This film just seemed to jump from one section to the next...

I have the same impression, as if, have been certain episodes cut there in another order, it might not affect the film in general (and the following scene in particular) in any way

Thats an interesting viewpoint seeing as that film defined many things about the genre, at least in film.  One of the first movies to do many things as cool as it did them.
