Looks interesting. It'll probably be a beast to run on any pre-2007 PC though.
I'd like to see an MMO with servers divided not by nation, but by language. Especially since I'd like to be able to play with people living stateside. The nerds over in the USA are of a higher standard than the ones we get over here, and European RPing in this game will no doubt be as bad as it was in WoW.
Basically, I think more people in the US have respect for the Star Wars universe, and I believe they'd offer a better Rp server than Europe does.

Yeah, I have a lot of love for SW. I really want this game bad. Can't wait. Galaxies is only here to occupy my time, but it's only OK. I'm hoping that LucasArts will tell BioWare when they're dojng something that won't work. And Kris, a lot of people have been complaining about the pictures. BioWare stated that they're still developing it, and that they'll make it a lot sleeker. I have faith in them, 'cos they make some pretty kick-*** games.
I've decided I won't be getting this one. Don't feel like playing another MMO at all.
Give me KOTOR 3 any day over what will inevitably be far less satisfying: a.k.a: This game.

First MMO ever that interests me, mostly because it's BioWare and that the story is one of the important things in this game. And because it's Star Wars. ;D
This game is beginning to look VERY good...im liking the classes and planets that are being shown at the moment like Nal-Hutta (planet) Smuggler, bounty hunter,trooper and Sith warrior. The graphics look awesome, and they even said its not going to be as demanding as world of warcraft so should work on most computers that dont have a crap grahics card, etc. It sure looks like its going to be wayyy better than galaxies...I played a trial for that game and it was utterly confusing, I didnt like the interface it seemed like such an outdated game..and im a die-hard star wars fan so. I probably will be a bounty hunter first over anything else for many reasons. >.< What about you guys? What are you excited about? What classes, planets, etc, are you looking forward to seeing. How do you like the progress of the game so far?
It's the only MMO I've ever actually been interested in and willing to spend money on. I'm definitely getting this.
What I like about it is that the story is such a big part of the game. Bioware has made great RPG's with great stories. And it just looks damn awesome. And it's Star Wars. :D
Anyway, I really like the Sith Warrior. But everyone will probably play this so I guess I'll start with Bounty Hunter or smuggler. But I just have to visit Korriban with it's tombs. And I'm definitely going to be evil. If I want something, I want it right away! ;D

Well if we know them right they will be to greedy with money and want us to first pay then pay to play ........ i bet it will go that way ..... and if it does that i wont get this game for sure.
I hope it will be 'pay to play' but not as high as current MMO's. Let's say go down from 15$ to 8$ per month. Somehow you have to cover the whole maintenance costs and the 24/7 support.
And it won't be 'pay then pay to play'. You always get one month free to play after you buy the game.

I love story in a game, especially a multiplayer one because we don't really have a lot of massively multiplayer games that can immerse you in a story like a single player game. WoW gets boring quick if you care about in-depth stories and character relations, I think. But, the combat in The Old Republic looks so five years ago. The choreographed lightsaber battles are eye-candy, but I can't help wondering how much is your actual input and how much you just watch...
The gun battles are just as idiotic as they've always been in RPGS, where 2 characters stand in the open and shoot each other 45 times before one's health bar runs out. It's like the opposite of realistic combat, but for the sake of the game I may tolerate it.
Thoughts on combat system??
KOTOR's horrific, quasi turn-based combat system was the only thing keeping me from enjoying the damn game, and since SWTOR is using a similar system I unfortunately won't be bothering with it.
I'll definately be giving this a go when it releases, or sooner if I can get into beta when it starts.
I'm hoping being a bioware game and it having been in production for about 5 years it will have decent quality to it. You normally cant go wrong with bioware.

If you want a competitive game, then sure, skill is important. But when it's single player, it's about fun. I don't care about my skill level in an RPG because I'm just there to get immersed and see some cool shit.
Oh, and by the way, Bioware turn-based RPGs do take skill. I don't know how they measure it, but I got my ass handed to me when I tried to play on Nightmare in Dragon Age: Origins.

I was excited when I heard about this game but the look of the game doesn't make me feel I'm playing Star Wars at all.
Give me a Star Wars game that really makes me feel I'm in the movies and build on it something edgy. For example AVP Gold, AVP2, AVP3 and ACM looked like you were in the Alien and Predator films, this game right here...
I don't remember Star Wars looking like that. Battlefront 2 on the other hand for PC man, I felt like I was in the original and newer Star War films combined. Force Unleashed? Wonderful idea but somehow failed. I guess what I'm trying to say is I'm still waiting for a solid Star Wars game. Republic Commando is another example, wonderful idea, but somehow failed.
Just my opinion.

Unfortunately it seems to be the opposite case with the Republic's 4th class, Smuggler. Certainly in my guild we are a little short. Gameplay should be pretty balanced after all the beta testing though.
One of the few(very few), things I didn't like about KOTOR was the whole "wearing crap all over your face for extra attributes" schtick. In a couple of those shots it looked like they kept it, maybe.
Still so on the fence... which is a shame because I'm a mouth-breathing Star Wars fan. That WOW style of gameplay, so hideous and dated after all of these new games... *coughskyrim.. cough*

I've been playing it since early access, and personally i think it's fantastic. It feels like a Bioware Single Player game, with all the quality voice acting, and quests, and gameplay, but that you can play with friends as well. Glad to have a MMO wheretheres actually a proper story, rather than in WoW's case, wheres its a bunch of random quests. The proper multiplayer instances and stuff are great as well, especially with how they handle conversations and the like, with each of the 4 players selecting a choice, and with the decision being randomly picked.
For the record im a Level 18 Jedi Consular/Shadow, just got my ship now as well.

I want to play this but I don't think my laptop could handle it. I played WAR for about a year and it was ok on my machine. But, I don't think I have the time to justify paying to play it at the moment.
Just noticed this thread and thought I would put in my opinion. I'm currently playing a level 45 Jedi Sage.
I know many compare it to WOW which, this being my first MMO, doesn't affect me but I can see how many find the gameplay a little too similar if they are ex WOW or other MMO players. Personally I really like how combat works, and especially at a higher level you really need strategy with your companion when doing it SP, or with teammates if in a group. After clocking roughly 40 hours in Skyrim, I actually prefer the combat in SWTOR; to me there is more variation and it feels more rewarding.
Of course, the story is what I came for, and I'm very impressed by the voice-acting effort gone into it. If you're a large Star Wars fan like me, this is the closest possible to immersing yourself in the Star Wars universe. The graphics are actually growing on me; granted their not great, but the sheer size of some of the planets (this really surprised me) makes up for it. Plus the Taral V flashpoint to me looked gorgeous. Doing a 4 group mission in a forest at night, that then takes you to a Imperial Holding facility with a great story to boot? That's what keeps me playing.

Completing the story arc with the Taral V also rewards you with meeting Revan again, and you see his proper face and hear his dialogue for the first time in the Star Wars canon. For a player of KOTOR and having played Revans path, it was gratifying as hell.
Overall, I highly recommend it. The fact that I've all but cast aside titles I love like Skyrim and Battlefield 3 must count for something.

The monthly pay games are a pain, but it's been like that with MMOs for awhile now, server costs and things, I've read.
Thanks for the opinions, DragonBossk. I wouldn't really play this game for the gameplay, much more for the story, immersion, and interaction with other players, but it sounds like they really nailed those things. That's great! Nice to hear about the graphics, too, as they were seriously putting me off.
I've played many games with sub-par graphics that were great, though, so I'm really not one to judge a book by its cover when it comes to that... Even though I bitch plenty about it before hand :D

This was the first game I ever considered paying monthly for, first and foremost for having a Star Wars setting and story developed by good ol' Bioware. I didn't buy Star Wars Galaxies, but that was probably as I didn't have a full time job to afford it at the time, after all I was only 13 when it came out.
Like most MMOs, you can unsubscribe after any month, so the big question on every players' lips right now is will the post endgame content be worth subscription renewal. Bioware followed through with a good launch, I'm sure they can prove themselves again with new content too.
Another good point to consider in a game like this, where you will most likely be investing 100+ hours and just as many dollars easily. Though I never got to post-endgame in WOW (Level 15, bawhaw) I know a lot of players found that really important and I can see why.
i have played this only on last beta test and it was amazing. i liked the story and gameplay. after playing wow all mmos was too bad for me but this one was great. but i will never pay each month for a game, i hope there will be some free servers :)

F2P is pretty good move. I still play TOR now and then,i enjoy it. I only play single player stuff and a few guild things anyway,never big on pvp.
This will definitely help the game. TORtanic was sinking and this will probably make it float, like the F2P model has done before to other MMORPGs.

So, I hear about this game in early 2011. Think it'll be good. Find out it's not going to be released in Australia until February 2012, which is disappointing so I pre-order it from Amazon. I get early-access the week before the game's December 2011 release and proceed to sit around and download 20GB of what appears to be voice-acting files, plastered onto a sub-par MMO. Play game for a few days, discover just how dull and repetitive it is. A $300 million dollar game budget spent on a crappy engine and loads and loads of unnecessary voice-acting (where some lengthy explanation is given for every fetch-quest or 'kill 10 of these guys' quest), marred by technical issues up the wazoo. I go to cancel my preorder but the thing's already shipped, so now the game's sitting on my shelf gathering dust (I couldn't be bothered trying to return it). I haven't touched it since the early-access period.
I'm not surprised this game has gone Free-to-play (or 'F2P', which is the hip way of saying that now). I've been playing Star Trek: Online recently and for all of it's flaws, I'm actually enjoying it way more than I did The Old Republic. What's amusing is how EA keep trying to paint this game's failure in a positive light, typical PR spin. Now I know why the idiots on 4chan called this game the 'TORtanic'.

My computer is a 4 year old computer that was never meant for gaming. If you are slightly lower, the same, or above these specs you should be able to run it easily.

That's actually a fairly reasonable spec. The Core 2 Quads were a fantastic series, if you beast it up with the ram and graphics card then you can still run any of the latest games.

Even the ram isn't bad. On my old Q9300 system I could run AvP3 and Skyrim at near-max details with just 4gb DDR2, though admittedly I upgraded to a GeForce 670 last year (but it could still run AvP3 at decent settings on the previous Radeon 5770).

I am level 50 sith assassin,Shadow is level 30. And I have an Agent lvl 12 aswell as my alt.
I personally don't think levels should matter in the big picture. Veps always helps me out when I need him to do Heroic Missions...which are f**king insane. You ever need help on those (which you most likely will) give us a call. Although being in a group will cut down on the EXP. - only reason to do heroic missions are for the EXP. award and the cash you get when you accomplish the mission, and the f**king awesome equipment you find along the way in each on. Definitely do the missions for these three awards:
