With the new Indiana Jones movie coming out soon, I thought I'd see what everybody thought about the previous Indiana Jones movies.
My Ratings:
Raiders of the Lost Ark 9.5/10
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom 10/10
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade 8/10
One of my favorite film franchises of all time!
Raiders of the Lost Ark 10/10
Temple of Doom 8/10
Last Crusade 9/10
(Hopefully) Kingdom of the Crystal Skull = 10/10
I hope Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is amazing action movie like Raiders of the Lost Ark and Temple of Doom where. I hope Lucas don't let us down.

Lucas does the screenplay. If the story sucks then the movie may be bad even the director is good. I think Kingdom of the Crtstal Skull is going to awesome.
Lucas generally just does the story and someone else writes the script.
And Raiders is the best.
Raiders- 10/10
Temple- ?
Crusade- ?
I've only seen one. Have I lived yet?
You need to get on that shit!
Raiders of the Lost Ark: 9/10
Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom: 7/10
Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade: 9.5/10
I dunno, but I saw the last first ;D and always liked that the best. Didn't like Temple so much, but Raiders was hella fun.

7.9

In that order.
Raiders -9
Temple -8
Crusade - 7, only good when Connery enters the picture
i saw raiders waaaaaaay back when i was about maybe 6yrs old...we're talking 84 here people haha it scared me then but i grew to like it.its clearly the best and most authenic of the three.
doom was abit of a mess....looked fake and the effects were dodgy.the meal scene was always a good laugh though...and the bit where that guy has his heart removed hehe the US version is uncut with that.
crusade was a good finale....hit all the right marks and looked good.it was alittle too humourous, could have been atouch more sensible or eerie like raiders....it came abit too close to a bond flick for me.
raiders - 10
doom - 5
crusade - 8
Raiders - 10/10
Doom - 7/10

Why did everyone thought TOD was so bad?
I didn't think it was bed...just not as good as the other two

I love TOD, it was like the first movie but it has more of a adventure to it and has a lot of classic moments. The one thing i did not like about Crusade it had too much comedy and the character development need to be a bit better. Beside that it a great movie.

Indiana Jones and the raiders of the lost ark - 9/10

That's a tough one...
1st: Raiders
2nd: Last Crusade
3rd: Doom
QuoteWhy did everyone thought TOD was so bad?
I remember walking out of the cinema at the end and thinking it was WAY better than Raiders. Just the roller coaster ride (literally) from when Willie is almost lowered into the lava pit to Indy and Mola Ram on the bridge, never let up.
Over time though I think Raiders is more polished. Doom isn't a bad flick in the slightest, it just has two other films in a trilogy that are better.
The ones that have Nazis in them are the better ones.
"I HATE these guys." ;D
I'm surprised to see Raiders rated lower than the sequels by some people. That film is as good as an Indy adventure can get, man. :)
But on the other hand, I'm one of the few people I know that rates Temple slightly higher than Crusade. -- :o GASP!
Raiders - 10/10
Temple - 9.5/10
Crusade - 9.4/10 ;)

On the new DVD coming out next year, they have the Arab swordsman pull a gun and shoot first. It's much better that Indy will kill him only in self-defense.

Raiders of the Lost Ark, 10/10
Temple of Doom, 10/10
Last Crusade, 10/10
Crystal Skull, 7/10
Am attempting to be unbiased in this despite what it may seem.
Finally owned up that I don't hate Crystal Skull. On its own, it is pretty damn good.
On it's own is the only way to watch it. Trying to watching it while something else is playing at the same time is too distracting.

Raiders of the Lost Ark: 10/10

The Last Crusade: 8/10
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: 9/10
Honestly, I loved the Crystal Skull. Besides the nuke scene, I don't see why everyone dislikes it.
I love Last Crusade, perhaps my favorite in the franchise. The father-son story arc is just so damn fun. Connery and Ford played off each other so well. And the tank chase across the desert is one of best stunts in the series in my humble opinion.
No humble opinion about it. It remains one of the greatest action sequences ever filmed.

Raiders of the Lost Ark: 9/10 Temple of Doom: 7/10 The Last Crusade: 9/10 Kingdom of the Crystal Skull: 8/10
Despite how much I love Indy I'll hold off picking that up for a few years. I already have a boxset with all four films in a really nice case.
It was actually just the original trilogy but with a fourth DVD of extras but I simply swapped the first films cover into a DVD box with two disc spaces, put the extra's disc in that and then I had room to put Indy 4 into the set.
The reason i'll hang on is just incase a final film does get made I'd rather own a complete boxset of all of them and Im not triple dipping.
Anyway my ratings of the films are as follows.
Raiders of The Lost Ark - 9/10
Temple of Doom - 8/10
The Last Crusade - 9/10
Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - 7/10
As a kid, Doom was my favourite. I f**king loved it and Shortround was the coolest kid I'd ever seen. Growing older I preferred the banter and humor of Crusade with Ford and Connery playing off each other brilliantly and then as an adult when I watched the trilogy for the first time in god knows how many years I now count Raider's as my hands down favourite.
Crystal Skull I actually really enjoy apart from a few scenes that really piss me off like the monkey swinging and the overblown, unneccessary ending. We get it, they're alie........inter-dimensional beings, no need to rub it in. The fridge scene everybody hates doesn't bother me. It was no more ridiculous than using an inflated life raft to survive falling out of an aeroplane (you would definately still die and horribly at that) or a mine cart jumping off the tracks and landing back on them perfectly. Hell in the first film he manages to cling onto a submarine about to submerge and ride it all the way to that island.
I hate how people make Crystal Skull to be this terrible movie that it really isn't. The movie is a decent film that I enjoyed, sure it's not the best in the series and it may have a few flaws but it's a movie that i have fun watching. If i were to rank the films in order, I'd have Last Crusade at the top spot second to Raiders, third will be Temple of Doom and lastly Crystal Skull.
- Raiders of the Lost Ark - 9/10
- The Temple of Doom - 7/10
- The Last Crusade - 8/10
- Kingdom of the Crystal Skull - 5/10

Good artwork, but I think Brody deserved a spot. Belloq too. Preferably in the positions currently held by Mutt and that dominatrix.
And as I'm here:
Raiders: 5/5
Doom: 4/5
Crusade: 5/5
Skull: Face-meltingly abysmal.

Agreed. And I'd probably rank them in the same order as well: Crusade, Raiders, Temple, Skull. But I don't dislike a single one of them.
So is the new boxset going to have the original special effects, or the CG ones from last DVD release?

Huh? Is this a joke about Lucas editing Star Wars with each release, or did they actually do that with the Indy movies?
I think they're only doing minor adjustments to some of the films.
They cleaned a couple of things up on Raiders - like removing Ford's reflection in the glass seperating him and cobra. I don't imagine Spielberg would make wholesale digital changes a la Lucas. He seemed to have changed his tune following the special edition of ET.
Weren't there some online rumblings concering a new CGI backdrop used when that truck goes over the cliff in Raiders? I think it was done a few years back for the HDTV broadcast.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIH46G9_3SU# (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BIH46G9_3SU#)
Wasn't aware of it till you mentioned it.
The new one doesn't look any better or worse. Unnecessary, but nothing to complain about.
I wasn't complaining I was just curious, because Spielberg said he wasn't going to alter his re-releases after he changed things in ET.
I don't mind the little clean ups. Putting whole new scenes in is a bit daft though.
I don't think anyone would have complained if Lucas put old unused shots back in , like luke building the lightsaber. That shit was way cooler than the dodgy Moss Eisley stuff.
Blew the surprise on the sailbarge though.

Raiders of the Lost Ark - 10/10

Last Crusade- 10/10: This one's always been my favorite. "She talks in her sleep." Indy's reaction is one of the funniest moments ever put on film.
Crystal Skull- 8/10: No, it's not as good as the others. Yes, it has its bad spots. I still love it. It's a very enjoyable film, my only real gripes being Indy buying Mac's "double agent" crap and John Hurt being really damn annoying.

The Last Crusade is my Mothers favorite. (and my Grandmothers God rest her soul) so it's not out of the realm of possibility to believe. It has a lot of heart and is family orientated in a way that the others are not. (?)
Personally speaking however ...
Raiders 10/10...Dat sweet, sweet nostalgic 80's film magic.
Temple 8/10...Same but with a dark twist...and Dat Opening Musical number!!
Crusade 7/10...Diminished/Self Derived Action...But more heart and humor!!
Kingdom 7/10...Self Conscious at times...one or two sequences that fall flat, otherwise great return to form!

I don't think it will be in 3D. Spielberg said that he only plans on re-releasing Jurassic Park next year in 3D, not Raiders. Definitely seeing this in IMAX!!
IMAX is still technically 3D, though; just a special version of it, right?

IMAX is still technically 3D, though; just a special version of it, right?
Nope. IMAx is plain old IMAX. TDKR wasn't in 3D and it was in IMAX.
IMAX does feel similar to the atmospheric 3D, though.
Ahh, OK. Honestly, i could care less about 3D or IMAX, but Raiders is Raiders. If I forked over the cash to see The Phantom Menace and The Lion King in 3D, I'll see raiders in IMAX :)

BREAKING: Disney acquires INDIANA JONES rights from Paramount variety.com/2013/film/news...

So basically Disney made a trade for Indy, giving Paramount Jerry Bruckheimer.
I'd love to see Ford get one last movie in, if he's up for it :)
Heck, bring back Shia too if they want. I don't particularly care for him, but I had no problem with his character in KotCS. It'd actually feel a bit weird if he wasn't in it.
I'm gonna miss the mountain transitions. :-\
Shia or don't even make another.

Oh... damn.
No Fox fanfare in Star Wars...no Paramount Mountain in Indiana Jones :-\
All hail our Disney overlords

The Disney castle is vaguely mountain shaped, I guess.
It won't be the same.

Poor Paramount.
Saw it coming. Disney wants to own everything Lucas.

But... Ford. :-\
Say what you will about KotCS (I really enjoyed it, but I get that others didn't), but Ford was as great as ever in it.
Ford was acting as if he didnt care all that much in Crystal Skull... Just another paycheck for him. In the trilogy he had a sort of hunger to prove himself. Now he's comfortable...
Bradley Cooper would be great, methinks! :P
I'd not mind a reboot starring Cooper.

Very strange that two actors from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade passed on the same day.
