It's the truth and you've known it all along.

Look at the top comment here, this will happen more and more often until it is the primary iteration people seek out, impossible to overstate just how valuable believing in the monster can be. (If the next official release does not surpass it.)

It's also going to be the truth for the one screened in the QFT in a month's time.

What's a QFT?

That doesn't mean much to people outside of NI.

I have yet to see Legacy Cut but after rewatching the theatrical cut for the first time since Assembly Cut came out, I gotta say its a better version for me. I always went on record that I preffer a mix of both but never went back to theatrical until yesterday. For me it really works. Really does. All those extra character moments I argued that were important, I didnt miss at all this time. I thought this cut was lean and mean.

For years I only watched the AC, then I did a watch of all the movies in just their theatrical versions and haven't looked back.

Aliens is the only one where the story itself is slightly improved in the longer cut, but not enough for me to care about.

I think part of it is novelty. We were used to the theatrical versions of Alien and Alien 3 so much as that point that getting extended versions was such a thrill it became our default choice. Come to think of it, I havent seen any of the theatrical cuts since I first saw them until my latest (re)viewings in the last few days (minus Aliens). As far as the first film, its still a tossup for me but I think theatrical works best as a movie for a new viewer, while a longtime fan can enjoy the extra eggmorphing scene and more. When I think of Aliens its hard for me to imagine how long the buildup must feel without the Colony scene. Havent seen the TC since 90s. And now I found myself liking TC of Alien 3 more than AC. AC is great for all the extra scenes for us fans, but as a movie, TC clicks much better

Aliens CBS for me,
Spoiler
or Revised

otherwise I prefer the Theatrical Cuts
Spoiler
obviously not in the case of Alien³ though

by a large margin  with a couple of exceptions in the original film itself, I much prefer the cat slap but I intensely dislike the whole Thedus conversation exchange most of all. (Probably being a child of 1997 and watching the 2003 version more fostered that feeling that something's being spoilt or it's overwrought.)

I have come to prefer the Theatricals of most films, but exceptions do exist, especially in cases of censorship like True Romance.

On rewatches it just becomes increasingly noticeable how some of the additions really were better off on the cutting room floor.

The capture of the Alien is fascinating as a novelty but it stops the movie dead.

Aliens grinds to a screeching halt as soon as it cuts to the pre-infestation scenes on LV-426.  It's also the part with the worst performances in the movie, IMO.

I find skipping the colony makes the jump from them talking about the colony to Ripley being told they lost contact almost comical.

I like the colony scene itself, it's brief and it's great to see the whole before and after contrast, everything with Newt before Ripley appears sucks.

The theatrical cut of Alien³ is the best cut. I've never liked the dead ox or Queenburster less finale.

Also that Alien acid from where the Queens ovipositor was formerly attached burning through the floor and leaving egg growing spores/goo works for me. Some one needs to make that a front page poll.
