A video about Alien's weirdly hypnotic opening scenes;

I always enjoy his videos and this was another well though out one.

Really like this interpretation of foreshadowing between the two scenes.

I've always thought that the little elephant toy was a foreshadowing of the space jokey. And given Scott's background in commercials and making visual connections and whatnot, it wouldn't surprise me if it was all intentional on his part  8)

Love Rob Agers film analysis. I've seen Alien hundreds of times from Betamax to 4k and even recently in the cinema BUT I've never notice that Elephant before.

SiL

It's an interesting interpretation, but he misses the more obvious explanation:

It immerses us into the world in a visually engaging manner.

"Surely there must be more to it than just showing us the interior of the ship!"

There really doesn't?

SM

The ultimate 'show don't tell'.

426Buddy

Fun analysis, I can see the symmetry but don't think it was intentional.

SiL

Also the wankiness of "You can say I'm wrong and just watch the film with absolutely no mental engagement if you want, I guess" is just super go-f**k-yourself levels of condescending.

SM

He says that?  I was actually going to give this a look, but if it's that kind of stuffy wank I might give it a miss.

4:30 in. "If you think I'm overanalyzing, ok, you can just go enjoy the movie in the no intellectual challenge simplistic level only, if that's your preference. But the long drawn out first five minutes of this movie ... you've got to admit, there's got to be something more going on here than just showing us shots of the hallways of the Nostromo."

Right. Look, if you want to eat and enjoy a toast, without knowing the hidden messages in the slice of bread,  good for you.  ::)

Elmazalman

The out-of-focus object bouncing behind the emergency helmet, always reminds me of a cobra snake with its hood displayed, ready to strike.

I've watched a few of his things. Some of them are quite good, like " The Thing" ones.

He does have a tenancy to go too far though, I'm usually like - " oh that's cool......mmmm, maybe not that though"
