Noomi Rapace has said that Sigourney Weaver was a "heroine" to her when she was growing up.

The actress has been cast as Elizabeth Shaw in Ridley Scott's upcoming Alien spinoff movie Prometheus and admitted to being inspired by Weaver, who played Ripley in the original series.

Talking about Weaver at this week's Elle Style Awards, the Girl With The Dragon Tattoo star told DS: "She was a heroine for me in my childhood and my teenage years."

She added of the project: "It's fantastic, the script is amazing and Ridley is incredible, so I can't wait to start.
