Alright, before you go and post about Disturbed, Slipsuck, and Nickelback, realize they aren't metal at all.

Metal=

Megadeth
Metallica
Slayer
Judas Priest
Pantera
Black Sabbath
Iron Maiden
Motorhead
Black Label Society
Killswitch Engage

and the like.

This story is true.
my dad meet OZZY before he was famous, Ozzy and Black Sabbath performed at a uni so my dad went to watch, but after it was over he went walk about in the uni and found OZZY, OZZY was drawing on a bored and my dad asked what he was doing and OZZY said "If we ever get famous, this is what our album cover is gonna look like" and OZZY showed my dad a pic of a women in front of a house.
Years later Black Sabbath did an album with that women pic.

Cool!  Meeting Ozzy before he was big (back when he could utter complete sentences, lol)

As far as metal, I just sat in on a discussion about Metallica VS. Slayer at www.bloody-disgusting.com  And most of the people agrred that Metallica were the better lyricists while Slayer were the better thrashers. Both were at the forefront of the thrash movement, and I think they both stand on their own merits. Only Slayer isn't run by a short Danish drummer who never shuts his mouth, who thinks he knows it all. ;)

They may not be much on the metal side, but to me, and I've seen them twice in concert and it was awesome, and I'm sure the fellow Englishmen on this site will agree that one of the best bands that have come out of Engaland is.......DEF LEPPARD!!!!!

Wow lots of you people should get to know what metal is.
Just a few bands: Dark Angel, Forbidden, Slayer, Exodus, Razor, MetallicA, Death Angel, Kreator, Sodom, Destruction, Tankard, Coroner, Artillery, Sacred Reich, Wermacht... (note that some of these bands have sold out, so if you want to know what actually is worth listening to, pm me)
Thrash 'till Death!

Also, I hate it when people call Pantera thrash, it ain't. They where glam and then they turned groove "metal"..trendy stuff, not metal.

Pantera's significance towards metal will always be overlooked.  They nearly single handedly kept metal alive during the 90s pop explosion.

Can't forget Black Label Society
Arch Enemy
Nile
Children of Bodom
Hammerfall

I suggest you check out several real metal forums, like the Destruction forum, and see what people over there think about Pantera. (and the other bands you sayd)

Good names you're mentioning here.

Tankard, huh? "Zombie Attack" was a cool album.  Remember 2 Australian bands called "Dead On" and "Mortal Sin?" They were good too.

Death Angel!  I saw them in 1990 with War And Peace and Forbidden. This was when they released the "Act 3" album.

Razor had that ond video for Evil Invaders. The "Violent Restitution" album had that cool cover with the chainsaw.

Kreator credits a british power trio named Raven (another fave of mine) with the reason for their formation.  The song "Lambs To The Slaughter" is covered by Kreator on one of their albums.

I also saw Raven in 1983 when a fledgeling Metallica opened up for them on the "Kill Em' All For One" tour.

And lest we forget Exodus, who taught all of us how to do The Toxic Waltz ;)

You saw Raven and MetallicA in 1983? Wow, that's awesome!
About Death Angel, I'm only into theyr "The Ultra-Violence" stuff, "Kill as one" and "Mistress of Pain" are my favorite songs from them.

Ultra Violence is a great album. I like "Evil Priest" and "Voracious Souls."    They have a
new album out called "The Art Of Dying" that the critics devoured. They said that Death Angel sounds like they were gone "for 15 seconds instead of 15 years." and the album sold reasonably well.

I also liked a Norwegian band called "Candlemass."  The vocalist had a fantastic voice. I call their music "opera metal" lol because of the vocals, but the lyrics are somewhere between LOTR style stuff to downright D&D stuff and really dark medieval style stuff.

Metal Church's first singer David Wayne, had a great voice too, the guy could scream!  Remember "Watch The Children Pray" and "Beyond The Black"?

If you guys haven't checked, Megadeth has the Gears of War song for download on their mainpage.

And they also have a video of them playing "washington is next" on their myspace page.

Megadeth is definitely back to thrash metal.

Pantera is one of the greatest metal bands ever, they where in the top 15 on VH1's top 40 metal songs ever, they will always be considered great. I don't listen to Pantera's earleir albums, I have 51 Pantera songs, my favorite album is Vulgar Display of Power.

R.I.P. Dimebag Darrel

p.s. I have 906 songs on my iPod video + 83 music videos go to my youtube to see a few.

Good thing they're back too. Dave was said to have hurt his hand so bad that he might not have ever played again.  One thing I wish he would do though, is to shut up about Metallica. He dosen't seem to realize that another door opens up for every one that closes, and he became a big star in his own right.

There again, Dave was no bowl of cherries. When he was wasted he practically pissed everyone in the metal community off because he made threats he couldn't live up to. I don't think there was anyone in the 80's metal scene that didn't want to take Dave by the hair and run his head into a wall.

Hell yes! But judging by your name you listen to the newer Sepultura stuff. Back in the day they where a great death/thrash band. They really reached their thrash metal sound with Beneath the Remains, followed by the album Arise. They don't deserve to be discussed beyond Arise.
"Antichrist" is one of my favorite songs from Sepultura.

I like most types of metal, but I usually only listen to "true" metal, as in not that MTV nu-metal and alt-metal stuff (there are a few exceptions: I like Rammstein [industrial rock] and System of a Down [alt-metal]).

My favorite genres, however, are: Power Metal, Thrash Metal, Black Metal, Progressive/Technical Death Metal, and NWBHM (New Wave of British Heavy Metal, eg. Iron Maiden & Judas Priest).

Dekapitator and Glock 17: I see you guys like thrash metal, and I saw that you mentioned Kreator. Yeah! Kreator rocks! I only have two of their albums though; "Pleasure to Kill" and "Enemy of God." I thought both the albums were good, but some people say that Kreator "sold out" with "Enemy of God." What do you guys think of that? And, what other albums by them would you recommend?

By the way, does anyone here know of the Jazz/Proggesive Death Metal band called Atheist? I think they're awesome.

Title: Re: Metal.

i hate the term "real metal"

its too wide a style of music now to just classify stuff as "real metal"

slayer-thrash metal
megadeth-progressive metal
metallica-more commercially accessable metal
motley crue-glam metal
def leppard-pop metal

then you have stuff like early judas priest which is yeha i forget the term, but it has british and new wave in it.

pantera are groove metal

then theres nu-metal for bands like early linkin park and papa roach

marilyn manson- industrial metal

sleaze metal- (new style of crossover) which is basically guns n roses crossed with metal

so check bands like CRASHDIET, Hardcore Superstars latest material etc.

Theres just way too much.

Oh i forgot to mention, there is "crap metal" which is shit like bring me the horizon and bands where they constantly double pedal and hit the instruments whilst the vocalist impersonates a pig.

I live and breath Thrash. (https://www.avpgalaxy.net/forum/proxy.php?request=http%3A%2F%2Fi144.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fr177%2FThrashaholiX%2Fhorns.gif&hash=a5963c879b1c4efa196719b6dcd7c1438c2d96f6)
Pleasure to Kill is one insane album. If you really like it I recommend getting Endless Pain and Terrible Certainty. Extreme Aggression and Coma of Souls, though different (especially Coma of Souls) will offer plenty of Thrash Metal carnage. I mean, just listen to the main riff at the start of Coma of Souls (song) and you'll be blown away.
I'd say they sold out with Renewal. They pushed it too far with that album. When I listen to the song Love Us or Hate Us (great song from Extreme Aggression) and hear the lyrics I think to myself "If you still sing this nowadays you're one of the biggest hypocrites ever".
Enemy of God... I never listened to the whole album. The title track is very thrashy at some points, the ending part with it's soft (and commercial) melody sucks. Impossible Brutality didn't impress me.

@ mrlee:
When someone says real metal, they don't mean to bring all genres of metal under one name (real metal). It's a term that reffers to, well, metal, excluding poser bands like Children of Bodom or Cradle of Filth, which are not metal. Why is that? Because though these two bands might have a "metallic" sound they ain't metal. Metal ain't only about sound. It's about living and breathing it, doing it for the scene and fans, not jumping on some bandwagon to earn money and get famous. Plus, a commercial "metal" band sounds way different from a real one.

Slayer where Thrash, but they've changed a lot, especially since Kerry King discovered slipknot and considered them the revivors of metal. Let's not even mention Metallica, the most famous example of sellouts.
Pantera are just another group that jumped on the bandwagon. Anselblow considers himself "the King of Heavy Metal". ::)
Gtg update my list.

Hehe, those days must have been cool, with music getting wilder and glam being bashed. That was because the guys from MetallicA viewed the glam guys as posers, that where giving metal a soft, commercial aspect. "If you came here to see spandex and big hair this ain't you'r band." - MetallicA's "warcry"
Talent. I heard a few glam songs myself, and MetallicA's stuff are harder to preform. You probably heard the new metallica, because yeah, these days Hetfield's voice sucks, Kirk's pretty sloppy and annoying with his wah-wah, Lars is lazy...
But there was a time when both Hetfield and Kirk shredded like mad, and Hetfield's voice was really good.

i have listened to all metallica albums.

i know various 80s bands who wore spandex who piss over metallica.

even ones im not a major fan on piss over them, take whitesnake 1987 onwards.

Shotgun Messiahs guitarist could also piss over kirk anyday.

RATT, there first 3 albums have amazing riffs and guitar solos.

just because they have catchy chorus;s and look cooler doesnt mean they have no talent.

apparently this band are "hair metal"

personally i think that can kick the shit out of term "hair metal"

Those are bands/people I didn't hear songs from.
Thrash is generally harder to play than glam.
Still, the reason MetallicA bashed the glam scene didn't have anything to do with talent, it was because they viewed them as "weak" and "fake". (ironic how they would become the same)

well one of the main bands metallica hated was a band called RATT

whilst they did have a very cheesy image, even for a glam band there riffs were bloody good....

here, a song by them.

they do have catchy chorus's and they have cheesy as hell videos, but the music is great.

i forgot to mention DOKKEN also, whos original guitarist george lynch totally owns all.

Lets not forget van halen, they follow, if not started the glam metal formula.

Fav. Megadeth song: ASHES IN YOUR MOUTH

I can't stand Megadeth, no offence.

One of the newer songs, I dont know which, involves him saying "Hello me, its the real me...and hindsights just a bit fuzzy"

That whole section makes me laugh. David Mustaine scuks massive nutz, Metallica was right to boot him.

AWWWW YEAHPANTERA IS FREAKING AMAZING!

I LOVE ALL THE ALBUMS, cept those wacky n' wild power albums early on!

Damageplan was also very good! Different direction. Not a fan of Rebel meets Rebel or Vinnys otehr project. And HELLYEAH, not a fan either. They're like a lovechild of Velvet Revolver and Nickelback, or off the new Avenged Sevenfold.

Dimebag, though, was a martyr to AWESOME METAL! He is a god...\m/- Dime -\m/

METALLICA IS THE GREATEST BAND OF ALL TIME.

Although a good band 20 years ago, they are shite now.

Megadeth has been superior for years.

Why does Kill 'Em All have the fastest solos? Because Dave Mustaine wrote them, and then Kirk performed them when Dave was kicked out.

United Abominations is an incredible return to thrash glory.
The Sytem has failed got them out of the pop rock mess that Risk brought it.

Peace Sells is a landmark thrash album, and Rust in Peace is metal as an artform.

I fu<king hate it...that album and onwards is not Metallica anymore...at least that's how I look at it...but then again one could argue that it brought them to the mainstream and we should be thankful for the exposure...but I disagree...

It brought them to the mainstream and it really caused a loss of the meaning of metal. Hell, metal was almost destroyed in the 90s.

Pantera, and Anthrax really saved metal in the 90s.

Thank God

Also, in the past few months, I have discovered a power metal band by the name of Symphony X.

Quotei hate the term "real metal"

its too wide a style of music now to just classify stuff as "real metal"

Anyone who talks about "real metal" or "tru-metal" and takes the time to split it into endless amounts of sub-genres gets on my nerves.  I just say f**k it, it's all metal and you either like it or you don't.  I am quite sick and tired of some pretentious prick sneering at me because I thought band X might be classed as speed metal when infact it's considered to be thrash metal.  I also get tired of people deciding that band X is/isn't metal based on comparisons against much older bands.  It's fairly pointless.  Metal evolves just like any other music genre, people need to learn to accept change.  It's probably just a bad stereotype but metal elitists strike me as very sad people who clutch desperately to their elitism as it's one of the few things that allow them feel superior to other people.

9 times out of 10 when someone says "Band X isn't metal!" what they really mean is "I don't like that band".  Unfortunately for these people it's too difficult for them to understand that just because they don't like it doesn't mean it isn't metal.

Currently some metal I have been listening to includes;

In Flames (old and new)
All That Remians (mostly new stuff)
Dimmu Borgir (old and new)

Anyone know the Yugoslav metal band:

Divlje Jagode (Wild Strawberries) - Bosnian metal rock band that was (and still is) very popular and successful all over former Yugoslavia. They sold many records and played huge arenas in the 80´s.  In 1987 they released a self-titled album featuring Don Airey (Whitesnake, Deep Purple....) on keyboards.

Playing guitar =/= technical guitar work. Technical guitar work is basically the first must when considering whether a band is metal or not.

Breaking Benjamin use guitars, but they aren't metal now are they?

I will give Slipknot this, they are nu-metal, which isn't metal at all.

Shit metal is still metal.  Deal with it.  Just because Slipknot do not measure up to your personal standards of technicality doesn't mean they are not metal.  Do you think today's RnB (rhythm and blues) is the same as RnB back in the 1950s?  No of course it isn't but musical genres (d)evolve.

There are relatively strict qualifications for classyifying a band as metal.

Slipknot's guitar is slow, not to mention a lack of solos. It's nothing more than guitar punching.

Tell real metalheads that you like Slipknot and they'll laugh in your face.

This place is basically the bible of metal:

http://www.metal-archives.com/ (http://www.metal-archives.com/)

It is ran and supported by metalheads, they categorize thousands of metal bands, and guess what band isn't even on the site?

But please, go on the site, make a thread that says SLIPKNOT RULES AND IS METAL, and see what kind of responses you get.

A bunch of nostalgic, elitist, pricks on the internet say it isn't metal?  OH NOES.

Protip:  They don't get to decide what is and isn't metal.  Try forming your own opinion.

I'm not going to start a "SLIPKNOT RULES" thread because I don't think Slipknot rule.  They are not my cup of tea.  HOWEVER I can accept that they are part of the metal genre without becoming super-defensive and offended.  Guess what?  Just because a band is metal and shit, it doesn't actually degrade bands that are metal and good.  It's only degraded if you allow it to be.

Try forming your own opinion.

I have my own. People who group Slipknot into metal might as well go ahead and slap Linkin Park and MCR in metal as well, which shits on Sabbath, Megadeth, Iron Maident, Judas Priest etc.

I'll drop it.

Dude who the f^&* would consider either of them metal? I agree with you on that shitting on the others though

I think some people just hate slipknot because they look diferent (masks and that sh*t).
I dont judge bands because of how they look, i just enjoy their music.

Slipknot isn´t metal? so what it is?

(Except for Joey, the drummer. He's decent.)

Sometimes music doesnt need to be extremly complex in order to sound good. Like Rammstein, its not very complex and its still awesome.

Good music is that which is technically complex and still sounds good.

all i can say about metal is the song 'the metal' by tenacious D, listen to their lyrics....

You can't kill the metal
The metal will live on
Punk-Rock tried to kill the metal
But they failed, as they were smite to the ground
New-wave tried to kill the metal
But they failed, as they were stricken down to the ground
Grunge tried to kill the metal Ha,hahahahaha
They failed, as they were thrown to the ground
Aargh! yeah!

No-one can destroy the metal
The metal will strike you down with a vicious blow
We are the vanquished foes of the metal
We tried to win for why we do not know

New-wave tried to destroy the metal, but the metal had its way
Grunge then tried to dethrone the metal, but metal was in the way
Punk-rock tried to destroy the metal, but metal was much too strong
Techno tried to defile the metal, but techno was proven wrong
Yea!

Metal!
It comes from hell!

Actually Megadeth is awesome, I just like both them and Slipknot for two seperate reasons. Megadeth is my favorite out of the two, but Slipknot is good for me if you're pissed-off as hell or anyother reason. I just hate it when elitist pricks have to condem some band only for the sake of getting under someone's skin.

Me 2, they were the first heavy band that I started listening to. It was during the times of Untouchables (2002) and I saw the vid of Here to Stay on TV, I was hooked to metal music since then.

I don't listen to Korn anymore, but I do respect them for creating a new style of metal, even though it's not my taste anymore. I saw that they'll bring a new album out called Korn 3 - remember who you are. They even released a song called Oildale, sounds better than their last 2 records.

I'll see them this summer for the second time

i went to ozzfest which was coupled with a metal music festival here called "Download Festival" ozzy sang with Sabbath, i really want to go to ozzfest this year, but i found out about it after i'd already made plans to go to a different festival, which is a lot closer and easier to get to than the dentre of london anyway.

Am I the only metal fan here who despises the majority (not all) of the ultra proud viking metal bands, that take their mythological stuff too serious? They act like they're some kind of metal gods, yet they haven't made anything that people will care about in the next 10 years. No offense to people who like them. They can be sweet sometimes, but I just can't take them seriously. The nordics should stick to playing metal, just not nationalist metal. Because of them, lots of kids who are into metal have started being all "Thor rulez" everywhere. Seriously, that's not what metal is about.

Same thing with folk metal bands, it's a fad now. Every single one of them thinks they're so epic, and feel like they're from Lord Of The Rings or something. Some of them are definetly good, but those boys from Nuclear Blast overproduce them like pop music.

Just my 2 cents.

I hate it too.

I really think Children of Bodom could be so much better if they removed the keyboards from the band, Warmen is just cheese.

That's because their only way of playing keyboards is by playing TONAL music which has NEOCLASSICAL touches of keyboards. They have NO IMAGINATION whatsoever to break the scale and play it in a visionary atonal style, just like Brian Eno with Roxy Music or Allen Ravenstine with Pere Ubu, or Robin Amos with Cul de Sac, etc. and they will NEVER transcend these limitations and will remain stuck with their ancient archetypes of music FOREVER.

There's absolutely nothing wrong with tonal music. It's a valid, harmonious approach and it's given us some of the best music ever. Classical music proves, if nothing else, that it's entirely possible to be inventive, clever and exciting while sticking to just one scale.

Also, I really dislike the anti-viking, anti-pirate, anti-whatever rhetoric. When someone hollers about "true metal", I can usually tell one thing: they're closed-minded. Especially if the metal they're against has nothing to do with the musical genre and everything to do with its lyrical themes. Word to the wise: metal is music. It isn't philosophy and it isn't storytelling. If it sounds like metal, it's just as true as anything else.

I swear, no fanbase on earth is as self-righteous as metalheads. I say this as a metalhead, too.

obviously i like all the classic metal bands from 70s and 80s. my era of "metal" that i grew up with was Marilyn Manson and late 90s/early 00s stuff. so i dig all that stuff still.

Didnt like the direction it went in mid 00s onwards with all the super detuned metalcore/screaming shite.

I used to listen to a lot of Black Metal, but don't really anymore. However, there are a few Pagan or Black metal related bands I still listen to from time to time:

Summoning (Austrian Epic Tolkien Black Metal, my all time favorite metal related band)
Nokturnal Mortum (Ukrainian Pagan Black Metal)
Menhir (German Pagan Metal)
Odroerir (German Folk Metal)
Falkenbach (German Epic Pagan Metal)
Graveland (Polish Pagan Metal)
Ulfsdalir (German Underground Black Metal)

I'm much the same, I was HUGE on black metal for several years, then started drifting towards death and doom metal. Now though, I have a pretty eclectic taste in music. Of course I still have a soft spot for icy cold black metal, and I'm trying to get a stoner/doom metal band together at the moment.

When I stopped listening (full pledge that is) to Black Metal I started to drift towards Dark Ambient music. raison d'etre was the first one and will ALWAYS remain my favorite. Stains Of the Embodied Sacrifice remains one of the most frightening yet enlightening albums I have ever experienced as a human. Actually, all of Peter Andersson's music projects (raison d'etre, Atomine Elektrine, Necrophorus, Cataclyst, Stratvm Terror, etc.) are just gorgeous. Lustmord + Sophia were great too.

Nowadays 80's art rock bands/artists are my main focus. I listen to just about anything that is good (well, except rap/hiphop and modern country; country was only good until 1996)

I really discovered metal when I was in Grade 12. A buddy of mine gave me a list of songs to listen to and he got me hooked on Metallica. I had of course heard of them prior to that but the only song I was familiar with was I Disappear. I fell in love with Master of Puppets, Welcome Home, and For Whom The Bell Tolls pretty quickly. Also, it helped that I used to work at Athlete's World at the time and they played these video tapes which feature a lot of really awful pop music, but lo and behold, Slipknot's Duality was featured on one of them (September 2004, I still remember 8)) and as that song managed to save my sanity, I grew to love Slipknot as well. The rest, is history.

One thing about Myrkwid (he is a one man band and owned his own production company, Dunkelwald Productions, at one point) is that his releases are uber rare and I had a heck of a time finding them. I managed to get his first 4 demo tapes (each limited to 50 copies) for 100$ from a guy in Germany!

f**king A right they have. I once tried my hand at Wait and Bleed on karaoke and it didn't turn out so well. I killed Duality though 8)

You're lucky too. There aren't any metal clubs where I live :'(

I'm the opposite. Wait and Bleed is possibly the easiest song for me to karaoke, but duality would f**k me over. Problem is, I can scream quite well but can't sing/power-vocals to save myself.

Fair enough. The problem for me was trying to mimic Corey Taylor's speed as well as the gruff voice he puts on for that song. Duality I just jumped into it with both feet so I guess that made it easier for me.

Watching Slipknot live was the best day of my life. Hands down. I had no voice by the end of it. I wasn't in the ground floor since it was my firsat big concert ever, and I wanted to enjoy the full show. Sid is crazy. Well, they all are  ;D

As a fan of jazz and metal (among tons of other genres really) I LOVE Atheist.

I used to be into metal for years but now (for the last ten years or so) I literally can't stand it. I don't even feel nostalgia when listening to it. I still "like"/tolerate some Sepultura, Nile, Slayer and Bathory, and Tool, but only barely. I don't consider Black Sabbath metal rather than heavy rock or proto-stoner or doom. I love heavy 70s rock though, such as early Black Sabbath, Big Wheel, Blue Cheer, Hawkwind, Flower Travellin' Band, Led Zeppelin etc. or 90s heavy acts such as Unsane, Helmet, Melvins, Tad etc., and I'm crazy about noise, hardcore, crust punk and grind, as well as prog and fusion, but metal I can't stand. Don't know what happened.

While I can't speak for the state of things in the US (where I assume the butthurt people are), metal is incredibly inclusive down here in NZ. Go to any metal gig in my hometown and the audience will be pretty damn close to 50/50 male/female, there'll be numerous female crew and performers.

TBH I find all the metalgate bullshit mega embarrassing. Just a bunch of nerds getting upset over literally nothing. And its not even as if there's nothing that needs fixing in the culture, because I mean every comment section on metalsucks, metal injection, mainstream band's fb statuses, etc is always just a shithouse of homophobic labelling and (cant believe im saying this) MUH SOGGY KNEE. And sure every subculture has its bad apples but with metal it just seems so amplified...

I'm usually not one to get up in arms about this sort of thing but I mean gotta call it out when i see it. If someone sees legions of pantera/metallica/slayer/whatever fans talking about a band that they probably wouldnt enjoy like... i dont know say black veil brides/a day to remember/bring me the horizon/whatever and everyone is just calling them gay or fagboys purely because they dont like the music, how is that not f**ked up??? I usually just lol @ them for not understanding that the easiest way to look like a deep closet case is by being a homophobe. haha.

People call me a fag for liking Cradle of Filth all the time. It's never once offended me, I just tell them to go back to their hipster-lair to listen to dodgy tape recordings of belgian underground doom metal from 1994. The metal subculture is all about not taking peoples shit and giving as good as you get, there's no room for crybabies.

Lol. Anyway. This is probably one of the greatest dm songs ever recorded i think. Riff @ 1:10 is absolute destruction. Then you think it's over halfway through but no. Top-tier swedish death metal like this (dismember, early in flames, grave, unleashed, etc) always manages to purvey this amazing sense of brooding isolation and I dont think its really been paralleled by bands in any other scene since, at least in death metal.

Yeah they discography is kinda weak but a couple albums are solid like the self-titled. I thought it was a cool tour because there arent a lot of nu metal tours anymore (its not 1999 lol) and slipknot and korn were like the two biggest bands in the scene, and King 810 has a lot of hype and is super directly influenced by the other bands (+20% band similarity tour awesomeness bonus).

I'll have to check that album out. I've mostly been spinning the crucial power metal jams lately.

Nokturnal Mortum s releasing a single to benefit the Ukrainan troops still battling the Russians. It is a re-recording of "Hailed Be The Heroes" from the Weltanshaaung album, looks to be great, as their recent works have proving!

I'm becoming more interested in Skillet. Anyone here a fan?

I adore Skillet, though mostly the newer stuff. Favourites are Rise, Awake and Alive, Hero, Circus for a Psycho and Monster. Those are some of the heavier songs. They do a lot of gentler stuff that I really don't go for.

I'd recommend against reading the comments. Skillet has one of 'those' fan bases, unfortunately. It's especially bad in any Rise videos. That song seems to drag the f**kheads out of the woodwork to wave around their victim complex and invite all kinds of ill advised activity.

I don't like Korn all that much. I honestly don't know what the big deal is.
They were one of the earliest bands I listened to back when I was in high school and when Nu-metal was the big thing. Out of Nostalgia I like them still, well the earlier stuff but if I only just started to listen to them now I doubt I would like them as much.

I guess I discovered them too late. They just don't do anything for me. I could count on one hand the number of songs by them I like.

I haven't been listening to the more recent metal songs for a long time. I searched for some and found this band:

I recently discovered blessthefall. Is anyone else a fan of theirs? I walked into Hot Topic recently and the following was blaring over the speakers. Within seconds, I was headbanging.
