how does this game look in the multiplayer?  do you get marines constantly trying to switch teams to be a xeno or something?  or is the game balanced well enough marines don't mind playing as marines?

Team switching is nonexistent. Multi player is fun...that is until you get the cowardly kamikaze suicide rupture noobs showing up everywhere. No honor.
