Amy has always been short for Amanda.

For example, my unborn daughter is named Ellen. After Ripley. We call her "Ellie Belly" right now, and Ellie is likely going to stick when she's born.

oh megawd, that is so stinking cute... Congratulation's Maw!

This is really embarrassing.....

We're all allowed to make mistakes and I don't know exactly how old you are, but my goodness, review these "faults" again..

They made 'mistakes', yes. But since they were getting professionally PAID by the developers and WE shelled out £50 it should've done better.

People here slate  the makers of The Predator, Covenant, Resurrection etc so why can't I slate Isolation? I suppose you think Black/Dekker made forgivable 'mistakes' on The Predator, eh?

FIRST FAIL:
In Aliens: Special Edition when speaking to Burke, Ripley refers to her daughter as "Amy", NOT Amanda.

2ND FAIL:
Ripley promised her daughter she'd be home for her 11th birthday. Obviously this was important to Amanda. So WHY was this not acknowledged in Ripley's private message to Amanda in the game??!!! Ripley just says, "I'm sure I'll see you real soon." What she should have said was, "I hope I can still make your birthday". This would have been a great way to connect the game to the film even more.

We don't know when Amy's birthday falls in relation to when Ripley was sending the message. On top of the sheer desperation of the moment.

I don't think it's optimistic at all at the end of Alien. It's bittersweet. It's a question mark. The whole movie they were taking their chances in the shuttle and how risky it would be. They're not just down the street from Earth, they're a long way off. ten months away with the Nostromo and her powerful engines. Who knows what the actual range of the shuttle is or how fast it can go compared to an M-Class Star Freighter?

She may have been expecting to be stuck out there for longer than ten months. In which case her birthday was no go.

3RD FAIL:
PLUS in Alien , Ripley optimistically says in the final scene, "with a little luck, the network will pick me up." She had no doubt she would be saved and yet in her message to Amanda in the game she sounds emotional like she's worried she'll never see her again.

Bruh, she's talking to her daughter in the message. She's a little emotional. She's not guarded. She's not professional. She's a wounded woman who is reaching out to her daughter, because she literally just lived through the worst thing in her life and all the fears and insecurities that come with that.

The real plot hole created by the game is why Ripley wouldn't have been trying to contact Sevastopol Station since it was the largest outpost in the region and it was literally right there behind her in the system she just left. The station was also going strong back in the roaring 2120's, they even got old flight record data relayed through their communication buffers transmitted before the ship left Thedus . But c'est la vie, we can only theorize.

Hmm. I've never thought of that. Good point

In the director's cut of Aliens, Burke states the name as Amanda Ripley McLaren.  To which Ripley responds with "Amy".  So on that account, it's spot on.

also, for the "third fail," i think it's realistic that she'd be more emotional in general when leaving a recording for her daughter, as opposed to the recording at the end of alien

Yeah, I don't know man, I don't think those are fails. Amy is a nickname for Amanda and the side trip that diverted the Nostromo to LV-426 added an unexpected 10 months to their journey which probably meant she'd be showing up too late for the party, she just never expected it to be 57 years too late. and it sounds like she had a little bit of doubt regarding when or if she'd get picked up since she just fought an alien, blew up her own ship and was floating all alone in a dingy in the middle of nowhere light years off course from their original flight plan, hence the need for a little non guaranteed luck.

The real plot hole created by the game is why Ripley wouldn't have been trying to contact Sevastopol Station since it was the largest outpost in the region and it was literally right there behind her in the system she just left.
