After the Auriga incident spurred a secession crisis that led to the fall of the United Systems, Weyland-Yutani quickly reestablished its supremacy through the restoration of Earth through terraforming and the introduction of Drop-Hole technology, which utilized wormholes for instantaneous travel between various star systems of the rapidly-expanding human sphere.
In the following years, the nations of Earth have lost much of their power, and multinational and multi-stellar megacorporations have reasserted themselves as the rulers of Humanity. Although large-scale warfare has been avoided, there is constant strife among corporations and nations, as well as with the many colonies that have been established in the new colonization boom.
In the midst of the chaos, the Colonial Marine Corps stands as Humanity's peacekeeping force, moving among the stars and trying to keep Humanity safe from the dangers of space, and most importantly from itself. And now, on a minor world, the greatest enemy of all has been reawakened; the Alien.
