Man that would suck  :-\ They probably want to follow the footsteps of Deadpool and release it early in the year and not in the summer, that probably wouldnt work for next year so they go with 2018. Whatever is best for the movie.

There's a few Twitter accounts mentioning it but the only site to have it up is CB.com and they don't provide a source.

Shouldn't it be "Scheduled THE PREDATOR"?
Predator was released on June 12 1987.

Sweet! Wonder if we'll get a new race of preds? Or giant amazonian yautja females perhaps? Or one pred thats escaped and is running loose in a facility or ship and an elite crew have to hunt it down but instead find themselves being hunted? Or the predator arena idea that was pitched so long ago? Or a detective story set in a noir steampunk future mega metropolis? Oh the possibilities!

The movie wasn't officially in production. It was officially stated that Shane Black will direct the next Predator movie. They had to get a script done in the meantime. Only now they've finally stated a release date and can begin production.

It will be 2018 for sure because they moved up Alien by 2 months which gives more time for Alien to be in theaters and come out on Dvd right when Predator releases. Seems perfect I think

We're already a chunk of the way into 2016. There's no way this was ever going to be coming out next year unless they rushed the thing to hell and back.

If the March 2018 date is true, that's honestly sooner than I was expecting. That means they'd probably be getting into filming very soon, probably within the next couple months.

So the movie is going to be release in 2018? Good.. I'll be thirty by then and years ago, that was the age I pretty much set on retiring from the fandom! I don't mean to say that in a bad way but... I wanted to let go by that age. I just hope that this movie will be a good note I retire on or it's good enough to where I still want to be actively part of it!

I hope they really put a lot of talent and money into making the suit(s). I want something at least on par with the first two movies and since its 2016 they should even surpass those pfx. Also I hope they get Ian Whyte back to play the title creature.

I want to see some him hunting some crazy E.T. monster
(not ALIEN) at some point.

It was similar in 2009 when Alien Prequel (Protetheus) and Predators were comming. We all know how it turned out, so i suggest not to get super hyped yet. You might burn yourself in the end  :-\

I'm cautious about this already. I'm not getting my hopes up... For me this will be the determining film whether I want to stay or go.

I really want this movie to be something I agree with, because so far.. everything else I find not so agreeable.

im just awaiting the casting news , no Schwarzenegger im not watching this in theatre's , im not saying make him the star but something more interesting then a cameo , or at the very least some involvement from the survivor's from predators, which I doubt will get anything I mentioned because they waited this long to release a sequel hoping this time around they can get more money from the box office to kick start a new trilogy, on a side note I hope its in 3d, had predators been released in 3d the film would of been bigger at that time and we would of got a sequel to the film a couple years after its release .

I can wait, but i was really hoping for a 2017 release... i just want a good movie, i (mostly) enjoyed everything we got so far with the 3 Predator movies, but i would just love to have something which is smart, suspenseful and original again, something which is not just enjoyable but really great.

After Predators i said the series is done, there doesn't have to be another movie, because it just felt repetitive after the last one, but with Black they really got the right guy for this.

So yes, the people saying "don't get your hopes up" are kind of understandable, but if we can't be excited about a guy who wrote stuff like Lethal Weapon writing and directing a Predator movie then what's left? This time, we have all the right reasons to look forward to a new movie.

It really doesn't have to be. The Predator concept is just so flexible! They need to take a risk and do something different with it.

Technically yes, Dekker wrote the script, but with a treatment by Black and he also oversaw the whole process = If he didn't like something, it will get changed as he has total control.

It really is and i really hope they do something different with it this time around, i really loved what Black did with the Mandarin in Iron Man 3, not saying i want this for The Predator obviously, but i liked the twist, you didn't see this coming and i would just love to be surprised again, that's what was missing from the last one, i just don't want "more of the same" this time around.

And leave the nostalgia out, we get it, the first one is great, don't remind us, go on and do it yourself. If i see another beanpole covered in mud yelling "Kill me, I'm here!" i'm gonna hang myself.

Whilst I'm not that committed to my outrage, I agree with the sentiment.  :P I do hate constant callbacks and whilst I don't think they're as prominent in Predators are people make out, in general I hate them. I don't want to see any repeat dialogue or situations in this one.

Some people over emphasize Predators 2010 way too much. It had homages/ Easter eggs to the first movie which is very cool in a sequel to do. It didn't have that much to the point it was the same thing over again. Yes it did have one scene that was identical like the waterfall scene which I really like because it was so cool the way it was done with the Spyder cam. That's the scene were I think the fear really sinks into the characters and the viewers themselves. It was just done so awesome seeing the Falcon POV "Eye in the sky". These characters are safe no where. Predators will always have a special place in my heart I don't care what ANYONE thinks of it. Predators 2010 is truly badass and a classic. One badass film till the end. Predators only has a few nods to the 1st film with the exception of one copied scene but does so much good in this one. Works extremely well. And we finally got to see a Human Sword Vs Predator Blade fight which was done extremely well and very authentic to how it's done in the real world. ( I know because I read about it). I love Predators 2010 :D

No, Predator 2 had easter eggs/homages to the first movie, Predators on the other hand ripped off whole scenarios from the first movie.

Royce setting up traps covered in mud yelling "kill me, I'm here"
Lawrence fishburne wispering "over here" followed by Royce saying "what the f**k are you", both from the first movie
Nikolai carrying a minigun and generally looking like a Blaine rip-off
the whole goupe firing all at the same time into the jungle (the shot is even framed the same way)
a character (mombasa) that can sense the Predator in the trees followed by "what is it?"
a character left behind to fight the Predator with a sword (even same score for the scene)
the characters hiding in the jungle hearing something (again using the same score, making the scene that could actually be suspenseful feel like a cheap knock-off)
waterfall scene
royce skewering a cockroach and looking at it (instead of a scorpion)

There is even more, and some of the things i like (like the eye-flash from the Predator) but in the movie it feels just like this stuff is way too overused, yes, the movie gave us a couple of new things, like the dogs, which i like, but they are in it for five minutes, we only ever get a glimpse of the falcon and that's basically it. New clan of better Predators? Bigger and more evil? Well, 3 of them couldn't take out a bunch of criminals where in the first movie one "normal" one took out a whole team of experienced soldiers... ohh the logic...

To each his own, but for me, this is by far the weakest of the 3 movies.

Well, 3 of them couldn't take out a bunch of criminals where in the first movie one "normal" one took out a whole team of experienced soldiers... ohh the logic...

To each his own, but for me, this is by far the weakest of the 3 movies.
Predators was the weakest out of the three but not a bad movie on its own.

But those are subtle nods nothing too extreme. Royce did reference Dutch at the beginning of the fight but it works because he was trying to get Mr Blacks attention. I really do not understand the criticism for this film at all. People will say it's the exact same thing ( which I disagree 100%) but was it BAD?? Let's just say it was a shot for shot remake which it is NOT that does not make it bad! You still have A Oscar winning actor as your lead as well as the other actors all did amazing. Predators nods were only Subtle SUBTLE with the exception of ONE scene identical but people will jump on the hate wagon for this film and say it sucked because it was a remake of Predator. This film was hard R from the start you have great actors a Director who knows how to keep the  suspense flowing through. I have seen Nimrods Antals Vacancy and what a great suspenseful thriller it was. Armored was good too with Laurance Fishburne as well in it so this guy has a good track wreckord so far. To each there own but I just don't understand the hate for this film and Predator 2 as well.

I don't hate the movie, i like it overall, but even the people who love the movie will say that the movie uses way too many "homages", using a lot less and actually replacing them with original ideas would have really helped the movie stand on it's own. I actually quite like Brody as Royce and i will still say they casted him right by going into a different direction... only to have him mutter Schwarzenegger one-liners though? They could have done better. Predators at times feels really great and it starts as a hell of a ride, i love the first 15 - 20 minutes, but then the movie starts to feel like a high budget youtube-fan film that ran out of ideas in the middle of the movie.

Whilst I think the issue with the homages in Predators is often blown out of proportion but I do hate the reuse of dialogue. And I hate it most sequels. If I have one wish for The Predator it is to not hear a single piece of dialogue from the older movies.

Very well put. Seriously insted of giving us more of strange alien game preserve world, we have earth like jungle with nearly nothing new or interesting.  Noland was a waste. Predator mythos could have been so enriched that way.

March '18? ???
Why do they think this is a good date to relase The Predator? We have to wait 2 year from now for a movie wich has a final script since last November and drafting started around summer 2014...they bring Covenant to August so they cant play Predator in July?

Withoute the 2017 relase Fox miss the 30th anniversary to celebrate the original and even the summer seson which could make more money for the film.

2017 is also an important date for the series because of 1987 1997..2017 could be the present day set of the story as the Predators visiting Eart in every ten years.2007 should be for Predators.
Predators story could work almost the same if it takes place in South America on Earth. The film sets in an earth like jungle as Master said .
With little differences like Noland could land with the others and part of the most of the movie and getting crazy just like he did.Royce with the group cant get out of the area until they cant kill the Predators no matter they on Eart or not just like in the original.
The movie could work with only one yautja as well and in the end Royce and Isabell could walk away from the scene just like they did(they thought what? They've seen new group arriving for new hunt and they smoothly walking away..what??:-)) because they on Earh in South America. Now..lets find a way home ::)

I think March is a good date because it's the beginning of Spring and its away from all the Summer Blockbuster movies that are going to make a lot of money. It's cool because you don't see that much big titles come out in the beginning of the year. Alien comes out in August which it will be in theaters at least 3 to 4 months and the remaining 4 months will be when the Bluray comes out.

Whilst I generally agree with you, Mike, I disagree here. Nolan was one of the disappointments of Predators to me. He came across far too comical in his portrayal and was barely in it.

That actually makes it worse, because since we obviously don't get that movie, his character was really a waste.

His only purpose was to tell us the difference between the two Predators, slowing down the pace of the movie while he's at it.

Then they blast his ass off in a ridiculous CGI Explosion minutes later, again, they could have done so much better/more with the character, Fishburne is great, but greatly underused here.

Yeah, Noland really was wasted. It was a great opportunity to see someone who'd been driven genuinely insane by all the carnage they'd witnessed and experienced while trapped on this alien planet for years, but the writing and performance were so cartoony and over-the-top it killed any serious undertones the part could've had.

Fishburne's normally great, but he kinda sucked in Predators.

Also I don't think he was a waste because Noland said he survived for 10 seasons which is along long time but then he made a run for it and Tracker found him like that! And he was killed so fast. I think it goes to show that this planet is VERY dangerous and Noland is considered very lucky he survived that long before. Noland and Royce were both the ultimate survivors but when Noland decloacks behind Royce earlier in the film you can't help but get chills that Noland is just so badass for surviving on this Planet full of danger.

Noland looked cool for about a second when he decloaked and had that old school biomask and weapon, then when he took his mask off he looked like Lawrence Fishburne just walked off the CSI set.  He had supposedly survived 10 seasons?!  Really?  He must have hunted and ate really well every day and had a Gillette razor in that hole of his, because he was completely shaven and overweight.  Ever watch the show Naked and Afraid?  Those people lose about 18-25 pounds in 21 days, and look gnarly.  And his character had so many inconsistencies it drove me crazy.  He can smell them, and has beaten some Predators in his day, but runs right into one later.  It just didn't work.  But as others have said, please don't ever reuse Predator dialogue in another again.  Period.  No one ever say "Get to the Choppa" again, not even Arnold if he returns.

Well it would work I would think because you have 3 new Predators hunting down Noland but the war between the predators is worse than the 1st time and Nolands in the middle of it. Same setting but it gets deeper into the planet itself. After all this is space. You get a good writer a good director that can make this story great interesting and stretch it out for 2 hrs. Make it a horror movie like Predators was.

Easily the worst part of the movie, his portrayal of a crazy person was both cringe worthy and laughable. On top of that like everyone has said, he didn't look at all like someone who had been stranded there for 10 seasons.

Interesting thought WhiteRabbit! Yes could be very true in that Noland has survived for 10 seasons and killed 3 Predators during that duration. 3 Predators is a very good kill score in that they are almost impossible to see and kill. There cloaking is way more advanced then Anytime and Cityhunter. And that there always trying to make themselves into better killers. Also I love the horror aspect of Predators. If you listen to all the Predators interviews on youtube with Nimrod Antal and RR they both wanted to make Predators a horror film, and it shows with the spooky imagery at Nolands hideout, the hunting camp. All over the film. One imagery I love was when Royce had put a Red light outside the door to were they stayed and the Red light was highlighting everything to see if any Predators were near by. But what I really love about that scene is when the group start leaving at that exit within the Red mist and its highlighting all of them. They are all equipped with weaponry too. It Really shows that there all scared but yet all Predators themselves together waiting for the other Predators. I just really like that fear and tension they put in the characters. Scene was really Badass!!!!!!

Noland "  You see They learn... They adapt... You want to survive you dig in deep and stay hid."

Maybe the tracker pred was just taking precautionary measures? Nolan DID kill a few of his yautja friends. Cant do that without being sly. In my mind the tracker killed Nolan out of revenge for his fallen comrades and as a safety measure so as to not end up like past failures. Also Danny Glover's Harrigan would have been a better choice of crazy man over Lawrence Fishburne imo  ;D

Some people over emphasize Predators 2010 way too much. It had homages/ Easter eggs to the first movie.

Predators was the weakest out of the three but not a bad movie on its own.

'Meg' has a huge hype train behind it - it's been famously held up for years. Plus, there really hasn't been a serious attempt at a film dealing with megalodon. Contrast that against another 'Predator' film and casual audiences would at least be split, if not have a preference for the novelty of the giant shark film.

Plus, there's the 'date film' angle... Guys have a better chance convincing someone to go to a generic monster flick than one which famously revolves around skinning and ripping skulls out of people. :)

'Deadpool' was more subversive and had the comedy angle going for it - it had wider appeal. You have to play release dates carefully when it comes to something with the type of subject material 'Predator' films do.

Well at least they've not brought the release so soon that they're rushing the production schedule. 6 months after Alien Covenant we'll be treated to a Predator flick. Wonder if Neill' Blomkamp's Alien project will going in production in 2018 for a release in 2019 to coincide with the 40th Anniversary of Alien.

As DeadPool would put it "These Timelines are so confusing ." Fox's Marvel liscenced properties art their top priority seeing as super hero films are the hot genre and they have to make a film based off the license or else the rights revert back to Marvel.

Speaking of which there was a rumor that Fox were contemplating reviving the Alien vs Predator movies and subsequent Alien Predator films as an expanded cinematic universe not unlike Marvel's avengers.

Tempting as that sound it dos pose as problematic at guaranteeing the film will always live up to audience expectations, not to confuse the integrity of either brands. We probably won't see that any time soon. If such an approach led to guaranteed quality films I'd be in full support, but that's not reality.

@ XENOMORPHOSIS

Just wanna say that I think we'll hear more about Neill's Alien movie by next year.

Think about Fox is handling their X-Men movies: They're multiple timelines, numerous continuities and retcons.

A serious giant shark movie... the shallows is opening next month. It looks like an honest try. I still feel bad for the now 2nd rate predator though.

It's not about losing, it's about Meg cutting into it's audience. The same kind of people who will see The Predator are more likely to also be interested in Meg, so there'll be conflict. The people going to see Fifty Shades won't give a damn about The Predator, so they won't be losing any tickets to another movie.

So it's about losing butts in the seats..... yep, the predator has gone Yellow. No, no, I totally understand what you mean but it is what it is. Fifty Shades was extremely successful in the US South. So there's that.

Well this fan isn't going to be conflicted as to which movie to see. Once they get a trailer out, the hype train will leave the station. I wish they wouldn't make moves like this, basically double booking with another big sequel. As much as they want it to be, The Predator isn't going to be the "Avengers for Fox" and pull in a billion dollars. I believe it will do well but not as good as they want. Time will tell though.

I highly doubt they're expecting it to make a billion dollars.

If they expected that much from it, they wouldn't care that it was releasing alongside Meg.

To fathom a guess, 380 million is the goal.

Still, it's hard to believe there is a base large enough to choose Meg over the predator on opening night/weekend. If there is... then why not see both!

Would be cool to see a taller Pred in the next film. I know right now there 7-8ft tall. But it would be cool to see a 9 foot tall Predator. Ofcoure it would have to be Cgi as there is nobody out there that tall to play him. But I would like to see a 9ft tall Pred side by side a 16 ft tall Queen Alien. Would be a cool sight.

It was pushed a month back so it didn't have to compete with a giant shark movie called Meg. Yea I don't get it either but that's the reason, apparently.

While I'm not complaining about the movie coming out earlier (cause you know, we get to see it sooner), but wouldn't the 50 Shades sequel provide more competition since it has a built-in "fanbase" and the first one made over 500k worldwide?

The first one also beat out Kingsman during the opening week of it's release:

FSOG: $85,171,450
KINGSMAN: $36,206,331

Granted Predator has a larger fanbase than Kingsman, I still think it's a riskier move then releasing it against a shark movie. Also have to remember that Shane Black has stated that the film will be an "event film" and will have a larger budget, which obviously makes it's even more riskier.

I believe Predator fans and 50 Shades of Grey fans couldn't be more opposite of each other. There's no competition there.

I think 50 Shades of Grey box office success was a fluke. A cleaver marketing ploy. After the next one bombs, 50 shades of Darker or whatever, The Predator will eat it alive in 2018.

The Kingsman comic was pretty niche, from what I understand. 50 Shades was based on a huge novel that millions of people had read. Recognisable names almost always beat unknown or original properties.

Predator is very much a recognisable brand.

I agree with most of you that it shouldn't be problematic due to the audience that both films will attract.

Really just hoping that 'The Predator' will be more successful (and better overall) than Predators.

Nothing screams "cool" as a prepared Predator. XD
