Title: A:CM Movie Map Pack DLC Preview
Post by: ikarop on Jun 11, 2013, 06:01:45 PM
Aliens: Colonial Marines’ Movie Map Pack is available today on Steam, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 for $9.99/£6.99/9,99€ (June 12th for PlayStation 3 players in Europe). As previously announced, this multiplater DLC includes 4 new maps set in locations from previous aliens movies; Alien, Aliens and Alien 3. You can check below for a collection of images showing the new maps. Additional images can be found here.
The Movie Map Pack includes:
Two new maps for Team Deathmatch and Extermination including ‘Fury 161’ which takes place in the run-down prison facility seen in Alien 3™.
One new Survivor map called ‘Nostromo’ where marines must defend themselves against Xenos inside the classic spaceship from Alien™
A new Escape map ‘Exodus' situated on the doomed Sulaco. Marines awaken from cryo-sleep and must navigate their way to escape pods whilst under Xeno attack.

The maps look great. Sadly there's no one online so there's no point to buy 'em.

I've only found one player on the 360. I ran around on Processor and was disappointed that it doesn't really look much like what we saw in the movie. No hive victims (as crappy as the models are for them we know they exist), a whole two alien eggs, and you can't go any lower than sub-level 2. Maybe it'll be better with players, I don't know.

Downloaded the new pack for free since I bought the Season pass months ago, and so far have only played some of the maps in offline mode to test them out... I must say that what I have seen looks good.
While I agree that it would have been awesome to play in the Queen's nest and the main human harvesting area, the Processor map is still a good map. It starts at a type of main garage and then goes down to level 1, sublevel 1 and sublevel 2. It has nice textures and is actually bigger than it appears to be at first. The garage is big and has plenty of areas to snipe as a Marine or to hide as a Xeno, but the lower levels are very claustrophobic and look very much like the movie to me.
Fury 161 is also awesome... has leadworks... some corpses of inmates here and there, plenty of dirt and many areas from the film.
I have yet to test Nostromo and Exodus but what I've seen in screenshots looks good. Btw.... could the Exodus map be part of the upcoming SP DLC? The premise looks kinda like that... ???

well the Sulaco map is a LAZY f**k work ...really? Just cutting together from the SP mission...why??? u could make such stages in amazing way like the Nostromo and Fury and ..then u give that aswell??? why not Getaway or Derelict or Auriga??

All the people asking for Auriga map do realise that movie was based 200 years in the future?

So? The Nostromo map is 57 years in the past. It's multiplayer maps, nothing to do with the campaign.
Thank you. :)

The Auriga would have been nice, I think so many people want it is cause it was featured in the Escape mode in AVP2. Either way I think we can all agree, this map pack puts the previous one to shame.

Yep. I love the look, but I thought I'd be climbing ladders and stuff. Also, the corridors are horizontally stretched to compensate for gaming needs.
It's the best (the second?) Nostromo that I've ever seen rendered in a video game, but could have been a lot better. I'll choose to enjoy it ('cause I've bought it), but will never stop looking for the definitive Nostromo map...

I didn't play much of the Escape mode from AvP2, I had no idea there was a level based on the Auriga.
Also that Jones easter egg has me grinning like an idiot. That's awesome and hilarious. ;D

AVP2 : Leadworks AVP2 : Auriga
And every other moviemap ever created never looked like the movie. Why? Because it doesn't work for a TDM/DM game. (Hell...Leadworks was broken with all the dead ends) See it more as a Nostromo "themed" map.
As much as I would like to see a complete accurate presentation of the Nostromo, I also realise this does not work for a TDM/DM game. :)

Shit, it wouldn't even work for a singleplayer 'Alien'-themed game.
The ship's layout as seen in the movie worked fine for a movie, where the filmmakers had complete control over the characters, the Alien, the lighting, the camera locations, everything.
If you're making a video game where you don't have absolute control over the players' actions, they'd end up breaking things that maintain "the immersion" anyway, especially if the setting is 100% accurate to a movie that didn't have the variable of player free-will.
Actually I'll amend that, it wouldn't even work for a singleplayer 'Alien'-themed game, unless the player was playing as the Alien against AI-controlled humans. Then you could conceivably make it 100% accurate to the movie and player randomness wouldn't exactly be as big of a factor, since as the Alien every time you ran into a human you'd conceivably butcher them anyway. If you were forced to play as a human and be stalked by an Alien, though, players would find ways to break the immersion almost immediately. Definitely better to make a Nostromo "inspired" level with level design conceits tailored to the actual gameplay.

Played these maps a few nights ago and got to agree that they were pretty great. I even got to play with Nick from GBX who worked on a few of the maps. We have some good matches and he was an all around nice guy. Too bad only a few people will see the fruit of his labors.

Yes, this is all moot, however, considering the layout of the Nostromo A deck is widely known and available, they've could've used that as a starting point and got that accurate, then added on from there.

I'd have loved that personally, but I suppose I can see why they didn't go that route. I'm not a video game connoisseur, but I think they felt the need to have at least two exits out of any location. The Nostromo's bridge certainly doesn't have that! :-\

His point (and mine) were that all the accuracy in the world is meaningless if it renders the map un-fun to play and runs counter to the gameplay.

Well complete and utter lack of attention to detail never stopped them before so why would they start now? ;D

Yes it is real, but no one has figured out how to trigger him yet AFAIK. One of the gearbox developers joins us on PS3 game nights occasionally and he made Jonesy appear. He also told one PC user how to do it (Pulser.)

Anyone else thinks this guy from Gearbox is being a douche for not wanting to show us how to do this? I mean come one, not a lot of people have this game anymore, not to mention the new maps whats the harm in spilling the beans. And also what other easter eggs on the other maps is he talking about? I've found some on my own already.
Processor 2 bloody hand prints Pictures of hearts colored in ACM toys/action figures?
Fury 161 1 Cocooned Marine 3 graffiti markings 2 bloody handprints Clear Coffee mug from alien 3 4 Dead prisoners
Exodus Periodic table of elements 2 deadface huggers November calendar Hawaii? 1 bloody handprint Floating icicle

WTF?!!! Need some help here. I have a day one PS3 and have never once had a problem with it, but when I downloaded and installed ACM movie pack it crashed. As soon as it was installed it crashed and went to a flashing red light. Every time I try to fire up my PS3 it goes directly to flashing red light. I have tried resetting, unplugging and blowing out my PS3 to no avail. I can't even get the game disc out.
Does anyone have any suggestions; has this happened to anyone else?

Not me, I'm thinking that the PS3 got interrupted or something while installing your game, you should call Playstation Support to help you out, call them at 1-800-345-7669.

Thx, but after some research online a blinking light sounds pretty grim. My PS3 may be fried and sending in one for repairs isn't cheap.
At first I thought it was the AMC Movie pack that screwed it up. But now I think it was just a coincidence. :'(
