well please!
Your rightfully up alongside them
Tristan Jones.

100%. If anyone deserves to be involved with this, Tristan is it!
Sounds like the Aliens/Predator: Panel to Panel Book which was great.
The team they have assembled for this is fantastic. Going to be a must-have for sure.
Dorman is involved too! ;D
Gosh, I'm in good company on this one. I also contributed a piece, and the caliber of the creative people involved is crazy! Super humbled!
Welcome to the site! Are you the talent behind this particular piece?

I like that. Really oldschool.
@Corporal Hicks
Thanks! Yep, that one's mine!
Obviously did a new piece for the book and can't reveal it yet, but super excited to see the book come together!
Nice.

Sweet! Is the same sort of style?
@Corporal Hicks
It's a bit different, but still has a bit of that retro flair to it! More gothic and dark in tone though. :)
Sounds cool! I'm so looking forward to this!
Mr Hatton is also involved!
I contributed a piece.
Seeing all these big names are making me hyperventilate, hoping I don't end up on the cutting room floor. So much talent involved! It should be awesome!
So many talented folk on this! Congrats, man!
So how and when can we get our hands on this baby!
October 10th. Usual book places.
Can't wait for it.
Hopefully it doesn't get pushed back.
yeah me too. My birthday is October 15th and this will be on my list lol.
Great coffee table book for Halloween.
Apparently been pushed back to March.
U.S. Amazon still has it listed as releasing Nov 26th
Just ordered this on Amazon. Says release date is August 11,2020
Hope so.
I have my doubts that this will ever see release

Thats encouraging news.
Maybe it will ship on the 11th?
Sounds like!
I am very happy to see that Tristan has a piece in there.
Definitely coming next week. Got a review copy on the way.
Excellent. Really looking forward to this one.
Especially Denis Villeneuve's contribution. 8)

I had no idea that Chris Foss wrote a foreward for this.
I tabbed out of the video once you started showing off a few of the interior pieces, since I want to hold off and see the interior art once I have the book in my hands, but this has me very excited to finally get this one in my hands. 8)
Any favorite pieces of yours that I should be on the lookout for once I get mine in?
I only showed 5 interior pieces during the video, but they were ones I singled out because I really liked. Matt Hatton, Jorge Garza, RJ Palmer, Nathan Anderson and Evan Cagle. There were 2 in here (don't know names off-hand) who committed the cardinal sin of using the AvP Alien publicity still as reference for the Alien though. So big thumbs down to them.

God, I hate that still with a burning passion for still being used as reference on everything and anything to this day. :D

Here's one of the sinners - David Benzal. Another gorgeous piece by Dane Hallet. And two interesting takes by Justin 'Vberkvlt' Bartlett and Marta Lech, showing some of the different styles in the book.
If I never see that stock Alien image again, it will be too soon.
My copy of this should be leaving the facility today. Hopefully I have it before next week. 8)
I'm looking forward to seeing what pieces everyone zones in on! My review should be up tonight, just need to double-check some artists. :)

People use that AvP still for tattoos. I truly don't get it considering there's so many other better stills of better designs.
The fact that it is the first search result when you Google "Xenomorph" certainly doesn't help, I'm sure. But man, like you said, there are so many better designs. Then there's the fact that that design doesn't even make sense outside of the very specific context of the Aliens' creation in Alien: Resurrection. And even then, setting aside the actual quality of the design for a moment, it is just frustratingly sickening seeing the same exact stock promo image used over and over and over again for sixteen years now.
I wound up caving and checking out some of the preview art from the book, since it is probably going to take a little bit longer for my copy to arrive than I thought (Amazon is telling me the 21st). Those Dane Hallett pieces are gorgeous. :o
Yeah that pic drives me crazy too. It's just so popular for some reason.
Filthy casuals...

Mine should be here next week
Just started paging through my copy and loving it so far! I'm at the Mesoamerican Alien and I'm legit considering getting it tatted on me!
Dane Hallet's piece is gorgeous!
RJ Palmer's "Big Chap Finds a Friend" is another incredible piece!

Aren't they just?! Palmer's has to be one of my favourite renditions of Big Chap!

Absolutely! I think Palmer's is my favorite piece out of all of them. Dorman and Tristan's pieces were also really great. Few too many artists used the AVP alien but that's the only negative nitpick of the book. Otherwise I really enjoyed all the different artwork.
I'm about half way through and really enjoying it. Palmers piece is stunning.

Makes me happy seeing people jump in on this. I was really hoping the Covenant Alien would knock the image off its pedestal but alas, no. 16 years later it still reigns supreme.
RidgeTop pointed out another one to me that I missed. Alice Meichi Li used the very front of the head.
Yeah I wasnt impressed with a handful of these that just felt like they were copied from other sources.
A handful were great, a handful were not good, and the rest were good.
Yeah, having seen a bunch of previews now (still waiting on my copy's arrival in the mail), I'm pretty bummed by how many seem to have just been traced from other sources. :-\ I've now seen two different pieces that traced this piece of concept art from Vincent Ward's Alien 3, for example:
There is some really fantastic material in the book. I love what I've seen from Tristan Jones, Dave Hallett, Matt Hatton, and RJ Palmer. I just wish, with this being a celebration of the 40th anniversary and all, there was a bit more effort/quality control put into getting pieces that were actually original from some of the other artists.
I'm not sure that Alvim traced Worrall's piece. The detailing on the body is different. Perhaps the outline? I'd just taken it as inspired by, and actually really loved it.
Perhaps, yeah. That one was absolutely the least offensive of the ones that used other pieces of art, and I do dig the way it was integrated into the new piece. Gave me impressions of the Viper Pit from Alien: Resurrection, which is a visual I've always liked.
There was another one that used that too though, that I really didn't care for. I don't know the pieces name or artist though.
I really liked it because of how it was folded into all the other shapes, very Gigeresque in the way it all blended together. It definitely shouts back to the Viper Pit.
I'll have a gander when I get home. I can't recall any off-hand. I know the same artist had another sketch of that Worrall-ish piece above her text.
Aside from the 2 that I picked on that copied the AvP still, there were probably only another 2 I wasn't really keen on on a technical level. The rest of the art in this I just really loved.
I still haven't seen most of it myself, so I'm really, really excited to get my hands on the book. Just wish Amazon would hurry up! Had the thing pre-ordered since November, and they still didn't have it ready to ship day one. :D
I didn't realize how big it was going to be :D, excellent format and paper quality.
The handful of great ones range from awesome to amazing.

Saw it yesterday at the book store (plastic sealed) and likewise was surprised how large it is.
I think it's about as big as the Blueprints.

Got to pick this up then.
I finally got my copy of the lastest book by TITAN BOOKS "ALIEN 40 years 40 artists". I was lucky enough to be one of the featured illustrators and I wanted to share with you my experience and also show the community what to find in the book.
You can see the inside of the book here: https://youtu.be/Cfy0zo-xGjw
What do you think of this new publishing? ;D
Nice. Quiet reminiscent to Mike Worrall's concept art for Vincent Ward's Alien 3.
Just seen Tristan Jones take on the Lambert/Parker attack in this book... :o

Such a great, and very graphic piece.
It's now what I image when watching that scene.
That looks delicious 8)
Picked this up. Didn't expect it to be as big as what it is. It'll never fit on my shelf. I didn't realise it was mostly commission stuff. Thought the book was going to be official art from the series.
My favourite piece would have to be Marta Alvin's Xenobed. I was just mesmerized by it.
