Hear me out. I was playing the Castlevania Dominus Collection the other day, and I enjoyed it. Furthermore, I was glad that the DS titles were preserved this way instead of falling into obscurity.
This got me thinking. Why not release a (it would take several, to be honest) collection compiling the Alien games of old? How about the AlienĀ³ games? Or even the Capcom AvP game (for those who don't want to spend top dollar for their arcade thingy)? I'm not even thinking Alien Trilogy or Resurrection (although those would be sweet too). If anything, it would be a great way to make them accessible again and free them from the realm of emulators. This concept of preservation brings me to one particular Alien game I hold dear to my heart and which I want to see rescued: Aliens Infestation. You remember that DS game which was supposed to be a tie-in to Colonial Marines, but then arguably ended up being the better game? I like the WayForward stuff, and I like Metroidvania, and Infestation did not disappoint me. But now the game is a over a decade old, the DS is long gone, so my guess is most people have forgotten about it (or never heard of it in the first place). It's a great game, still looks fresh thanks to the nice graphics and the renaissance of pixel art, and it deserves to be remembered IMHO. Taking a cue from the Dominus Collection, Infestation would also lend itself to some nice bonus material, at the least an image gallery presenting the comic-style marine portraits. tl;dr: Aliens Infestation is great, but ROMs are not exactly legal and not really convenient, and I think there's a real chance that this game may become lost. C'mon, if they can release a retro collection of the first Jurassic Park games, then an Alien collection has to be feasible, too, doesn't it?
What do you think? Do you share my feelings about Infestation? What games would you like to see in a hypothetical classic collection?
