For those interested, the US Navy seems to have been the source for that recent news story about the Chinese satellite event.

Needs more Tomcats.

To do that, Maverick would have had to defected over to Iran.

Honestly, the F-14 wasn't all that great of an aircraft. There were very good reasons why it had to be replaced. Most people assume it was an eighties aircraft, because of the film, but it's actually from the Vietnam era and was doing overflights when the US military withdrew. One of the last aircraft designed before the age of computer-assisted simulations.

First flight was in 1970. The original F-14A's were a bit problematic, they got bomber engines instead of the engines that were originally intended for it. So they were underpowered and prone to compressor stalls. Pilots also couldn't suddenly jam the throttles forward or back without risking flameout, something that is critical for a fighter plane. Bit of a turkey really.

F-14B and D solved most of the issues and gave it multirole capability. So it turned out a great aircraft in the end. The only problem was that they were very expensive compared to the newer F-18's and they required frequent maintenace.

Was able to get an exclusive look for Maverick, before the Dr. Strange movie.  It was in 4DX and was so much fun!  Looking forward to this watching this movie this weekend, in 4DX.

This was incredible, as good of a sequel to Top Gun as you could want.
