Quote from: JustaGrunt11/14/13 UPDATE

As many of you know, the media push has officially begun and we have shared the petition with several different gaming journalists across the internet.

Since the PS4 is getting a lot of coverage today, tomorrow, and throughout the weekend, we are hoping that petition-related coverage will begin to roll out in the coming weeks, as gaming journalists get a chance to cover more stories outside of the PS4 and Xbox One launches.

Even so, I encourage everyone to keep an eye on the page views for this thread, as we have provided the media with this thread link, and it is quite possible that the amount of viewing activity will receive a spike in the days and weeks ahead.

For example, when we were beginning the media push, we were around 17,000 page views, and I believe we are already at about 18,000 at the time of this posting.  So if you are interested in gauging the amount of interest, I recommend following the page views, and looking for any additional signatures that may be coming from the journalists themselves, while they are researching and preparing their stories.

Other than that, I do believe that we are in the final stretch of our last stand, everyone.  Hopefully with media coverage spread throughout this month and the next, in a perfect world, the petition will gain enough momentum to help convince the powers-that-be (20th Century Fox & Sega) to authorize one last round of Bug Hunt DLC.  If we are successful, I hope that we will receive an announcement of Bug Hunt DLC by the New Year, possibly with a release in March to celebrate the one-year anniversary of Bug Hunt, and to bring about the official retirement of Aliens: Colonial Marines (A:CM).

Other than that, I would like to extend my deepest thanks to everyone who has helped make this petition possible, and to everyone in the community who continues to support us.  I would also like to express my heartfelt thanks to all the Bug Hunt developers who have helped us along our journey, and are continuing to stay abreast of all our latest developments here.  Just the other day, I received a wonderful e-mail from one of the developers, which assures me that our posts ARE being read, everyone.  As such, while the fate of Bug Hunt on current gen systems hangs in the balance, I encourage everyone to feel free to express your thoughts and well wishes to the Bug Hunt team that made this all possible.  I assure you that developers are lurking, and you may be happy to know that one even shed a tear of joy at the Armageddon-inspired speech I shared a few posts back.

I share this to remind everyone that these are very real people who love the franchise and are absolutely blown-away every time they see that their work is appreciated by the very people they made it for. Trust me, when I heard how they were geeking out while watching Shev's "Tribute to Tribute" together, it just touched my heart to realize that, regardless of what side of the fence we are on, they are us and we are them.  We are all fans who want what's best for this franchise, and even though there may be missteps along the way, it's great to see when we have real fans on the inside working on our behalf, and giving us great experiences like Bug Hunt on Tribute.

So with all that being said, I would like to salute all the fans, all the developers, and especially all those with clout who read this posting, and can help us go on one last bug hunt.  That's what I would like for Christmas this year - a Bug Hunt announcement for myself and the rest of the community.  Until then, if you all encounter any petition-related articles either on websites or via Facebook postings, please do whatever you can to steer those discussions in a positive direction, and remind people that there's a horde mode that deserves a second chance.  Tell 'em it's called Bug Hunt and that for at least one fan who was waiting for an A:CM game since the EA announcement in May 2001, it was worth the wait.

20TH CENTURY FOX/SEGA/GBX/DEMIURGE:
Please give us more A:CM content (Bug Hunt), or the tools to develop content (full sdk). We'll give you $$$ in return. Simple.

[UPDATED NOVEMBER 13TH, 2013]

BIG UPDATES!

This last weekend I had the chance to chat with Dave Flamburis, formerly of Demiurge, who was the Lead Artist who worked on Bug Hunt! I asked him a series of fan friendly questions! Read the interview here at AvPGalaxy:
http://www.avpgalaxy.net/games/aliens-colonial-marines-sega/interview-dave-flamburis-demiurge-studios-bug-hunt/

Thanks to JustaGrunt who prepared the excellent questions, and thank you to Dave for taking the time to speak with me, and also HUGE thanks to AvPG for hosting the interview!

As a bonus, Dave has written an incredible "Dev Diary" on the making of the Bug Hunt favourite map "Tribute", which you can read on his Wordpress site here:

We have emailed close to 70 gaming sites today asking them to help us make a last stand for More Bug Hunt!

Hopefully we can start seeing some stories pop up in the next few days.

I know some of you might be worried about competing with the Juggernaut PS4 and the XBOX One releases, but I believe we reached out to a good variety of smaller websites. I have good faith!

Here is a copy of the email we sent out:
QuoteGame Title:  ALIENS: COLONIAL MARINES [Multiplatform:  Xbox 360, PS3, PC]

Game Licensor: 20th Century Fox

Game Publisher:  SEGA

Game Developers:  Gearbox Software / Demiurge Studios

Hi!

My name is Melissa K., or known on many forums and gaming sites as "Moosh" or "Moosh89".  You may remember back in 2012 when I led a petition for ALIENS: COLONIAL MARINES to include Playable Females in the game's Multiplayer modes.  We managed to get over 4,000 signatures thanks to widespread media coverage, as well as thanks to many actors of the 1986 blockbuster film who pledged their support by signing the petition, which included Jenette Goldstein (Pvt. Vasquez), Cynthia Scott (Cpl. Dietrich), Colette Hiller (Cpl. Ferro), Ricco Ross (Pvt. Frost), William Hope (Lt. Gorman), Trevor Steedman (Pvt. Wierzbowski), and Daniel Kash (Pvt. Spunkmeyer).

Back in February of this year, both gamers and journalists alike were disappointed with the release of ALIENS: COLONIAL MARINES.  For several different reasons, the game failed to live up to most people's expectations, and, as a result, it was universally panned by critics.

What many people missed, however, is the contributions of Demiurge Studios, who developed and released an amazing horde mode called "BUG HUNT" after the game's launch.  Since BUG HUNT was released as DLC, it was NOT included in the game's original reviews, and there are still many, many people who are unaware of this hidden gem, or redeeming aspect, of ALIENS: COLONIAL MARINES.  This is why I am calling on the media to help me spread awareness for a new petition I have created for one last wave of BUG HUNT.  The petition already has hundreds of signatures from people around the world, the approval of an actor from ALIENS, and support from Demiurge Studios!

- LINK to Petition: https://www.change.org/petitions/sega-of-america-corporation-gearbox-software-demiurge-studios-please-release-additional-bug-hunt-dlc-for-aliens-colonial-marines

- What is Bug Hunt?
Bug Hunt is an objective based horde mode that allows up to four players to battle increasingly difficult waves of enemies in the same vein as other fan-favorite horde modes, such as those found in the Call of Duty or Gears of War game franchises.  It allows players to:  (1) play in iconic settings featured in James Cameron's Aliens film, like the Hadley's Hope colony on LV-426; (2) use iconic weaponry and gadgets featured in James Cameron's Aliens film, such as the pulse rifle, smartgun, motion tracker, etc.; (3) play as a customized Marine, or as characters from the film, as  Hicks, Hudson, Apone, or Drake; and (4) battle against H.R. Giger's classic movie monster, the alien xenomorph, which was voted as one of the most memorable movie villains by the American Film Institute.

- Why Demiurge Studios?
Demiurge Studios is an independent video game developer who developed the BUG HUNT horde mode that many people argue is the best part, and saving grace of ALIENS: COLONIAL MARINES.  Demiurge Studios has lent its support to the petition with several developers providing their signatures.  Demiurge has expressed that working on BUG HUNT was a labor of love, and judging from their work, many fans most definitely agree.

- Why is Bug Hunt so important?

For ALIENS fans, the BUG HUNT horde mode is arguably the best way to re-live the action-packed, adrenaline-filled rush from James Cameron's epic science fiction film.  As you know, horde modes are still a very popular feature in video games, which can be evidenced by its inaugural outing in Infinity Ward's Call of Duty: Ghosts, which, coincidentally, includes a horde mode with aliens.  However, BUG HUNT remains special because the horde mode in Ghosts does NOT have the Aliens license and, as such, cannot provide any of the distinctive elements from the Alien franchise.

- What is this BUG HUNT petition all about?

Our BUG HUNT petition is primarily aimed at 20th Century Fox and Sega of America, as they have the authority to authorize one last wave of content by Demiurge Studios. The petition has been written by fans, for fans, who are hoping to have Demiurge Studios provide us with more of what we liked.

At the time of this letter, WITHOUT any major media attention, we have already surpassed over 380 signatures, representing interested gamers from all over the world.  As previously mentioned, developers from Demiurge have signed the petition, and provided such comments as the following:

Josh Glavine: https://www.change.org/users/64913963
"Hey Guys,
This is Josh. I was the Lead Designer on the Bug Hunt project here at Demiurge Studios. Today is my birthday and finding this petition is one of the best birthday gifts ever.
We love Aliens we loved working on this project and we would love to make more!
Keep playing, keep getting signatures and who knows what might happen! "

As well as Lead Bug Hunt Artist David Flamburis, formerly of Demiurge Studios: https://www.change.org/users/64974132
"I'm doing this for Moosh !
As Lead Artist on Horde, making the Tribute map was one of my inadvertent bucket list achievements. TRULY an honor and a labor of love...hands-down."

- Why Bug Hunt Has Potential:

A lot of the content that fans want in BUG HUNT can be easily put together by using and recycling assets that already exist in the game, which should help lower development costs and time considerably. In addition, since Demiurge Studios has expressed that they are ready and willing to revisit BUG HUNT, Sega now has the opportunity to retire ALIENS: COLONIAL MARINES on a fan-friendly note, and in the process, gain a lot of goodwill from fans who are still sore about their overall experience.

- Fans Making a Last Stand

Fans have pulled together and shared their talents for the BUG HUNT petition, even going so far as donating prizes for contests to keep everyone engaged and having fun.

Donations have been Promotional Artwork, Videos, Articles, and cool prizes such as new NECA ALIENS Action Figures, Copies of ALIENS: COLONIAL MARINES, New Release Movies, and XBOX 360 and PSN currency.

- How YOU can help us!:
Please consider sharing our story with your readers!   To get a true sense of why we're making a last stand for the BUG HUNT horde mode, please look over all the video links that have been provided.  We believe BUG HUNT, in particular, is worth fighting for and hope that you will understand our very real passion behind this cause.  We further encourage you to share this story with your readers because we believe that there are many people who will be interested in this news, and in order to try and convince Fox and Sega that there is enough demand, we need every signature and as much support as we can possibly get.  With the game's troubled history, we realize we are fighting an uphill battle, but we press on because we don't want to see Demiurge (and their incredible work) be lost in the bad reviews.

Thank you so much for your time and for your consideration!

If you need any additional information, please don't hesitate to contact me by email!
Yours truly,
Melissa K./MOOSH89

P.S.:  To help assist you in publishing a news article, I have created a press release for you to accompany your story with.  The press release is as follows:

PRESS RELEASE

Fans making one last stand for Aliens: Colonial Marines

A fan-made petition has been created with the intention of influencing Fox and Sega of America to authorize one last bundle of Bug Hunt DLC by Demiurge Studios.  Bug Hunt is an objective based horde mode that allows up to four players to battle increasingly difficult waves of enemies in the same vein as other fan-favorite horde modes, such as those found in the Call of Duty or Gears of War game franchises.

Bug Hunt was developed by Demiurge Studios, who is an independent video game developer that is based out of Cambridge , Massachusetts .  Demiurge has worked on many different games for many different platforms, and recently released the well-received Marvel Puzzle Quest game for mobile devices.

Demiurge has given its support to the petition, and its lead designer, Josh Glavine, has announced that the studio would love to make more content.  With developer support in place, fans of Bug Hunt have come together to raise awareness of what many people consider to be the best part of Aliens: Colonial Marines, and a hidden gem that was overlooked due to the wave of controversy that the game received at its release.

Fans behind the petition assert that because Bug Hunt was made available after the base game launched, it was largely overlooked by video game journalists, as well as fans who were disappointed with other aspects of the game that were made by other companies.

As such, the fans behind the push for a final wave of content are currently seeking petition signatures from individuals who would like Demiurge to release one last offering of fan requested Bug Hunt content that can help retire A:CM on a much higher note.

Petition:

Title: Re: Please Sign the Petition for More Bug Hunt DLC!

I would like to share that I fully support this petition, and would definitely appreciate some more Bug Hunt DLC!  Even though the game has its shortcomings (forgive me for any understatement here), I have always felt that Bug Hunt is a hidden treasure in A:CM and that there is an enormous amount of potential with this game mode.

Further, I believe that the push for one last wave of Bug Hunt DLC is not so far-fetched when you take into consideration the type of assets that the developers already have to work with.  Want an expanded Fury 161 landscape for Bug Hunt?  The developers already have the movie pack to work with.  Want an expanded Atmosphere Processor for Bug Hunt?  The developers already have the movie pack to work with.  Want an expanded Nostromo for Bug Hunt?  You get the idea.

The bottom line is that with many of the assets already in place, both the development time and development costs for further content should be considerably lessened.  Even if extra options are added, such as a queen boss battle at wave 30, they already have the queen model to pull from, and if, lets say they include power loaders in the Sulaco hangar bay to use, the power loader is already created as well.  I just hope everyone understands that the developers would not be starting from scratch and would have a very solid foundation to work with.

In addition, seeing as how Bug Hunt can be played via system link off-line with AI bots, this means that this game mode can stand the test the time, long after the on-line population dies off and/or the servers shut down.  More than likely, this will be the last A:CM type game we see for a good while, so I think that this is the best request to make at this point, as it will allow the game to have maximum replay value in the future.  And if the extra customization options are added to Bug Hunt, I think it would just further polish the experience, and leave us all with something to enjoy for a long time to come.

Also, if we are able to influence the publisher/developers to give us one last wave of DLC, the odds are in our favor that they can patch in some other things too, such as extra marine customization, as well as a movie-accurate pulse rifle.  The way I see it, if the developers have a reason to revisit the game, and see that there is strong demand for all these additions, they may very well try to work in these fan-requested features before retiring the game for good.

So, like Morse said in "Alien 3," "F*ck it!  Let's go for it!"

Its not gonna be like the golden days of avp2 modding anytime soon :( However I'd like them to prove me wrong so I could make a better campaign then theres. Maybe even make the one they breifly showed at E3.

As for bug hunt haven't got that dlc (too much money) but I will sing the petition because of how fun it sounds.

Hey, I would like to be proven wrong, too.  The truth, however, is unless people are getting paid, there will be no more DLC.  Gearbox (or whoever made this game - I don't even know who did any more) have fulfilled their contractual obligation to provide:

1).  A game under the Aliens licence.
2).  4 items of Pay for DLC.

...and that's it.  Unless someone on one of the various companies responsible for this thing has the time and is earning extra cash for doing so, there will be no more DLC.

The Glory Days of modding 'AvP2' are long over, sure.  At least we had 'em.

Too bad the Glory Days of 'A:CM' were kicked in the balls before it even had a chance to take off.

Like I say, I'd love to be wrong; but the unsympathetically cold equations of the bottom line have been written already.  The corporate mentality underlying this game is geared to profit - and not selfless generosity.  Don't expect too much from SEGA now.  Disappointment is going to be the long lasting legacy of this title from here on.

-Windebieste.

First, I would prefer any "mod" made by Mr. Winde before trying anything else coming from GB or whatever studios behind this epic fail of a game.

Enough of pissing on us all Foxtards and Gearbox n00bs with that Pitchman f**ktard on the lead. You suck to infinity and beyond and you know that. So at least release f**king SDK so we can fix the mess you spent $60.000.000 on, and to make our own creations too in the process

I spent some more time thinking about the points you both brought up and it helped me come up with a good suggestion for the petition.  Instead of it being promoted as "Bug Hunt or bust" so to speak, I think that your suggestions could certainly help tailor a better end-game for the petition.  For example, if, for whatever reason, the higher-ups don't care to do anything further with A:CM, perhaps the alternative can be to release a SDK for sale instead?  That way, they get to move on, and the community can not only make more Bug Hunt, but really give the game a new life of its own by addressing all sorts of things, including the addition of dedicated servers via the SDK.

I'm going to go ahead and forward this thought to Moosh and ask that she please consider putting it in the petition while its still in its early days.  If and when the update is posted to the petition, I'll be sure to report back here and keep everyone informed of what type of message we're sending to the powers-that-be.  Anyway, thank you guys for your input and helping to strengthen this seemingly last push for more of the things we want with A:CM.

By the way, I don't think anyone is asking for a repeat of the way the game was marketed and initially thrown onto consumers.  Basically, we would just like the opportunity to receive more of the stuff that was well-received (e.g., Bug Hunt) and if they are not willing to do it themselves, to allow the fan base to do it with a SDK that they can hopefully make sense on their end as another revenue stream.

Hey everyone, thanks for the support so far!

My thoughts, I think that an SDK kit would be fantastic! However, that would leave out a very large portion of A:CM players on consoles.

I'm right smack dab in the middle, I have A:CM on PC and PS3.

I think that if we add to the petition "or release an SDK", we will be asking for "black or white" so to speak, in the way that they are both very different requests. I feel it will only divide the unity of the petition that we are seeking.

That's not to say I believe there shouldn't be a push for the SDK, I just think it should be separate.

Know this however, I will back whoever comes up with a well written polite petition requesting the SDK!

*UPDATE* I have added a paragraph written by JustaGrunt to the end of the petition to ask for the SDK as an alternative if more content cannot be created :)

*UPDATE* I have added a paragraph written by JustaGrunt to the end of the petition to ask for the SDK as an alternative if more content cannot be created :)

Thanks again Moosh for allowing us to reference the SDK possibility with the petition campaign!  For those who haven't read the addition yet, it is as follows:

"ALTERNATIVELY, if you should opt out from producing further content for A:CM, would you please consider allowing the fan base to produce content ourselves? By releasing the game's full source development kit (SDK) for sale, you can still "retire" the game so to speak, but place its future into the hands of the very people who the game was made for in the first place - the fans. Aside from allowing fans to create an infinite amount of content, offering a SDK (aka, mod tools) for purchase would provide you with an additional revenue stream that could spur additional sales of the base game in the future. Whatever the case may be, by pursuing either of these options, or perhaps even both (Bug Hunt DLC + SDK), we, the undersigned, believe that these possibilities can enrich the overall game and allow its legacy to conclude on a high note."

Now, I think that the petition is much more solid and puts a very interesting solution on the table - if any of the parties are unwilling to provide further support for the game, then, at the very least, the parties should offer a full SDK for sale, that way the community as a whole can take over and breathe new life into the game.  Or, if they are open to both possibilities, that would be great too.  Whatever happens, I think that the community benefits either way and would be in a much better position than we currently find ourselves in.  To be sure, it would be a shame for the higher-ups to deny and ignore both requests.  All we gotta do now is push hard and try our best to work towards a happy ending here.

Well, done, Moosh.  you have got a calmer spirit than I, that's for sure.

The best I can do is actually sign the petition.

EDiT: There.  Done.  I'm not actually overly confident that this petition will achieve anything - the nature of corporate and technical hurdles that need to be jumped over are substantial to say the least.  Nonetheless, I added my name to the petition as a vote of support.

More Bug Hunt DLC would benefit console and PC players alike, my friend.  If more Bug Hunt is made, they would surely offer it on all platforms.   But, if the people in charge are not interested in making any more content, at least with this petition, they can be convinced to not let the game die altogether, and can give the PC players a chance to save it.  No matter how you look at it, it would help increase the overall lifespan of the game, and if a SDK is the only way we can get more content, at least the option will always be there for you to pick up a gaming PC and play all the user-generated content one day.  So with that being said, please sign the petition today!  We need the entire community to help send a clear, strong message that we are not content to leave A:CM as is, especially when odds are that we will not see an A:CM type game for many years to come.

Edit: Sorry to hear about the issues you've been having with both the game and your Xbox, underbound.  Sincere signatures and comments are always the best, so please do take your time to decide what you are most comfortable with.  Perhaps even if the game will be out of reach to you for a while, you could still sign to help the community out, or to help ensure there is more content available, should you ever revisit the game in the future.  Take care

Yes I know that the dlc would come, but you see,I have a banned 360 meaning this is useless for another 2months till I get a new one. And I spent 2x the amount from release,so I bought about 4 copies of the game on todays market($30). So me spending another $30 on a game I have already doesnt make sense unless its broken.Even then I have to get a pc or laptop to play it on as the one now has a handful of issues. I gotta to think about it.

You should sign, and here's why.  Many people have multiple systems at home.  If you have a friend who prefers PC, then you are doing him a favor.

Also, modding games means the game lasts ...and lasts.  even if you don't have a PC that can run the game now, in the future you may benefit from just a simple signature from a petition.  Here for example, is a list of mods for AvP2 (http://aliensvspredator2.filefront.com/developer/Windebieste;10497).  So, if you wanted to expand your AvP2 experience on PC, you can do so at just a few mouse clicks away.  That list, by the way, is an incomplete list of content created by myself.  The truth is, dozens of Modders made their imprint on the game, contributing hundreds of items for players to enjoy.

So sign up.  Think of playing awesome, weird and wonderful custom made content in A:CM in the future rather than thinking solely of your current (and soon to be superseded) console.   In a couple of years time, you too may see A:CM change from being dead in the water to having a still vibrant modding Community.  The AvP2 Modding community was healthy for 8 years.  We can do the same for A:CM - but we need your vote to convince those in power.

Nice... I can just imagine a FEAR mod for A:CM.

People would buy the game just to play that mod.  Really, they would - because it would be miles ahead of the vanilla game in every respect.  It would generate sales for the game and everyone would be sweet about it - including SEGA.

It's too bad then, that all we will be able to do is just imagine such a thing transpiring.  ...unless, of course, those tools got released. That WOULD change everything.

This is useless. The problem of the alien IP going downhill are the very ones owning the rights, a couple of retards at Fox who will never get their heads out of the clouds to eventually understand the A L I E N monster can not be dumbed down and casualized to appeal what they nowadays define asl "a wider audience", or speaking clearly, the braindead sheep or Casual Cancer.

The best we could do is to show some dignity and respect for ourselves to this goddamn money grabbers and low level masterminds behind the game design (and the new generation tiny toon aliens we fight in this game, and before in AVP2010), plus also and of course not showing any kind of further support to this pathetic attempt of a game (not to mention buying It or any of Its DLC) anymore, as well as to keep putting the hurt on Gearbox and Fox reputation across the internet or wherever we can.

The only thing you achieve with this request is to make them stand by their actions and condemn the rest of the fans with a brain to be given the same shit over and over again in the future. Can't most of you f**king already understand that the persons making decisions on everything related to this game and the IP, live in an alternate reality to ours (like politicians, very similar)?, can't you really guys get your head of the clouds already too and show some respect for yourselves?

I can't believe most of you don't even loathe meeting one of this attempts of the A L I E N head on while playing ACM. This is, imo, a problem even bigger in importance to the ones handling the franchise since the days of A:R. It is obvious then that 80% of the problem could lie in the very fanbase, which can only mean our eventual doom sooner or later, but doom in the end for all of us.

I can only dream with an aliens game where I have to rise the view with the mouse in order to see the head of an alien warrior when It is close to me, and more when It is head on. I can only dream with an aliens game where the aliens behave like they were supposed to behave, very similar to humans but in a creepier war. I've been dreaming of a game like this for almost 40 years now, and It still seems to be a dream only just because most of you have forgotten what the original creature was supposed to be, not to mention the people making decisions on the IP and alien related games.

Ya.  Ticked off is putting it mildly.  Then again, I'm not the only one.  The post directly above mine ^ expresses many of the same sentiments I do.  I've also been a fan of this series since 1978 (Oh, you say the film was released in 1979, but I was reading articles about it well before that, in Starlog, Starburst and other print media of the day; before the internet.  Way, way too long ago now...).  Back then, all we had was ALIEN.  It was a genuinely unique piece of cinema.  Now, with each diluting sequel, the whole ambiance has withered away.  Gone is the mystique.  Gone is Giger's original brilliant form.  Now it's all slack jawed aliens that open their mouths too far and way, way too many compromises.

Yeah.  Ticked off is an appropriate expression.  This series has degraded with time.  ALIEN 3 was the last REAL film of any credibility - and even it is flawed.  At least it deviated from pandering to just being an outpouring of more of the the same - which is all A:CM does.  This is a horrible game in so many ways.  It's a failure to the hardcore fans and only the 'soft as bunny's tails' Feb. 2013 noob sign-up fanbois will think it's any good.  Well, screw 'em.  Screw 'em all.  They are in abundance and it's unfortunate that the COD generation is being pandered to instead of crafting a game that embraces the source material in a legitimate and intimate fashion.  That's all been abandoned for crass cash in pseudo canon bullshit.  I hope Fox lost a lot of money on this thing because their credibility to deliver anything worthwhile in this licence has been shot to shit for the past decade.  Screw them, too.

So yes.  Ticked off.  ...and oh, I'm not the only one around the Community that believes this either.

Right now, getting our hands on the SDK IS our last hope.  Obviously, GBX and all the other 'professionals'  involved in the development of this title can't do it.  So, maybe... just maybe, if we can get the SDK released (I really doubt that will happen, but who knows) then the Community can make some kind of reparation and salvage the game from being the total wiped out disaster it currently is.

Our only possible way in succeeding in this effort is to convince SEGA that releasing the SDK will assist sales.  Money... It's the only thing that contemporary corporate entities care for.

Anyway, good luck with that!  LOL.

Not everyone follows this recent and unbelievable "I should be grateful for they did an aliens game, even If It sucks to the root" trend of thought, so to be ticked off should be considered the natural and obvious reaction before products such as ACM. Thankfully, Mr. Winde's state of thinking differs completely from that histrionic disease in the form of philosophical current most of you seem to suffer from.

Please, in all honesty and no pun intended..., show some respect to disinterested/unselfish creators such is the case of Windebieste. It is the minimum thing to ask for.

Just an estimate when the game would be completely dead and buried. I know it's a long shot considering an SDK is jut too much work. But maybe they can just open up the code and let the fans build one around it. I know some of us are willing to do that anyway.

Why the petition is not for SDK but for more DLC ?  :-X :-[

That's a very good question, Winter, and outside of what's written in the petition, I'll try my best to provide a more in-depth explanation here.  Basically, a request for the SDK is a tall order, as the community has already made contact with Sega about the issue, and, as far as I know, their stance is that it is NOT in their policy to release a SDK (mod tools).  Due to this, I think that the more feasible request is for them to revisit Bug Hunt because 1) the bug hunt mode mechanics are already in place and 2) there are already in-game assets (movie map packs, character models, sounds, etc.) for them to lift and build upon, making the request for more Bug Hunt, which is the one part of the A:CM that seems to be the most well-received, a lot more practical since the existence of current assets should help lessen the development time/costs.

Here's the kicker though - even though offering the SDK for sale is outside Sega's normal policy, if the petition gains traction, it is presented in such a way that it helps open a dialogue with the powers-that-be to consider the SDK for sale.  As its been mentioned, although the hope is that they would release both, I think it puts things in an interesting position because if, for whatever reason, the parties do not agree to make more content, then the proposal is on the table to let us do it ourselves then via the SDK.  It would be an interesting fallout indeed if Sega were to deny BOTH requests and leave money on the table so to speak. This would surely damage the reputation of all involved, but until a decision is made, the best we can do is make as much noise as possible, make them aware of the proposal (for more Bug Hunt & the SDK), and see what they do with it.

I hear you, Hemi, and definitely understand that when it's all said and done, the powers-that-be could definitely let us down here.  It surely wouldn't be the first time, nor the last time.  But, like you said, this is is probably THE last stand for Aliens: Colonial Marines (A:CM).  If we want it to have any type of future, I'm glad that you and others are getting involved to help the community put up one helluva fight.   So, given the potential that's still there with the game, in the words of Dillon from Alien 3...

Very well said, Windebieste!  One way to look at this, particularly all those who fall into the jaded crowd, is to see this as a way to make the best out of a bad situation.  The time to make a difference is definitely of the essence though - when the next generation consoles launch in November, I'm fairly sure that these platforms, and most of the games tied to them, will pretty much fade into oblivion and that will be that.  Anyway, thanks so much for your support, and I am really excited to think of the great possibilities that you and the rest of the modding community could do with all the existing assets/game modes in A:CM.  I'm fairly certain that the modding community, if given a chance, can work twice as hard and twice as fast at delivering fan-friendly, fan requested content.  Here's hoping everyone can push hard and help Sega retire this game on a high note!

Hell, I'd buy ACM for PC, if the tools were ever released to the public.

Saddened to say, as good and compelling as this petition is- those bastards at Gearbox will no doubt ignore it. Like they would give a rats arse about a game they left in development limbo for so many years and flat-out lied to the loving fans of the franchise... >:(

But, fawk it, SIGNED!

Awesome!  Thanks for your help, Mr. Runner, as well as everyone else who's helping to push for a better send-off for this game.  You know, I think given everything that happened during development, this can also be seen as one of the last ways for both Sega and Gearbox to try and redeem themselves so to speak.  More Bug Hunt would be appreciated, but like I've been saying, if they would prefer to abandon the game, I think it would be a very classy gesture for them to allow the fans to pick up the torch and make content for ourselves.  Even then, I'm not saying that as if they owe us something; with the way the petition is presented, if they make both options  (More Bug Hunt and the SDK) available to purchase, they get something out of it too.  If the game were getting a sequel, I'd understand if they would want to protect their assets, but we all know that a sequel is very, very unlikely, so I think the best option is for them to turn it over to the fans and use it as one more revenue stream.  Hopefully the powers-that-be will see it the same way as well, that way everyone benefits from the deal - they get more money and we get to extend the life of the game for years to come.  I'm confident that with the modding community's help and creativity, we can get the game to a state that is much closer to everyone's original vision for A:CM.

He is. There are multiple reasons for signing this petition. Say we do pull it off, and get news coverage with this petition. Sour-face Sega will have a choice. Listen to the people, or ignore us once again. Either way, we win with the right amount of petition numbers. It will show once more what a bunch of half-assed publishers they are, and will raise the pitchforks once more. Like folk did when this game first released.  If it turns out Sega does support the little fans this game has and gives them some DLC, then it will at least show us they still have heart for the franchise...and the fans of the franchise might trust them again concerning the upcoming Alien(s) games.

IMO Dignity does little for future releases of Aliens media, or product feedback. Petitions neither probably, but at least they are backed up by numbers and facts. And with the right numbers they might make a blip on the motiontracker.(or a humm on the detection unit lol) It's a way to make yourself heard instead of folding your arms in front of your computer with a smug face. ;-)

The ACM franchise is already doomed anyway, and won't return for a long time. This is all about showing Sega or Fox that the fans do have a say to in the matter. For me anyway. :-)

Each their own of course.

ps : I do understand your point of view acheronbeing. Everyone has his own ways of dealing with this terrible situation. :-) I only hope we can at least get one propper Aliens product in the future. The release of crappy movies/games has to stop at some point right?

Not until everyone learns to vote with their wallets, and here you are all asking to pay more money for:

1st) Content that should have been part of the retail disc.
2nd) One of the most broken, unfinished and soulless products in the form of a videogame I've ever seen

This obviously leads to my other two posts where I try to explain where the actual problem lies, who are responsible for this, and how to fight them (with your wallets again).

Since customers and fans alike have been treated like retards (something imho you all deserve btw), and the $60.000.000 those crooks at Gearbox diverted to a project of theirs, BL2, and who knows If a little bit to fill in someone's pockets, such might be the case of that f**king Pitchman guy, liar among liars, the only petition I would sign in is the one that demands the free SDK tool kit for creation.

Most of you still don't have the mentality necessary to stop this cancer that is devouring the gaming industry, and all that thanks to your money. Furthermore you still ask for more.

Many of us are about or have already gave up on you. Only I and some few others still have the patience to pop up around from time to time and try to make you all to see reason. Sadly, retardation still seems to be the greatest foe I've ever come to know, and while victory would consist ONLY in the easiest and simplest human attitude possible toward the Cancer managing the alien IP and most of the gaming industry alike (again to vote with your wallets), defeat is the one and only plausible thing we can foresee given the current situation and mentality of the consumer, the gamer in this case.

Some ignorant e-cookie guys can laugh, but the only path that will allow to understand all I'm trying to tell to you all, is the path of dignity. Some e-cookie guys only laugh because of their absolute ignorance about such an old and forgotten concept like the one this word represent. However, I still believe most of you are in time to open your eyes to finally stop this, and all only by understanding what the word dignity actually implies, in this case, and again, to vote with your wallets.
Title: Re: Please Sign the Petition for More Bug Hunt DLC!
Post by: Hemi on Aug 28, 2013, 05:58:55 PM
Again...I agree with this. But the simple fact is...the industry is like this and will probably never change.

"Not if you vote with your wallet."

Not going to happen. And you know why. Things like DLC, microtransactions etc...it's all part of gaming these days unfortunately. Casual gaming is destroying the industry. But that's another topic.

I wish us gamers had more of a spine, but we don't and we have to live with it. (and make the best of it)

You'll never get me on Origin though lol.

We are so close to our first goal!

I've been thinking of ways to get people revved up. I decided that once we get past our first goal I will try my best to include "incentives" for those who can come up with clever, cool and friendly ways to promote the petition and get us more signatures.

Things you can do are:

- Youtube videos: Brush up your bug hunt skills, grab some ultimate bad ass squadmates, use your mics and have fun, use appropriate dialogue from the movies, and KILL THEM BUGS! Talk about the petition in the video and the description!

Or make a fun video about the petition, dress up, make a fun fool of yourself to show your ALIENS fandom. Maybe go out in public bug hunting (maybe not with your pulse rifle, but maybe a sharp stick?). Get some friends together, find a private spot where you don't have to just use "harsh language". Make a live action version of Bug Hunt!

- Blog about your need for more Bug Hunt. Talk about the petition!

- Use your imagination!

Keep it polite however, no bashing of any parties involved (SEGA, Gearbox, Demiurge, etc...)

I will buy one of the NECA ALIENS figures myself to send out as a prize to whoever can come up with the best way to promote the petition, and myself, JustaGrunt and a secret judge will decide who wins!

Does that sound cool?

If you have any ideas, I'd gladly try my best to take out of my own pocket as a prize :)

Or maybe GBX just waited for the meltdown to happen (like it always do if in the games there are no female soldiers (lol female soldiers xD)) and later on they just announced it as fan service  ::)

1. Do not show any media or info about playable female soldiers but you already implemented them in the game
2. Wait for the butthurt
3. Announce that you did a tremendous effort to include this so important gameplay feature because the fans wanted it
4. ???
5. Profit!

To be clear, during development, a Gearbox employee went on the record and stated that NO female marines would be playable in multiplayer.  That's why the petition was made; not because someone falsely assumed that they weren't already implemented but because they were told the opposite - that they wouldn't be.  Long story short, after a lot of noise was made, female marines wound up in the game.  Even one of the whistleblowers mentioned this when describing the game's development.  The whistleblower said that with the chaos surrounding production, an 11th hour effort was made to include female marines due to the pressure that was put on them.  All in all, given the evidence, I would say that the petition definitely made a difference, and with enough help, the current one can too.

Support the petition - or just slink away into the shadows.  Just let us do what we have to do without Community impedance.  Please.

The last time I looked, the signature list hadn't yet reached 100.  Today when I logged into the petition, I see that it's passed its first milestone.  Now onto the next one, 1000 sign ups.

Don't forget, that's 1000 signatures towards making YOUR VOICE heard by the publisher.  Having already reached 100 signatures, we have already covered Ten Percent of that goal and we are now well on the way to our next milestone.

We now need less than 900 signatures to fulfill that goal.

Regardless of whether SEGA actually responds to our requests or not, it's up to you make your voice heard and potentially make a difference.   Get behind your Community and show your support.

Has everyone signed the petition yet?  You have..?  Sweet!

Now, it would be ideal if everyone else did so as well.  You will find it here:

YOUR Last Hope to Get Something Decent for this Game (https://www.change.org/petitions/sega-of-america-corporation-gearbox-software-demiurge-studios-please-release-additional-bug-hunt-dlc-for-aliens-colonial-marines)

It doesn't matter if you hate the game.  It doesn't matter if you think GBX let us all down.  Just add your name to it and support everyone who has done so already.

It's a safe bet that SEGA has no intention of supporting the game any longer at all; and signing the petition is no guarantee that this will change.  Signing it however, gives us hope; and right now, that's all we've got.

Hey everyone it's my first post here, so I'm not sure how things work but I was told to post this here so I am doing so.

I am the maker of the YouTube video that Moosh and JustaGrunt are using to help this campaign. JustaGrunt came to me with another video idea but I need help with this one. The video will feature 4 player co-op in Bughunt on the highest difficulty the players skill set can manage. I've been requested to use movie accurate weapons and feature all movie characters.

So the point of this post is for a "call to arms" for 3 other people who can meet these guidelines and are willing to help make this video and help the petition. Naturally we can't all expect to run pulse rifles and survive, but JustaGrunt has requested it to stay somewhat in the vein of the movie. I don't want you to feel limited in your loadouts, but please none of the crazy non-canon stuff.

This is for Xbox 360 players only sorry.

We need someone for each movie character Hicks, Apone, Hudson, and Drake.

These are what we need for each role.

Hicks: Have one of your loadout slots be his shotgun.
Apone: normal Pulse rifle without the accelerator attachment. (I will cover this one)
Hudson: I'd say use his Pulse rifle but we all know it sucks...but if you want to power through it and take one for the team please do!
Drake: Grab every smart gun we come across, since he has the smartgun armor on this will look pretty rad.

Thats all we need in each "class", so feel free to try things in your loadouts so long as it's movie accurate-ish.

JustaGrunt also wants us to push for a "Fight to the death" in operations on tribute. Since this is a classic scene this will help showcase why exactly BugHunt is awesome! We don't have to finish all 30 waves on each map, just got to get enough footage so i can edit together an awesome video.

I want to give this my A game but I can't do it alone, I need YOU and two others to help me. I don't want this to be some half-assed video of me camping with 2 turrets, that would be very boring and a huge disservice to this petition and to BugHunt itself. Please help, Moosh and JustaGrunt are counting on me and I don't want to screw this up. I can't reward you in any way except any fame you may gain from being featured in the video. But if you do join you'll help this petition in a big way.

Again this is for xbox 360 version only. The session will take place on tuesday September 24th at 6 P.M. central time and run until we get a fair amount of footage. If you wish to take part in this please message my gamertag DaBeardedXeno and tell me where your're from and we will pick and choose who plays what when we are in the lobby.

Sorry for this monster post, and sorry if it's kinda out of place. I was told to post it here so more people will see it, and it's somewhat relevant to the topic.

Thank you if your're still reading this. I hope we can at least fill some of the spots. If the time doesn't work for you but another does please let me know. We can delay it if we need to but it must be done VERY soon. Please don't make me do this by myself, good people like Moosh and JustaGrunt deserve far better work than that.

Thanks
-DaBeardedXeno

Post by: JustaGrunt on Oct 06, 2013, 10:42:26 PM
Thanks for sharing the awesome update, Moosh!  Congrats to the winner of Round 4 and good luck to all those who enter into Round 5, who can win a chance at seeing the new Star Trek movie, courtesy of our friend and petition partner, the founder of the xenomorphic coalition, Da Bearded Xeno!  And now that we're at the point where we can start reaching out to the gaming media, we can look to take things to the next level, and have the push for more Bug Hunt and/or the SDK become too large to ignore!

By the way, for anyone who is unfamiliar with the Bug Hunt horde mode in A:CM and doesn't understand what we're fighting for, Da Bearded Xeno has just made a new video showcasing why we want more of this content, and if you're an Aliens fan, why we believe you want more as well, even if you do not have a copy of A:CM yet and are waiting for it (and its DLC) to be discounted to a low price before giving it, or at least Bug Hunt, a chance.  Please see the following video for a sample of what we have found to be the best part of the game and something that is worth fighting for:

In addition, I would like to congratulate everyone, especially the fine folks here at AVPgalaxy, for helping us reach the milestone of attaining 250+ signatures!   :o

*special thanks to our very talented friend, hemicrania, for his collection of campaign images*

P.S.:  Let's not forget to thank Demiurge Studios for their contributions to Bug Hunt, and let them know that there is a demand for more content!  Demiurge seems to be very active on Facebook and even replied to the following Bug Hunt comment...

"Robin S.:  more aliens colonial marines dlc please.bug hunt maps do the fan base proud

Demiurge:  Glad you like it! We worked very hard on authenticity, particularly on Tribute.
"

Please share your comments and support with Demiurge Here:  https://www.facebook.com/DemiurgeStudios (https://www.facebook.com/DemiurgeStudios)

UPDATE:

Hello again, everyone!  I am very pleased to announce that the petition has just received a major breakthrough!  Earlier today, Demiurge Studios, the principal developer behind Bug Hunt, reached out to the petition and are very receptive to the cause!   :o

Here is the post in its entirety:

"Hey Everyone, This is Josh [Glavin]. I was the Lead Designer on the Bug Hunt project here at Demiurge Studios. Today is my birthday and finding this petition is one of the best birthday gifts ever.

We love Aliens we loved working on this project and we would love to make more!

Keep playing, keep getting signatures and who knows what might happen!"

This is major, major news, and I would like to congratulate Moosh, as well as everyone else who has supported the cause, and helped to make this possible!  The A:CM community has gone on for what feels like months without being able to have any real contact with the developers, so this is indeed huge news and is something to both celebrate and be proud of!  Most of all, by Demiurge reaching out and being favorable to the petition, this means that there is indeed hope, so I hope it encourages everyone to keep pushing hard and continue getting the message out there!

Title: Re: Please Sign the Petition for More Bug Hunt DLC!|Demiurge/GBX on board!
Post by: JustaGrunt on Oct 10, 2013, 05:49:02 PM
Just wanted to update everyone that we have a new video on the way that should be posted sometime very soon.  Since we have already demonstrated the Bug Hunt gameplay video, we will be doing something different, which will hopefully serve as another reason why more Bug Hunt should be a very, very worthwhile goal for the community.

I would also like to remind everyone that even if you don't have video capturing capabilities, or graphic skills, please know that you can still help the cause by not only signing and sharing the petition, but by helping us try and get Sega on board by sending them messages as often as you can about wanting more Bug Hunt.

I am sending Sega a message every day, using different forms of contact, to help them get the message because, remember, we have 2/3 parties (Demiurge & Gearbox) on board and they are the only hold up now. So, if you could, please take the few minutes to reach out to Sega and make your voice be heard. Perhaps the best way to get the message across is to keep on creating tickets with their support team below, who will hopefully share our concerns with those who have decision-making power within Sega. You can submit your tickets to Sega by using the following link...

https://help.sega.com/anonymous_requests/new (https://help.sega.com/anonymous_requests/new)

I will be sure to include the link to create tickets with Sega's customer support in my signature from now on, that way it can help the community better focus our efforts on the last holdout to getting more Bug Hunt.

SEGA/GBX/DEMIURGE:
Please give us more A:CM content (Bug Hunt), or the tools to develop content (full sdk). We'll give you $$$ in return. Simple.  Help spread the message by signing the following petition and using the links below to help ensure that Sega receives our message loud and clear:

UPDATE:
Hi there, everyone!  As I had mentioned, a new video for the petition has recently been released, which helps demonstrate the type of potential there is with one last wave of Bug Hunt DLC by Demiurge Studios.

Bug Hunt Map Suggestions:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0wIcsaLYoQ# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0wIcsaLYoQ#)
In other news, aside from gaining support from the developers (Demiurge & Gearbox), Moosh also reached out to Al Matthews from the film and was able to get his blessing too!

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi282.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fkk254%2FMoosh89%2FAponeapproved_zps665e13fd.png&hash=20d6a75104e052366e88b1e65bcdb214ca713af7)

At this point, the last holdout to attaining one last wave of content for A:CM is Sega.  As publisher, Sega is the one who has the power to authorize Demiurge Studios to release one last wave of Bug Hunt DLC.  With that being said, please help us get Sega's attention by reaching them at all the different contact points in my signature, and letting them know that you want more Bug Hunt DLC from Demiurge Studios, which can help ensure that A:CM is retired on a high note with one last wave of fan-friendly, fan-requested content.

By contacting Sega, and alerting Moosh of your contributions, you can even be entered to win the next prize being offered in the sixth round of our "Share & Tweet" prize promotion!

Anyway, thank you again for your time, your interest, and your help.  With all the progress we've made, NOW is most certainly the best time to step up and make one last stand for A:CM!

One "like" click doesn't mean anything. I am pretty sure the fb page is being managed by different person too.

I am pretty sure the fb page [for Al Matthews] is being managed by different person too.
If you were a friend to Mr. Matthews and had access to his private, personal page, you would know that he handles his own FB account, and how it's not some sort of set-up where he has a manager pulling all the strings.

Maybe not to you, but we still consider a "like" to be a very nice gesture by Al.  While its not a signature per se, by Al approving (aka, "Sgt. Apone approved!") the comment and allowing it to be displayed on his page, Al certainly helps in his own little way by sharing the petition link with the rest of his FB followers.

Anyway, thanks for the bump, and for allowing me to better explain Al's involvement.  Have a good one!

Hey again, everyone!  Glad to see the petition continuing to get support from the community!  Now I don't want to steal anyone's thunder, but Shev has just made a petition-related video that is really, really special.  As a matter of fact, I think it's so good, that it deserves its own write-up, and to be shared with anyone who considers themselves a fan of the Aliens film.  Even if fans are not into video games or want nothing to do with A:CM, seeing such a well-done tour of Hadley's Hope should speak to ANY aliens fan.  Without further ado, here is Shev's video, which is titled "A tribute to tribute," or what I like to call it - a love letter from Demiurge Studios to Aliens fans all over the world.  I hope you all enjoy, and continue to get a sense of why we want Demiurge to come and apply this same type of love to other iconic movie locations, such as Fury 161 or the Atmosphere Processor, in A:CM's Bug Hunt horde mode.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PN5fh4qQv_E# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PN5fh4qQv_E#)

P.S:  This video even got favorable feedback from Demiurge Studios on both their Facebook page and the comments section of the video!  Please give it a watch and remember to sign and share the petition if you would like Demiurge to release one last wave of Bug Hunt!

Do you know what bugs me most? That IF (I am saying it again IF!) they actually decide to release something it will be just another map pack with no changes to the gameplay, no changes to the matchmaker, no dedicated servers, no SDK, no host settings to change the game rules, just nothing but a map mack and thats gonna be it. We will NEVER see anything after that. One last map pack with 3-4 (5 at best) maps for Bug Hunt wont change ANYTHING at all. Imo, the only good outcome is if they decide to release either dedicated servers - the players at least will be able to play whatever they want, or if they release SDK which doesn't need explanation. The best scenario is if they decide to release both, but with a single map pack they won't change shit. Just remember AvP 2010 - do the map pack saved the game? No, of course not. But its still being played because if the dedis though.

True. What I want to see MOST of all is Split-Screen support for ALL modes. Basically every other shooter has this for all modes (campaign, multiplayer, horde, etc.) and I feel it's a great disservice for CM to not support any Co-Op other than Campaign.

I don't own a console currently but I feel your pain bro. Imo the split screen support in ANY coop game on a console is A MUST. The game in this case is not that demanding either. They trashed the engine so bad that it looks like the game is from 2006's 360 games. All Gears of War games are using the same engines, yet they look WAY MORE spectacular and they have split screen in all game mods + mp bots + the fact in some scenes there are tons of enemies. ACM looks like shit and don't support any of those. Wtf GBX.. Also I am fairly sure its not big deal to include split screen option at all, I mean its already implemented in the engine, it doesn't have to be build from the ground up. Its funny because Borderlands 2 is featuring split screen + more open maps which means more job for the hardware but it also features tons of enemies at once, while ACM is close quarter game with less enemies and the hardware is not that stressed. Go figure.

Awesome alien13!

And as for consoles, Me and a friend were talking about this last night.

Consoles don't necessarily need dedicated servers for A:CM, PC sure! but consoles really just need host migration, and bad.

If consoles had dedicated servers, then we are at the mercy of whenever they decide to shut them off, but with a P2P connection, there will always be service, provided there are people wanting to play.

Since we can join friends quite easily in A:CM, asking for more things to do is a great alternative and that's one of the reasons for fighting for more content. It's not impossible to join and play together, it is tolerable on consoles.

Hah! Possibly!

I'm still pretty confident and excited!

We have a few cool things in the works, like an exclusive story/interview with the guys that made Bug Hunt, and we have the Xenomorph Warrior contest going on right now too. I also have two full copies (Game and Season Pass) to give away on Steam but I can't quite think of a way to do so... Headscratchin' like crazy!

We are also about to go to the media, we finished revising our media letter, we're just waiting on some things to fall into place before we strike. We only have one shot to make an impression and we want to do it right :)

Thank you, aliens13, for your signature, and I would like to congratulate everyone on attaining 350+ signatures so far!  As I've always said, every signature matters, so I continue to be real grateful every time we have someone support the push for one last wave of content.  We are getting ready to approach the media soon, so the more signatures we have, the more likely that gaming journalists will take our petition seriously, and see the cause as being newsworthy.  Once we reach out to the casual crowd, I am confident we will be able to capture the attention of all the A:CM fans who would support the cause, but just don't know about it because they aren't the type to sign up to the hardcore forums and all that.

I think we'll be in a better position to answer this question once we make our big media play soon.  Right now, we are planning to contact media at over 70 different websites, which should help ensure that the petition is able to reach the widest audience possible.  Thanks in large part to Moosh, we have a media letter in place, as well as a press release, so everyone can rest assured there there has been a lot of work behind the scenes to give the petition the best chance for success.  When it's the right time to strike (which should be very, very soon and before the next gen begins), we will follow through with our media push and try our best to get 1,000+ signatures, that way we can help give Demiurge as much leverage as possible with Sega, to show them that there is indeed interest for one last round of Bug Hunt content.  With media attention and Demiurge working on our behalf behind the scenes, it will then be decision time for Sega, and, one way or another, we should find out if they will honor the petition for more Bug Hunt, or the SDK in the alternative, or say no to everything, and risk further upsetting the same die-hard crowd that they will expect to support Alien: Isolation next year.

One other thing I'd like to mention, particularly with some of the comments you made, Winter, concerns different things we'd like to see for the game that are outside the scope of Bug Hunt.  As far as I'm concerned, the hope has always been to get development to resume on the game (in this case with Bug Hunt), and once we know that's a go, then do our best to see if we can get the developers to work in additional requests on the side.  Kinda like getting the best of both worlds, but in order to make that happen, I've always seen this petition as the gateway because we need someone to start the engines of production again before we can realistically hope for the other options.  At least this time around, we will know specifically who to to talk to and what to request in order to help see that A:CM be retired on the best note possible.

In other news, I would like to share the latest petition-related video with AVPgalaxy, which is another example of why the Bug Hunt horde mode has potential.  Before, we shared how Demiurge Studios could revisit Bug Hunt and recycle existing assets to provide full-blown, movie-accurate Bug Hunt experiences on expanded maps such as the Nostromo, Processor, and Fury 161.

In this video, we share the possibilities of two more maps that Demiurge could choose to use, should they be given the authorization by Sega to produce one last wave of Bug Hunt content.  With that being said, I hope everyone enjoys our latest video and for those who haven't signed the petition yet, please consider doing so, or if you have, please continue to share it with anyone who may interested, that way we continue to increase our signature numbers, and have a firm foundation in place by the time we reach out to the media soon.  Thanks in advance for any and all help you can provide!  So without further ado, here is "Why Bug Hunt Has Potential, Part 2"...

Thanks for the help, PRJ_since1990!  What I've been doing is sending a message to Sega's Facebook account almost everyday, and also using the support tickets to request one last wave of Bug Hunt DLC by Demiurge Studios.  Since the customer support team aren't able to make decisions like this, I'm always careful to tell them to pass this information along to the higher-ups at Sega who DO have decision-making authority.  Please be sure to ask them to do the same, that way the higher-ups at Sega continue to get the message.  Anything we can do can help Demiurge gain more leverage when negotiating with Sega to come back for one last wave of content.  Keep up the good work, everyone, and thanks again, PRJ_since1990!

11/12/13 UPDATE

Hello there, everyone!  Today marks a very special day for both the petition and the A:CM community as a whole.  After months of hard work, the Queen (Moosh) is ready to call out to her children (the A:CM community) and make a courageous effort to defend the hive (future of A:CM).

(https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.orbitbooks.net%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2009%2F12%2Falien-queen.jpg&hash=96f06ccdc1cedc4c9261ffa6ac15316aae0c756c)

As Moosh previously mentioned, she was able to secure an interview with Dave Flamburis, who was one of the Bug Hunt developers from Demiurge, and ask him many questions on behalf of the community.  The exclusive interview can be found at the following link:

http://www.avpgalaxy.net/games/aliens-colonial-marines-sega/interview-dave-flamburis-demiurge-studios-bug-hunt/ (http://www.avpgalaxy.net/games/aliens-colonial-marines-sega/interview-dave-flamburis-demiurge-studios-bug-hunt/)

In addition, Moosh was also able to help inspire him to create a developer diary on the making of Bug Hunt.  You can find the developer diary at the following link:

http://aeternumars.wordpress.com/hadleys-hope-and-the-making-of-tribute/ (http://aeternumars.wordpress.com/hadleys-hope-and-the-making-of-tribute/)

I hope you all enjoy reading both the interview and the diary.  I think they both came out great, and help demonstrate how much love Dave Flamburis, as well as his former colleagues at Demiurge Studios, put into Bug Hunt.  If you haven't seen Shev's "Tribute to Tribute" video yet, I strongly suggest that you do in order to see that the proof is in the pudding.  Before I continue any further, however, I would like to reiterate some words of encouragement we've received so far:

Josh Glavine, Lead Designer for Bug Hunt:

"We love Aliens we loved working on this project and we would love to make more!

Keep playing, keep getting signatures and who knows what might happen!"

Source:  Petition comment

Dave Flamburis, Lead Artist for Bug Hunt:

"I WOULD LOVE a full-blown, Tribute-style Processor BH map... lem'me at it!"

Source:  Exclusive Interview

Now with that being said, I invite everyone to visit the following link and read my next comments with the appropriate background music:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHUINYLPeGc#ws (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BHUINYLPeGc#ws)

"I address you today, not as a supporter of Bug Hunt, not as a part of the on-going petition, but as member of the A:CM community.  We are faced with the very gravest of challenges.  The naysayers believe that A:CM has reached a point of Armageddon.  The end of all things.  And yet for the first time in the game's post-release period, the community has banded together to prevent the game's extinction.  All of you supporting this cause need to know that everything that can be done to prevent this disaster is being called into service.  The community's thirst for bug hunt, every step up the ladder of the APC, every adventurous reach onto LV-426, all of our combined talents and imaginations, even the flame wars we've fought, have provided us the tools to wage this terrible battle.  Through all the chaos that is this game's history, through all the wrongs and the discord, through all of the pain and suffering, through all of our times, there is one thing that has nourished our souls and elevated our community above its origins.  And that is our passion.  The dreams of an entire community are focused today on the media letter and press release that is traveling into the heavens of cyberspace.  And may we all, Aliens fans the world over, see this media push through.  God speed and good luck to you."

::waits for Moosh to press the "send" button and initiate launch with the go-flight command::

So regarding the Xeno contest, when is the new last day for entries? Or did I miss it in the print somewhere?

Also, I still support the efforts being made. I hope we get some much-needed support/patches/additions to ACM. I got a reply email back from SEGA support.

Evan, Nov 11 15:54 (PST):

Hi,

Thanks for the feedback. We will take it into consideration for future releases and updates.

Best Regards,
SEGA Customer Support

I'm glad they at least read it.

I'll still support the ideas even if no one else is willing to. Including the company that can make those ideas a reality.

Now, for the BIG UPDATES!

This last weekend I had the chance to chat with Dave Flamburis, formerly of Demiurge, who was the Lead Artist who worked on Bug Hunt! I asked him a series of fan friendly questions! Read the interview here at AvPGalaxy:

- LINK to Petition: https://www.change.org/petitions/sega-of-america-corporation-gearbox-software-demiurge-studios-please-release-additional-bug-hunt-dlc-for-aliens-colonial-marines (https://www.change.org/petitions/sega-of-america-corporation-gearbox-software-demiurge-studios-please-release-additional-bug-hunt-dlc-for-aliens-colonial-marines)

Josh Glavine: https://www.change.org/users/64913963 (https://www.change.org/users/64913963)
"Hey Guys,
This is Josh. I was the Lead Designer on the Bug Hunt project here at Demiurge Studios. Today is my birthday and finding this petition is one of the best birthday gifts ever.

Regardless of what happens, it's been a hell of a ride with you all, I love this community so much! You are all simply amazing. Thank you for accepting me into your ranks!
I believe it can only go up from here 

Let's take a moment to congratulate everyone on a job WELL DONE! Pat yourselves on the back, pop a top of whatever your favourite beverage is, and enjoy!

Moosh out!

Its a shame it wasn't a million signatures, SEGA isn't even going to BLINK with 4000. The CEO heads are brown noser's that got there not by being unique and smart, but by being yes men or coming from families that open doors. We have seen this with a TON of SEGA products, T3 War of the Machines anyone?

Bughunt and more of it are needed, but Activity is next to DEAD for this game which sucks. I made a small mod that allows 95 rds in the pulse and fixed a few other things for the latest version of this game and have a wopping 25 download! Which shows you people are not playing or looking up mods for this game. MODD site is one of the best for activity but......25 downloads.

I wished they had bots for Games that have only 1-2 people in them, again the developers have no wish to make truly works of art, its just about quick money. SEGA can care less for 4000 fans of the game or a developer that in their eyes would love to have more money to make another bughunt.

This reminds me of Alien3 where she said, you think the company cares about a bunch of lifers that found religion. lol Same SEGA the "Company" can care less about the game or the fans, they made their money and are looking for toward their next cash cow. I think people forget this CEO's are from RICH families and they DO NOT play video games at all, LIFE is their video game. It's like two different worlds and the same thing is happening to all the politicians being disconnected from the ordinary people.

Good try though, I hope it works, just 4000 is too low.

Simple.

Its a shame it wasn't a million signatures,
You seriously expect that many from the game that lost more than half of player base in a week? Why would the game company shell out money on something that has little to no return?

No I don't that is the point. without any significant numbers Sega will fluff it off. Most of the CEO's are dumber than a brick anymore, Hence why quality is down. Plus they are so greedy and short sided that even the IMF is trying to reign them in.

F.A.Q.

Q:  If I enter every round, can I win more than once?
A:  Yes.  Each individual who participates can win once per round.  For example, if only one person participates in this promotion at every opportunity, they would win the prize(s) offered every single round.

Q:  In order to enter, do I have to share the petition over and over?  I don't want to annoy my Facebook friends!
A:  Totally understood and accounted for.  To enter, you could choose to send a Tweet each round and avoid Facebook altogether.  Or, you could choose to share the petition just once, and Tweet for the additional rounds.  The choice is up to you!

Q:  If I send a tweet and don't get a response of any kind, does that disqualify my entry?  What happens if the Sega exec ignores me?
A:  As long as you send a relevant Tweet, regardless if it's answered or not, your entry is still valid.

Q:  I only have a few friends on Facebook.  Do I have to have a certain amount of friends to qualify?
A:  No.  Your entry is good whether you have 5 friends, 50 friends, 500 friends, or 5,000 friends.  Anything looking like a dummy account, however, will not be deemed a valid entry.  For example, if a FB account only has a few friends with little to no activity, that entry will not be valid.  We ask that those who participate, and use the Facebook option, use an active and real account please.

Q:  What happens if I share the petition on Facebook, but none of my friends sign it?  Will my entry still count?
A:   Yes, your entry will most certainly count, regardless if it is able to produce any signatures or not.  What we are trying to do is reach out to people who are fans of Aliens and would want to support this cause.  We understand if people are either not fans of Aliens or A:CM.  The point is to get the message out there and try to give A:CM a better send-off at best, or receive closure at worst.

Q:  I think you all are wasting your time with all of this.  Why go through all this effort and trouble if Sega and/or Gearbox have already given up on the title?
A:  Until an official announcement is made by Sega and/or Gearbox dropping support, there is still hope that a last stand for A:CM can be made.  Even if these companies have moved on, by opening up a dialogue, we can at least find out if there are any future plans for the game and attain closure of some kind.

Q:  It looks like everyone is tweeting the designated Sega representative with the same thing.  Can I post something different?
A:  Definitely. As long as it is A:CM related and involves the petition, a request for Bug Hunt DLC, a request for the SDK (mod tools), or an explanation on whether there will be any continued support for the game, anything that loosely falls under this umbrella will most certainly qualify.

Q:  What happens if Sega officially announces that support for A:CM has been dropped during the promotion?  Will you continue to give out prizes?
A:  When and if this does occur, the promotion, as well as the petition, will unfortunately and sadly be retired at that point.  Therefore, it's important to participate in the earlier rounds because it helps increase the odds that you will have a chance at a prize.  If support is dropped during one of the weeks, all entries up until that point will be honored, and will culminate with one last give-away.

CLIFF NOTES
-to thank everyone for their support, Hemicrania has graciously offered an A:CM desktop wallpaper for download at the following link:  http://www.mostimpressive.nl/ACM-BugHunt/

-help promote the campaign by sharing the petition on Facebook and/or tweeting SEGA/FOX.

-If you do so, send a private message to Moosh verifying you have done so with links, and you will be entered into a raffle to win the designated prize(s)

-If you win, you will receive your prize via private message and/or e-mail once the round finishes

-the prizes will be given away until an official announcement withdrawing support is made by Sega and/or Gearbox.  So, to secure your chance of winning a prize, be sure to get your entry in early just in case.

423 signatures, that's almost halfway to the 1000 mark.  Keep getting those sigs happening.

Congrats to everyone driving this effort forward!

It's a curious predicament I find myself in... the game itself has no shortage of deficiencies; yet, as a fan, I find that I would be untrue to myself if I were to not support this movement.  So, keep up the great work!

I'm sure that there are others as yet unsigned who also experience this uncomfortable duality - an acute disappointment of what the game actually is, coupled with the need to see 'ALIENS - Colonial Marines' receive further improvements.  I'm not quite ready to abandon hope yet despite the lack of interest from the business entities (FOX, SEGA, GBX) involved.   Hope is all that separates me from totally abandoning interest in this game.  Hope that those in control will eventually perceive that releasing the SDK is really the only way to keep this game officially alive and give it a future.

After all, with the new consoles released, the fan base is fading and will continue to do so.  The game is further drifting into abandonment.  What harm is there in releasing the SDK for the PC version?

-Windebieste.

Agreed. Thanks for doing everything you've done in support for ACM. It may not be the best title of our generation but for it's been worth showing our support towards it, for our Alien(s) fandom if nothing else. I appreciate it and wish something could come from it!!!!

Petition now has 457 sign ups (https://www.change.org/petitions/sega-of-america-corporation-gearbox-software-demiurge-studios-please-release-additional-bug-hunt-dlc-for-aliens-colonial-marines).  Almost halfway there.

For a game based on movies that are more than quarter of a century old, it still aint too late to make your voice heard.

Sign up.  Or resign.   What kind of fan are you?
