It has "BRO" feel all over it which I loathe (it even has some electronic music which has breaks which at times resemble brostep), but it showed a lot better graphical assets than the previous ones so it mostly uses the newest (final) build, mostly...

I was really hoping I would be sold on this game by now, but still not convinced. Maybe it's just a poor advertising though, I hope so. How long before a games release do reviews usually appear?

There's only one bad thing about the trailer and thats the dubshit music.

hope this monologue is not in the game, makes it cheesy, almost laughed at like a B category movie or like a action figure commercial and not a horror - action game

everything else looks cool

and the alien at the end is a different one from the others we know already

Post by: Corporate Merc on Jan 24, 2013, 02:51:56 PM
Holy shit that was sick, so we can get in a powerloader and tear shit up and face a queen on foot. I think a rock track wouldve better but that was a solid trailer imo. Wonder what the alien at the end was? Also was that the truck that newts parents drove to the derelect?

Did anyone notice blue dots on the motion tracker?? ;)

And the Raven at the end

Post by: JokersWarPig on Jan 24, 2013, 03:08:13 PM
This needs to be released already...
Music wasn't needed but not bad, not like it was for the Halo 4 game play trailers. THAT was terrible

Tis the Raven at the very end, without green blobs. NICE!
:o THATS WHAT I CALL LIMB REMOVAL!!! NO MORE FRAGS, I MEAN REAL GUTS AND BONE!!!! FINALLY!

Hate to be that guy but I found that pretty meh. In fact the majority of trailers released in the last couple months have served to turn me further off this game one by one, and I really want to love it.    :-\

It's still on preorder though.

AvP 2010 trailers were way better and were so atmospheric... the music was amazing, no dubstep shit.

Post by: Samus007 on Jan 24, 2013, 03:35:29 PM
Well now that was a pretty cool trailer! One thing that was 100% cheesy was the voice over. That was very much like something I would expect to hear from a Syfy channel Sunday morning B movie, not something from Aliens. But then again, the acting in AvP 2010 was pretty terrible so I guess why not this too :(

I'm confident. Gearbox gave us Borderlands.  ;D

Spoiler
And before anyone comes in with "OOOHHH they have us Duke Nukem Forever too!" They only really supervised the project. Duke Nukem Forever sucked before Gearbox became involved.

Gearbox should have never let Duke Nukem release with their name on it. It tarnished the brand, even though they didn't actually 'make' the game. That would be like if Nike released a shoe chewed by a dog then dipped in oil and then burned and sold it as new.

Well I hope he is telling the truth, but for some reason I bet it's from a scene in the game when the person in charge is telling the marines whats going on etc. Similar to the beginning of Aliens only with 100% more cheese.

I turned off the sound. It was a not bad vid then.  Tbh, I can`t be sure wth this game will be like from any of the trailers. sometimes we see some really awesome hi rez visuals, beautiful lighting etc.... and other times we see what looks like water color low rez textures of a more cartoonlike look.  This vid makes me think of brofists and brewskies.  If they wanna inspire me to get this thing, this kinda vid ain`t it. lol

Maybe this was the comic relief vid?

Trailer got me hyped despite the inappropriate music and that god aw full monologue but I'm not going to trash them because both elements are for comercial purposes only, I hope.

Overall, pretty damn good!

"Listen up marines, it's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and i'm all out of gum. So what are you waiting for, breakfast in bed? I plan to rip that Queen bitches head off and shit down her neck, who's with me? OORAH! RAINBOWWWW DAAASSHHHH!!"

I wish we got to hunt down and kill DUB STEP in this game. That stuff is everywhere, and infesting everything.

Also, this trailer does not provide me with an authentic experience. I'm not feeling fear here. I'm feeling... Covered in cheese. (Maybe this is just bio-resin and i'm about to make love to a facehugger)

But hey, I don't mind blowing Aliens away. Lots of aliens.  ;D

I got a very Duke Nukem vibe too. I really thought he was going to say, "Come get some" at one point. Makes me wonder if the other dialog from the story trailer was made for marketing.

Albeit it doesn't really matter. I'm not sure how this is considered pure cheese. Commanders talk that kinda junk throughout history.

"They're on Our Right, They're on Our Left, They're in Front of Us, They're Behind Us; They Can't Get Away from Us This Time."

"I Come in Peace. I Didn't Bring Artillery. But I'm Pleading With You, With Tears in My Eyes: If You f**k With Me, I'll Kill You All."

"Before We're Through With Them, the Japanese Language Will Be Spoken Only in Hell."

Vasquez put an aliens head to the wall of a vent with her foot just long enough to shoot it and get acid on her leg. Not quite the same thing as fighting off an alien that is literally grappling with you.

Hudson, Apone, (presumed) Wierbowski, and others who were physically grabbed by the alien showed basically ZERO ability to get the alien off of them.

Vasquez used her boot to quickly pin an alien's head against the wall in the vents so she could shoot it with her pistol. She paid dearly for that...

"Kick ass and chew bubble gun, and Im all out of bubble gum"

Well ALIENS is a really cheesy written film.

OK, well this isn't cheesy then. This is just shit writing. I'm still going o get the game, it's just reason enough for me to cringe and make a sad face.

The narration is not part of the actual game. It was just a VO for the trailer, nothing more.

Thats what I said.  It was really obvious.

how can u be so sure?
there is a speech scene from the robo legged guy in the game, i fear they cut sentences from that speech and placed in the trailer

The Marine would just grab any large metal object, and simply block and melee the Alien to death...as seen in AvP2010 where your Marine blocks and counter-attacks the Praetorian. These Xenos don't stand a f**king chance!!!!

Seriously, kicking xenomorphs away and grappling with them? WTF?

Yep, just wanted to state that too.

What a BS, that a man can hold off an Alien with bare hands. Cheeesss...

Btw, was that Console or PC material?

They obviously had their head in their pants looking at their fanboy hard in when the xenomorphs in aliens were ripping apart steele doors etc

Not to mention that this game shows them bending doors at will. So much for your own continuity, Gearbox.

Believe it or not there are some fans on the gearbox forums who think it's believable for marines to be wrestling aliens like this. Simply because humans are the most badass dominate race of the galaxy and all.

So I can successfully wrestle a Siberian Tiger and kick its ass because I am the
Most badass species in the galaxy?

Not only that but also wrestle a creature undeniably much more stronger then the before said tiger?

Give me a f***** break, fanboys.

u cant because u aint teh marinez0rz

How long before release do reviews normally come out for games? I really wanna read a couple because at the moment I think it looks awful.

LAUNCH DATE TRAILER:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmFEwPbnW6w#ws (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmFEwPbnW6w#ws)

The launch trailer is a bit confusing.

One get's the impression that they find bodies and perhaps a survivor (cocconed) on board the Sulaco. How exactly is that possible? There was nobody on board the Sulaco until Ripley, Bishop, Newt and Hicks came back on the dropship...and we all know what happened to them in the subsequent film.

I suppose the footage could be taking place down on LV-426 colony...but it sure looks like the beginning scenes are aboard the Sulaco.

And for that matter, what the f@@k is the Sulaco doing still orbiting LV-426? When Alien 3 starts, they were already well under way, before their cryotube/escape pod was automatically jettisoned. In fact, the Sulaco had to be very, very close to Fury 161, as the un-powered escape pod that held Ripley, Bishop, Newt and Hicks was gravitationally pulled in and crashed landed. So, the Sulaco was light years away, in a completely different stellar system.

This makes no sense...unless Gearbox is completely ignoring the existence of Alien 3 as part of the canon. In which case, why would they say at the beginning of the trailer that it has been 17 weeks since Ellen Ripley died.

VERY CONFUSED!!!

EDIT:

Spoiler
Unless, of course, it turns out there was a stow-away (perhaps an android) who brought the Sulaco back to LV-426, for unknown (but to be revealed) nefarious purposes.  Not sure why he/it would wait until the shit hit the fan.  He/it could have done that as soon as Ripley and the survivors went into Cryo Sleep.

Speculation:

A Weyland-Yutani spacecraft docked onto the Sulaco, located the opened egg and began cloning experiments. They got out of control and the things bred with the personnel, who were en route back to LV-426 (still attached to Sulaco) to begin an attempted salvage from you-know-where. A Colonial Marine rescue expedition comes along in response to the original protocol mentioned by Hudson and happen to run into the carnage. In the midst of Alien-related scuffles, things go boom and the ships descend to the planetoid's surface.

Except they don't realise that Weyland-Yutani has already launched a rescue of its own which is on the way.

Hey Deuterium :)

Weyland Yutani falsely reported the Sulaco was destroyed and took it back to LV-426. The marine was hived into the wall because the Sephora sent a first response team aboard the Sulaco before Cpl. Winter comes out of cryo.

Also, gearbox has strongly hinted that Hicks will be alive in A:CM so they have possibly retconned his corpse in Alien3 as some sort of body double. We will find out in a few weeks!

Some very valid points.

BECAUSE REASONS... Uh... err RADIATION. Yeah! The radiation made the Sulaco 180 and orbit LV-426.

See, for the most part I have nothing against the look of the game. In that respect it's pretty much all solid, with just a few little things that bug me. (The multi color motion tracker dots, the hit markers, all that crap.). The problem that really breaks this game for me so far is the writing. It does not add up, and the only ways they can try to stitch all of this together are very contrived and silly.

If the shootings good, and it doesn't script every-single-step of the game? Then I can forgive that. If it's closer to Left-4-Dead than Call of Duty/Halo, i'll be okay. If it is an overly linear experience... I'm out. I'm tired of that.

Hicks. Hudson responded to it with what seemed surprise. "Seventeen days? We're not gonna last seventeen hours. Those things are gonna get in here just like they did before. They're going to come in here and get us!"

Another good theory.  But doesn't this presume that the Queen layed a whole bunch of eggs on the Sulaco (actually, it must have been the dropship)?  Again, as far as this goes, I suppose anything is possible.

Seriously...?
We, Homo sapiens have little to no defensive skills in comparison to other species. Our survival and global dominance are heavily relying on two basic facts, having a large brain and knowledge of how to use a f**king stick so we can beat the living piss out of every living organism on this planet. If you remove the stick from this equation, we are simply smart meat bags! The tiger is a predator and one of the best I might add, we on the other hand have no predatory traits in terms of human physicality.

Class dismissed ;)

A guy on the GAF forums just replied to my question as to why the Sulaco would be orbiting LV-426:

QuoteGearbox said that the ship was programmed to return to the last orbital position in the event of a hull breach/escape pod jettison.

Okay...even though this makes absolutely no sense, whatsoever.  Way to go with the thoughtful writing, Gearbox.   ::)

I certainly make no claims on being an interstellar starship designer.  However, if there were a catastrophic failure / hull breach (yet the ship still has propulsion, navigation and critical automatic systems), I think I might program the ship to send out a distress signal, while making it's way to the nearest Colonial Marine drydock.

Either that, or have it stay in the vicinity of the jettisoned escape pod, especially if no communication can be established between the ship and HQ.

Is this a guess or an official statement? Because Weyland-Yutani should have zero control over a military spacecraft, let alone jurisdiction. They're completely separate. That's the whole point of Ripley's speech to Burke's protests in the APC scene.

Were they a part of the creative team? Because that's a really strange response. Even as protocol, it doesn't make sense - if it's 99% of the way to where it's meant to be heading and has an accident, it would turn around and waste all its fuel to head on back to where it just came from?

Even less sense when taking into the equation that it's a military vessel... What if the reason a disaster happened was because it had only just escaped a war zone? A directive like that would succeed in either its destruction or handing it over to be captured by enemy forces!

Well, i'm a bit of a terrible person when it comes to the comics. I like to look at the pretty art, I don't give a crap about the story most of the time. The original AVP comic, and a few of the individual Alien stories were okay, but that's not what i'd buy a comic book for.

As far as games, it really depends on the game in question as to whether it matters that much or not. The original AVP/Alien Trilogy games didn't fixate on the story nearly as much as games do now. With AvP 99 the story was very rudimentary. Just enough to get you in and through. The atmosphere and gameplay made up for those short comings by giving me some honest chills and scares.

With A:CM the story is right up in your face and dictating very specifically the events you'll experience. If it's stupid, that's going to be directly apparent to the player. I shouldn't be thinking "This is really stupid." I should be thinking "Oh crap! This is scary as Hell!" So it's plot, plotting, and immersion breaking things that are getting in my way, potentially, to enjoy this game.

All true.

But personally, I pretty much got over the "This is stupid" bit a long time ago - despite Gearbox's continued efforts to make it more and more stupid - and am at a point where I just want to get to the shooting (and have a giggle at their appalling writing).

If you bought the game not knowing the story - you might be in for a rude shock.

Dubstepping and brofisting aside, this trailer does get me more excited for the game. The graphics and animations look better. I still noticed the pulse rifle doesn't read 00 when reloading. I think Quintaro's ammo counter said 38 before loading a mag, although its cinematic and not actual gameplay. O'Neal was shown with 01 on his pulse rifle. Maybe he was saving it for himself.

So it's plot, plotting, and immersion breaking things that are getting in my way, potentially, to enjoy this game.
Dude, I don't wanna bust your balls or anything but I'm pretty sure we are not going to get the same horror experience like in Dead Space. More likely a mix of a few jump scares+some tension scenes and the action packed parts, like in the movie itself. Aliens isn't Alien in terms of horror and suspense. Still, I would love to be wrong on this.

Didnt someone hold and alien down with his knee in aliens?

Vasquez put an aliens head to the wall of a vent with her foot just long enough to shoot it and get acid on her leg. Not quite the same thing as fighting off an alien that is literally grappling with you.

Hudson, Apone, (presumed) Wierbowski, and others who were physically grabbed by the alien showed basically ZERO ability to get the alien off of them.

Quote from: Predaker on Jan 24, 2013, 09:22:28 PM
Believe it or not there are some fans on the gearbox forums who think it's believable for marines to be wrestling aliens like this. Simply because humans are the most badass dominate race of the galaxy and all.

Even the supreme bad ass of Yaphet Kotto could not save his character from demise at the hands of an alien.

Still allows to be a bit more plausible though.

As I pointed out, it really doesn't. Anyone who was physically grabbed by an alien has never been shown escaped. Even those trying with every fiber of their being (Hudson even tried to shoot the one that had him as he was going down.)

Kevin escaped.

Kind of.

And there's an argument to made that maybe Hudson got grabbed off screen in the hive.  If he didn't, he still got attacked.

Well, yeah, but that was with the help of two other people, and his wounds were so severe he died within a minute... But okay, if we really want to stretch that. We're working with the premise that a single individual can curb-stomp a xeno like a super-bro-badass and escape easily.

Even if we take that to be true (and it is very possible) the only reason he would have escaped is Hicks and Teh 800|\/| ST1CK.  8)

Though I've always loved and preferred the idea that the reason Hicks was carrying Hudson was that Hudson was essentially shell-shocked/paralyzed with fear from the events taking place/proximity of a living nightmare around him.  (Plus he was the only marine who was essentially totally unarmed to make it that long. That'd take the wind from my sails really quick.)

I'm not sure what to think after seeing this trailer. It looks shallow, hokey and is missing some of the main ingredients of the movie: suspense, dread and terror. This trailer makes the game seem like it's going to be all about being a big badass hero, which doesn't appeal to me.

Problem is they didn't convey that at all, even though it's presumed.

They should have taken notes from the original film trailer, which at least shows a lot of tension and fear going on after Apone's speech.

I remember when the Strouse Bros were on these message boards back before AvP:R came out talking up how they are the biggest fans of the franchises and would not let the fans down blah blah blah. Well that movie ended up being the absoulte best in the entire franchise by a mile. I mean, nothing came close. It really did have the best dialoge and story. Oh, and it was soooo true to the franchise's before it. And lets not forget those amazing soap opera characters!

::)

Why does this game give me that same feeling all over again. That Pitchford is talking it up like he is the biggest fan in the world and wont let any of us down. Then bam, it's AVP:R all over again.

After watching the so called "kick ass" trailer a few more times last night, I just get this feeling of AVP:R and AVP2010 all over again.

Its the same situation like Predator and Predators. They are set in the same universe but you can't say they are connected.

Prometheus is like Alien, as Bladerunner is to Alien.

Very similar ideas and concepts, different universe.

Incorrect. Whether you accept it as canon is a personal choice, but it was clearly intended to share the same continuity.

A similar direction I guess.

Zeeee separate creative license is a life saver.

I apologize for going off topic but it's abundantly clear that Prometheus, whether you like it or not, takes place in the same universe.
Ridley Scott intentionally didn't pursue the idea of a remake or an origin plot for Alien and that's why it's considered as a stand alone movie and not as a prequel to Alien.

As someone else previously pointed out, the cheese monologue+music to appear inauthentic, unnatural and forced. I couldn't agree more, especially when we take a closer look at Aliens, there are no cheese lines except for the ones of Hudson but that was an essential element of his character, being a smart ass and goofball.

Hi guys

I am, as all of you, greatly awaiting the second week of february to get my hands on A:CM...

Unlike some of my fellow mates here, I have other concerns regarding this game, especially the fact that a nuclear detonation would not only destroy the entire Hadley's HOpe compound, as it is just less than 5 kms from the Processing Station, it would also create an electromagnetic pulse that would destroy all the electrical and electronical devices, assuming, of course, that the power did not come from a power station outside of Hadley's... ALso, the entire Sulaco thing... Sulaco, at this point, was going on it's way to Earth, minus Ripley's EEV and the Fiori !61 incident... So, how in the world is it orbiting LV-426?!? Also, how on earth did the Alien Queen get on board? Was there more than two alien huggers on the Sulaco, one being Ripley's 'child'...?! I think the story is the first thing that does not make sense to me in this game... BUT wouldn't it be cool to see the HIve and find Apone, Dietrich, Hudson coccooned!! I know, the image rights would have cost a pile of dough, but nevertheless, it would be cool...

So, I am hoping here that my doubts will be dissipated by the game... I am a bit concerned about the sound of this game, and the apparent inability of the shotgun to kill an Alien without three or four direct hits...!

I must say though that the graphics look cool!

OH, that Berserker Alien from the Gameplay trailer? A stupid idea! Plain and simple! why, oh why, would there be a 'Bull Alien'...!? That made me sigh big time!

Of course, I will buy the game, being a huge Alien fan that I am, and I have been starving for another game since the semi-letdown of the AVP game...

Cheers!

PS - Just came to me: the HIve was UNDER the Processing Station, which went KABOOOM! HAHAHAHAHA Oops...

What's wrong with needing 3-4 hits with the shotgun to kill a xeno? If anything the damage it can take should be increased.

Because it just took Hicks ONE to blow a Xeno's head off! It would make sense with a sidearm and even a Pulse rifle, but a SHOTGUN at close range?! Nope IMHO...  ;D

Yeah, I am hoping that the damage location system is not gonna stink...  :D

Ok, so Hick's example was not a good one... But a shotgun at close range is supposed to make more damage than it was shown...!

we'll see come February 12th...

Yeah, but the barrel was in its mouth. Doesn't really apply to the effectiveness of the exoskeleton.

Assuming the shotguns in A:CM are firing buck and not slug, there's no way in Hell you can compare the penetration capability of a shotgun to that of a rifle. Especially a rifle with the stats that the pulse rifle has. It fires large caliber round that is tipped with an explosive cap. By FAR that would be more devastating to an alien (as we saw in the movie even).

Actually if you watch the movie you can see Hicks fire at what seems to be a single Target near Hudson. It's when we're seeing the camera view during the hive battle. Hicks says "Hudson look out!" and Hudson says "Get it!" We then see Hicks fire off three shots (I believe) at a single target before he seems to be satisfied that it is downed (the alien screams.)

I agree, with the exception of mid to long range shots, then it's plausible.

Yes, but this doesn't mean they are connected. Prom takes place on different planet, not LV-426, its set in different time line, its about different characters and different species. Its the same situation like Predator and Predators. They are set in the same universe but you can't say they are connected.
Plot-wise they aren't connected, but they're connected by sharing the same universe and a lot of the same conventions. The Space Jockeys/Engineers and their horseshoe ships, cryosleep, androids that bleed white, Weyland, the Deacon. Their plots don't have to explicitly link to one another in order to be "connected". 'Predators' references the first movie more than 'Predator 2' references the first movie, and yet no one hesitates in saying that 'Predator' and 'Predator 2' are "connected".

If you want to count the EU as canon (and I know plenty of people don't, and that's okay), the universes were linked in the comics before they got linked in 'Predator 2'. In fact, Stan Winston included the skull in 'Predator 2' as a nod to the popular AvP comics that were running as the movie was being made.

The EU has a lot more "crossover" between Alien and Predator, too - you'll have standalone Aliens or Predator stories that will end up featuring characters that later show up in AvP comics and whatnot, etc. Hell, the videogame 'Predator: Concrete Jungle is chock-full of Alien "universe" references while still being a standalone "Predator" game, and finally includes an Alien creature cameo in one level near the end.

The skull has always been an interesting feature... But there are conflicting accounts as to whether it was put in there as a nod to the comics or something completely different. Some people have given quotes which show they assumed it was, but I don't think we've ever got the identity of the person who actually made it and why.

Even Stan Winston said he had no idea and suggested the idea arose on set, not from the comics.

As has been said before, that scene is extremely ambiguous. We don't see the results. Nor do we know that an Alien scream means 'I'm dead/injured', any more than a cat's hiss does. It might be their version of a louder warning or even a distraction for flanking.

Hicks either kills it or it's moved into the shadows and he can't see it to continue shooting at.

Pulse rifles have HEAP ammunition, designed for armoured targets (although, it needs to be said that several have to strike an Alien before getting a pressurised explosion). No on-screen indication as to what Hicks' shotgun fired, but there's no reason to assume it's the same stuff. Especially when we see handgun rounds ricocheting off the things in a later scene.

The most common story is that Stan Winston put it there because of the comics, and for a long time he said he didn't remember who did it or why, but eventually said something to the effect of "Huh yeah if all these other people are saying it was me, it probably was me and I just don't remember it".

I've got that original interview, yeah. He didn't do many more before he passed away, if memory serves right. He genuinely had no recollection of it having anything to do with comics. Seemed to think they came up with it while they were making the film.

If i'm not mistaken, that structure which is behind a slab of rock (not to be mistaken for being built within it) looks to be a huge cylindrical shape at one end that looks man made. there's no indication that its a ship but the  compartments appear to taper and keep goinglength wise as if it were like the the ship Sulaco or the Sephora but it could just be a man made structure.
I doubt any of these details will be revealed until release. Good observation iKarop!

It's just a remix of a song using strange and electronic sounds.

Wrong.
A big portion of it are remixes of original songs though.

While I do in fact dislike dubstep, I adore the trailer. Including the voice over. Remember, Hudson's little speech before they deployed was extremely similar.

I find it funny that you parade around this forum, treating your opinions like fact. You need to get used to the idea that some people are going to disagree with you. You don't like it, and that's fine, but your opinion is no more valid than anyone else's.

I've observed SM for a lonnng time. He may be abrasive at times, but he never is so presumptuous as to assume his opinion on something is fact. He assumes the people around him are smart enough to know the difference. The fact that it's him saying it should be indicative enough that it's his opinion.

After all, he didn't say "Science proves..." or anything. (Though that would be friggin funny  :D )

Bro, what's in the trailer was brostep, it has nothing to do with dub.

Yeah right, brostep is sub-genre of dubstep.

1.
G-Funk is sub-genre of rap.
G-Funk = rap.
Rap rox.

2.
Brostep is sub genre of dubstep.
Brostep = dubstep
Dubstep rox.

... And some of us would just like an actual attempt at the tension and fear of the movies transferred into the dynamics of a game. the dynamics part being the area of emphasis. The reason this game won't be as good as it could have been for me simply comes down to the over use of scripted sequences and over linearity. AVP 99 was linear, but the AI was basically set loose in the halls to do as it wanted. With the improvements in computer power, and what we've learned of AI in the decade plus change since then, I can only imagine what that same kind of scenario could allow aliens to do.

Every so often, someone reinvents a game mechanic which was around in the 1980s/1990s and pronounces it as inventive and genius, when it's actually stuff which should have just become standard, way back then.

Man, I remember how innovative stuff like 'Chuck Yeager's Air Combat' used to be... Makes me feel strangely old to realise how most people on the Internet have never even heard of it.

Then again, I got to witness the glorious cinematic triumph of Luke Skywalker fighting it out with Bagpuss in 'Wing Commander 3', too.

Same here, although it remains to be seen how A:CM will turn out.

On this, i'm pretty certain that as far as the campaign is concerned, and Co-Op aside, it'll be more COD than Left 4 Dead, which is sad to say, honestly.

I mean if the multiplayer mode is good, I won't care. 'Evac' looks excellent.
