From what i read SEGA put 60 million into making this game (not sure if that's true). I can't believe that this game with it PS2 like graphics and bad game play cost more than three times what the Aliens film cost to make. And if this is true how much of that 60 million went to Borderlands 2 cause there can be no way they spent that on this game.

It's not three time the price ALIENS cost.
There's inflation... a reason for which AVATAR is not the biggest seller but Gone with the Wind is.

But yeah it is a shame they spent so much on a beta that I feels like even amateurish could have made in 6 years of development.

I've seen $65 mil quoted a few places, though that seems to include marketing as well. This games been marketed up the wazoo, I'd expect perhaps $10mil there alone.

What's $60 mil in real money nowadays anyway? Maybe 50p? :P

Do we know how big Rebellion's budget was for AvP?

I'd laugh if it were half than ACM's budget.

Think I remember seeing £15 million (~$22 million, ish) knocking around at the time of release, but you can't quote me on it. I also can't find any reliable sources using my google-fu.

yes i know about inflation still its a lot of money for such a crappy looking game. Well look at District 9 that was made in 2008/9 for half the price of this game (30 million). Only question is did Michael Biehn get paid more for Aliens or ACM?

That includes marketing. SEGA spent a shitload on marketing, including render assets and many many MANY primetime ad venues. SEGA did not spend even half of that on the game proper. the game is around 20-23 million, the rest is marketing.

Theres a rumor most of it went into Boarderlands 2. SEGA could potentinal put gearbox into a heap of s**t legally if that were true.

Umm no. Marketing on tv for weeks costs a f**kload more money than 10 million dollars. Hell the AMC walking dead block alone was probably 10 million dollars by itself.

A very small booth at the E3 (4 to 7 people, one public small stage and one private small stage) is something around 100 000$. But if you're planning to do LAN or such things you have to pay extras for connection network and such (usually around 10 000$ for a few computer)
I let you do the maths for A:CM.

(Don't quote me exactly but that's how it is actually in some showcase salon in France and I bet E3 is kind of a big event that is probably even more expansive).

I think this is where the problem lies, I bet Gearbox rushed the rest of Aliens colonial marines after they finished BL2.
That's what you get when you don't concentrate on the one game.
Just a thought :-\

Having some working knowledge of the film industry, that's my view, too: Lots on marketing and factoring in that this wasn't all in one go. It's spread out over several years.

Big titles like this are approached in a very similar way as financing movies, these days and that includes ridiculously expensive advertising methods.

A big reason behind why viral marketing can be so appealing... When done right, it can be cheap.

Alot would've have gone on Marketting and licencing. Its $60 million, total bugdet for the title. Which is something that should considered when trying to objectively view this game.
