Title: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Post by: Nightlord on Feb 05, 2013, 04:47:51 PM
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gIsYuPIKco&feature=player_embedded# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8gIsYuPIKco&feature=player_embedded#)

QuoteFurther Witcher 3 details reportedly picked from Game Informer's new issue by a digital subscriber who posted them on NeoGAF follow:
•World supposedly 20% bigger than Skyrim's, says development team. [Tentative, obviously]
•30-40 minutes to cross world on Horseback
•New streaming technology (CDRED Engine 3)
•Geralt's Memory is restored
•No chapters/acts
•Dude is DONE fighting for everyone else
•Everything from solving MYSTERIES to slaying monsters
•Coming out on "all top-of-the-line" consoles

Monster hunting:
•Clues build up information (like a Bestiary perhaps?)
•Books garner information about monsters
•Townsfolk provide information
•Potions and such are important
•Time of day and other conditions affect where monsters appear, and their abilities

Combat info
•Critical strikes in areas that matter depending on how much you learn about said monster
•You can disable a vampires poisoning attack by hitting its venom gland (Vampires are poisonous?) or skewer BOTH ITS HEARTS with a thrust attack (instant kill)
•Monsters drop loot like unobtainable alchemical and crafting ingredients for unique potion, mutagen and item crafting.
•Provides income as well

Narrative info
•Lowest level = free form activities like crafting, monster slaying (seems to be much more extensive this time around) and questing.
•Next level = Political situation of Nilfgaardian invastion is resolved through a core plotline for each area. These areas? -> Skellige, Novigrad and No Mans Land!
•Final level = Geralt's main plot line, his search for his loved ones, and the chase of the Wild Hunt.

Other info:
•Enemy AI completely rebuilt, scripted bosses out
•Environmental combat 'contributions' (a dozen types of interactive objects) - wasp hive irritated using Aard
•Magical signs retooled
•The magic tree advancement allows secondary sign forms = ie. Igni and a 360-degree blast
•Other trees, Swordsmanship and Alchemy
•New strikes under Swordsmanship, boosts like improved stamina and parrying
•Mutation mechanic under a different development path
•Team aware of frustrations of inventory management in The Witcher
•Crafting critical to maximize Geralts potential, but weapons and armor can be found in many ways
•Players can customize their crafted weapons with some components, ie, monster scales for leather in armor
•Each armor piece has unique appearance, new cloth simulation tech.
•Barber is in from the get go. Dyeing hair is OUT OF QUESTION, White Wolf.

Awesome, looks like there'll be alot more scope in this, I hope they can pull it off.

They're clearly going for a TES-ish feel when it comes to gameplay and content. Sounds great.

Quote"CD Projekt RED has provided the screenshots you see here from its current in-game assets running on its Internal PC development hardware. However, the renderer - the part of the engine that translates the game files into what you ultimately see on screen - is still in development and will boast significant improvements by the time The Witcher 3 ships. "Right now you see the game in the old renderer, but it's going to be taken to a truly next level," says gameplay producer Marek ZSiemak. In particular, the developers tell us that skin shaders and the dynamic lighting model will be markedly more advanced in the final version."

A beefy PC has no problems whatsoever with that engine, but this is clearly coming out for next-gen consoles. PS3/360 versions would have to be downgraded as f**k.

And those screens aren't very high quality. I saw another somewhere a couple of days ago that looked much better.

I don't think it's coming to this gen at all.
QuoteCD Projekt has said The Witcher 3 release date will fall in 2014. It will be available on PC and "all high-end platforms available."

If it was coming to this gen they would have no reason not to announce it, in which case we don't have to worry about the current consoles holding it down, and like they said these images are from the WIP renderer so the final thing will look alot better.

I hope this doesn't have that problem.

well i see that you can get on a list there but not really order it. and the list do not guarantee your copy it is just if someone cancels their order and the PC one was sold out there in the day they started with pre-orders. you sure you didn't just register to the list?

I wouldn`t worry. When they see how many people ordered Collectors Edition they`ll definitelly produce more. I`m still waiting for my confirmation mail, but I think I ordered not registered on wait list.

don't think they will produce more, from the begining it was known there's just limited amount of copies and i would bet you just registered for the list as the edition is sold out there for quite some time.

As far as I can remember there was similar case with Witcher 1 and 2. I have both of them (Collectors edition) and I don`t remember to order them half a year earier, so they must have had additional copies. Also, it`s allot of additional money for them. I dubt they`ll pass such opportunity.

Looks amazing, glad they seem to have switched out the roll for a dodge. Rolling all over the place in Witcher 2 was so silly.

Think I may help the tree in my game, those Witches don't seem too nice.

QuoteWe expect support if we encounter any problems, we love updates constantly improving the experience, and we feel really special when we receive free content that gives us more than we initially paid for. It doesn't have to be huge, it can be an awesome skin for a character, or an extra sword, or armor. Unfortunately this treatment is quite rare these days. As gamers, we nowadays have to hold on tight to our wallets, as surprisingly right after release, lots of tiny pieces of tempting content materialize with a steep price tag attached. Haven't we just paid a lot of cash for a brand new game? At CD PROJEKT RED, we strongly believe this is not the way it should work and, with The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, we have decided to do it differently.

That's a good thing for them to do, though the game is still a way off and these add-ons seem small so why not just put them in the game for launch.

Also pretty funny EA got a poll made which is basically Witcher vs DAI and DA is being BTFO.

http://gamingbolt.com/developers-respond-to-witcher-3-downgrade-accusations (http://gamingbolt.com/developers-respond-to-witcher-3-downgrade-accusations)

CD PROJEKT RED's North American Community Manager for The Witcher

"Good morning. So, I have always been in favor of telling the truth to your community as much as possible. I think this is a good opportunity to give your community an inside look at what happens, so here ya go.

We initially didn't have a new video scheduled for release at this time. The game team is finishing the game, Christmas is coming and January & February will be very busy, so there wasn't a video scheduled to be made. Then, we learned we were nominated for Most Anticipated Game at the VGAs (which we won. Woot!). So a decision was made to create a video to show at the VGAs (whether we won or lost). The video team did a fantastic job getting a video put together in the time-frame they had to make the show's deadline. However, it was not compressed to the correct rate and did not look as good on YouTube as it does in the actual game.

After seeing concerns from fans that the game has been downgraded (which it ABSOLUTELY HAS NOT), the team recompressed the video and it is now being uploaded to YouTube and other channels. You should be seeing the new video shortly. Hopefully, it will alleviate your worries about any false graphical downgrade rumors.

Now you know."

Well it's the most overhyped game of 2015 (next to the Nextgen/PC-Version of GTA V), so it's bound to not fulfill every expectation. It keeps on getting compared to Skyrim, altough that game had no worthy story at all, whereas Witcher Games always shine in the plot/story department. Even if it's just a bit better than the Witcher 2 and uses more open world mechanics (which these early reviews clearly indicate), it's gonna be a fantastic game. It's definitely my highest anticipated game of 2015 together with Arkham Knight.

Btw, did they get Charles Dance to voice the king?! Epic!

couple details

QuoteGameplay

There are 4 difficulties (easy, medium, hard and dark) which differ in the skill of the monsters you face. Hitpoints remain the same.
You can bargain for more money after finishing your monster contract through some sort of minigame.
The side quests are extremely well made with great writing and branching.
Potions are a necessity on higher difficulty levels. You only need to craft a potion once and you can refill it if you have enough alcohol present. Potions are upgradeable for stronger effects. Stronger potions will increase your toxicity more
Novigrad and No Man's Land are indeed one single map, much bigger than Skyrim. The isles of Skellige form the other big part of the game. Next to that, there are 5-6 other separated locations, including Kaer Morhen.
No enemy respawning or at the least not very frequently
Best items in the game must be crafted
They were very impressed with the story branching and how it is not always obvious. Correcting 'wrong' choices by saving/reloading will be very difficult if not impossible.
Contrary to BioWare games dialogue options are not good or bad, this you will have to figure out for yourselves.
They really liked the in-game card game Gwent, praising its design.
The game features two really big cities: Novigrad and Oxenfurt, both very lively.
The are of No Man's Land features 25 smaller towns, some of which are the size of Flotsam from The Witcher 2.
Geralt can rob people, although the system is too easy and feels a bit lacking.
Journalist (level 7) was one shotted by a wyvern (level 24). No level scaling.
Ciri sequences will be (in total) 5-10h and feel more like an action-adventure game than an RPG
Extra storage can be made by crafting saddle bags for your horse.
Many small details such as Roach stopping to eat apples from a basket
All equipped items are visible in-game on Geralt
Fist-fighting is back, this time no QTE
World never felt empty
Journalist didn't encounter any simple fetch quests

Technical

The HUD is fully customizable. Icons and quest markers on the map can also be deactivated. Audiovisual hints (e.g. people screaming for help) will be present if you wish to do so.
Journalist encountered no clone NPC's
Controller feels superior to keyboard+mouse.
The extremely annoying doors from The Witcher 2 are gone. Doors are now opened automatically, no button pressing. No loading times for entering buildings either.
Day 1 patch confirmed
Xbox One resolution will stay at 900p
Geralts beard will grow over time
Switching between controller and mouse (for menu's) is easy and fluid
Most impressive dynamic weather system in any game he has ever played
They encountered very few bugs, no crashes of freezes.
Ultra seems to have a big effect on the quality of vegetation and character models[
No slider for LOD
Visual gore more prominent than in The Witcher 2

Yeah it's really being praised a lot, like I expected. Gamepro, one of the toughest german reviewers gave it 92 % (first 93 %, but after stumbling on some bugs they lowered it 1 % ) which makes it on par with GTA V and even slightly better (!) than Skyrim.

Here's a list of rankings:

Got the Runeword for permanent arrow/bolt deflection though. Best upgrade ever. I basically have Quen infused skin.

This f**king trailer man. The music is so out of place, and it's so awesome.

I am just in love with the gameplay of Witcher 3. You really do feel like Batman if you take your time and prepare well for a fight.

Spoiler
Encountered my first Bruxae. I could have just ran in and swung my sword like an idiot, but I checked Beastiary. Okay, Vampire. Super speed, invisibility, a grab move. So, I put Vampire Oil on my sword, enter the fight, she's about to rush, instantly cancel her with Moon Dust. Can't disappear now. While she's recoiling, slap a Yrden trap on the ground and chug some Black Blood. Doesn't matter what angle she wants to come at me from now, she has to wade through a slowing, poisonous haze of magical and alchemical pain.

Much more fun and rewarding then just going in like an idiot.

Wow, that was visually amazing.

Spoiler
So, I have Quen fully maxed out. If anything touches me, there's a damaging explosion, and the shell can now take a good deal of punishment. There's a part in the main quest where you're attacked by two Bruxae. Those are the Nightcrawler girls from before. They turn invisible and can pull some really fast attacks. Normally, I just hit them with Moon Dust (which I have upgraded to permanently effect monsters) but I didn't get the chance. So they both come streaking at me, becoming visible every time they attack. It really, honestly looked like some nonsense JRPG super attack, where the character clones themselves and teleports about the enemy to hit them a few dozen times.

Only every single one of their attacks would trigger a detonation from my Quen shield. B-b-b-b-b-bwoom! Then my stamina recharges, slap palm on the ground, massive radial blast of super cooled air (Oh yeah, I have ice magic now. Isn't Toussaint full of hidden wonder?) that knocks them back and coats them in frost. Now their slower then me :3 And now their heads are gone.

Geralt is a f**king Demigod at this point. I'm level 50. Levels really matter, especially when you find the secret extra tier of Mutagens.
Title: Re: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
Post by: Darkness on Jul 05, 2016, 06:29:48 PM
I finished the DLC at level 53 and I still didn't max them out. I wasn't keen that you can only have certain mutagens active at one time.

I also just got done playing Witcher 2 for the first time. World of difference between that and this game.

I may go to NG+ and try a Trial of Grasses build. Think maybe Grandmaster Cat gear and Aerondight sword, focus on fast melee and alchemy. Basically a glass berserker, press an attack until Trial of Grasses warns of a counter attack and evade it.

Shame, but it's a CDProjekt release in 2022. What else did I expect.

RTX and DLSS are implemented poorly, to the point of DLSS not offering any performance gain or quality gains no matter the settings but it still tanks performance.

Steam Overlay is broken, can't take screenshots.

Some reports from various users indicate that some of the mods that brought into the vanilla package aren't compatible with each other at certain points in the game. Can't confirm this one myself, I seem to have no issues on this front.

I have all my settings up to max and my FPS is around 90, but it's jerky as if it's being pushed through a 45FPS pipeline.

QuoteIt Looks Like CDPR And Witcher Author Andrzej Sapkowski Are Friends Again

It's a Witcher miracle!

This week, the author of The Witcher novels visited the CD Projekt Red studio. While interesting to see the two worlds collide, you may be asking why this is exactly newsworthy. Well, for the past few years, the author and the gaming studio have very publicly been at odds over issues stemming from the game series' creation.

CD Projekt Red took to Twitter to share some photos of Andrzej Sapkowski's visit. They called the trip a "thrilling experience and a privilege". However, a few years ago, this meeting of minds felt impossible.

Back in 2018, it was reported that the Polish author was demanding $16 million in copyright royalties. Initially, Sapkowski agreed to a lump sum payment for CDPR to use The Witcher rights. believing the games would not be a success. Cut to millions of sales later, and the author changed his mind. However, both parties eventually reached a deal.

But that isn't even the full picture. In 2016, Sapkowski aired separate game-related grievances. Specifically, he seemed upset at how the games' success caused issues for him within the publishing world. "The game has caused me a lot of stink and shit ... because the foreign publishers started to use the graphics of the game on the covers," reads a translation of what Sapkowski said at an event.

He continued: "People rejected the book, saying that it is not new, it is game-related. In the sense that a book was written for the game, which – especially in the fantasy genre – we have plenty. I had to fight to prove who was the first."

So, what caused the two to bury the hatchet? It is currently unclear, but it is nice to see the two parties getting along - for now.
