HOLY XENOMORPH !!! - HICKS, HUDSON, APONE AND DRAKE! RIPLEY'S DUAL ATTACHED PR+FT = I AM SOLD!
DUDE. Worth it for that Power Loader and the movie characters alone! Rips flamethrower FTW. That's great, looks like a definite buy for me, maybe even if the game bites it.
Wow. Color me surprised that they were able to get the actors' likenesses.
It's the PR/Flamethrower combo that has me interested. Verry interesting. Can't wait to see that in action.
And to be able to play as Hicks! :)
I'm already imagining entire squads of Apones or Hudsons running around the map, everyone firing off movie lines as the shit hits the fan.

Yes this is the bad thing about releasing movie chars in the games. The whole servers are filled with the same char ;D
Can someone translate the German, because... That last item looks suspiciously like one of Hudson's oft-alluded 'sonic electronic ball-breakers'. :)
BUGSY APONE!
That plasma rifle looks very cool, sort of Aliens + Alien: Resurrection designs. I'm digging it.
Anybody know what that box on the right is? I can't tell if it's a display/diorama type thing or what.
Classic mode! :)

It's the box it all comes in and i think there are panels that fold out of it that you can use as a diorama for the powerloader.

QuoteThe Limited Edition will come with four playable movie characters in the form of Private Hudson, Corporal Hicks, Private Drake and Sergeant Apone, along with some special customization options for your Marine. Lastly, you'll also get your hands on the duct taped Pulse Rifle + Flamethrower that Ripley used on her trip into the Alien hive near the end of the film. One can assume that the Limited edition is most likely a pre-order bonus type of thing.
Next we have the Collector's Edition which comes with everything included in the Limited Edition and more. You get the four playable movie characters, customization options and Ripley's Flamethrower. It also includes a high quality Power Loader figure made of resin packed inside a limited Xeno Hive Box. Exclusive multiplayer weapons such as the Sonic Electronic Ball Breakers and Phase plasma rifle. There is also an exclusive Level featuring a firing range at the USCM Academy, as well as a plethora of paper goods like the USCM-dossier', commission, floor plans of the USS Sephora, personal information sheet, LV-426: Reconnaissance photo, a USCM-Iron-on Badge, USCM's degree certificate.
Thanks, dudes. Man that's some cool shit, LV-426 reconnaissance photos? Those could be very cool, or just as easily be quite lame. Same with the Sephora, I'd hope for a near identical match to the Sulaco so you could basically be getting Sulaco blueprints...
Still, the coolness.

Wow. Color me surprised that they were able to get the actors' likenesses.
Do you think that Michael Biehn will sue them for using his likeness? LOL.
Also, I think in all fairness that they should include a skin for Vasquez. She is arguable one of the most well-developed and colorful characters of the film. I would much rather prefer to see her than Drake or Apone.
No skin for Ripley?!? wtf?
Maybe the entire crew of the Sulaco will be available as downloadable content. Fingers crossed.
All in all, this looks like an excellent collector's edition.
Maybe its easier for them just to model a few different head models and armor decals, rather than full Ripley model. Thats why they choose only male marines. Which body models are similar/the same as the ones already in the game.
now i want pics of the movie character models :P

But if you look at the box art for the game, there is clearly a female character displayed with the other three marines. In fact, there are already a lot of things about her that resemble Vasquez from
Aliens anyway. I don't think it would be extremely difficult for GBX to at least give us Vasquez as downloadable content in the future.

QuoteJust heard back about Collector's Edition and pre-order bonus content for PC.
For North America: Those that pre-order the digial download of Aliens: Colonial Marines from GameStop will receive the GameStop Pre-Order Bonus (Hudson, Hicks, Drake, Apone, Ripley's Flamethrower, Addtl. Customization Options) but there are no plans to release a Collector's Edition of Aliens: Colonial Marines on PC in North America. For those that don't pre-order the digital download version from GameStop, all of the in-game items contained in the GameStop Pre-Order Bonus will be available for purchase at some point after the launch of the game. I'm checking to see if the in-game items exclusive to the Collector's Edition (USCM Academy Firing Range, Phase Plasma Rifle, Sonic Electronic Ball Breakers) will be made available for those in North America, and will update this post once I have more details there.
For International: Both a Limited Edition and Collector's Edition of Aliens: Colonial Marines will be available PC internationally. In addition, all of the in-game items contained in the Limited Edition will be available for purchase at some point after the launch of the game.

Oh boy...
Since GBX took the first three Alien films into consideration for A:CM, is it okay to hope for skins of characters from other Alien films? I'd also like to see skins for Parker, Kane (in his astronaut suit no less), Dillon, and Andrews as DLC.
They took Resurrection into consideration with those cryotubes too. ;D

I would say the inability of holding a secondary, ads, and bring up the motion sensor would be a good compromise
I would be surprised if its overpowered. I really doubt that.

$50 dollars just for the postage? Screw that.
well, that's to NZ quickly, not sure what it would be to US and that is also in $NZ not sure what it ends up being in US$ probably around 25-40max, it's your call mate. :P GL anyhow.

I'm pretty sure PC games are region free. At least when I ordered AVP for PC (off of the US Amazon) it for some reason came in a European packaging and worked fine with Steam.
Not sure if preordering the PC Collectors Edition from the UK will be easy. The collectors edition is an exclusive to Amazon and they don't allow video games to be shipped to the US for whatever reason.
Not all of them are region free. Lets say Modern Warfare 2 and 3 are region locked and RU keys are not working for NA or EU, the same goes for the other variants - NA are not working if you are in EU (and have EU IP). Red Orchestra 1 is region locked too. This can be easy bypassed though. You just have to contact some friend who lives in the country where the game is bought from and tell him to activate the game for you. (or you can use VPN and do it yourself, its really up to you). But the point is - some games using Steam are region locked.
will this come to the UK?

In campaign... Not multiplayer, where we will be given use of these sonic electronic ball breakers if we buy the special edition
Well, its not sure yet if there arent going to be any modes including marines team fighting wy mercs team. I hope you are right and mp is only marines fighting aliens and those electronic ballbreakers are something like stun grenade but with electric pulse which slows down/paralyze the xenos.
or it would be interesting if they were a way of temporarily locking doors/over loading them.
Instead of having to weld them
Well judging by the tripod thing they have going on and the little pole rising through the top I don't think them being mines is out of the question.

Maybe when a WY merc walks over one they launch up and well break his balls.

The Collector's Edition has a bunch of stuff that isn't part of gamestop's pre-order bonus. Also, I think you have to download the game online. Not sure.

Because if I order from Amazon then I don't have to pay sales tax and it gets delivered right to my door, and it still contains all the stuff the Gamestop pre-order bonus does.

Who knows? Maybe it will include a ALIEN rape scene warranting a AO Rating.
Looks like they've lifted the Sulaco artwork straight out of the CMTM for the Sephora.
Didn't what's-his-name who did the Nostromo schematics (that got lifted for the recent 'Alien' movie book that came out last year) also do Sulaco schematics? If they'd used his schematics as the Sephora that would have been pretty damn awesome.

By Space Jockey.
Hell yeah, that's the one. :) If they'd included a high-quality print of that similar to the Nostromo one that came with the Alien book, I don't think anybody would be complaining.

Mikey Neumann in a recent interview has stated that Aliens: CM and Aliens Infestation are not related. At one point I think Aliens: Infestation closely resembled what A:CM was going to be in its early stages, but I think there is no longer a connection besides some of locations and names. Not saying it isn't somewhat confusing, but that's just what on of the developers official statements.

Interesting. And flies in the face of the interview ikarop did (http://www.avpgalaxy.net/website/interviews/wayforward-technologies/). I wondered how they were going to tie them together since they both seem to cover similar ground and timeframe. And Infestation leaves the Sulaco clearly not in a position or condition we find it in CM.
Obvious proof that someone really has a strong hand on the continuity...
Not really... one is a side scroller, and the other is the official canonical sequel. They both happen in the same "time-frame" (the time of the colonial marines) but they aren't really related other than that.
Despite the makers originally saying otherwise. The type of game they are is completely irrelevant.
Gearbox also worked with Ridley Scott but we aren't going to see anything from Prometheus in the game. The interview is a bit ambiguous, honestly.
Quote from: Predaker on Jun 12, 2012, 11:31:55 PM
Gearbox also worked with Ridley Scott but we aren't going to see anything from Prometheus in the game.
How do you know?
Yeah. They've been giving blatant hints there'll be some Prometheus content in there.
Whether they have the license to do so, I'm not sure. Maybe that's contributing to the hold up.
Speaking of which, I wonder if the ossified Jockey will be identical to the 1979 version seen in Alien or be remodeled with the new Prometheus Engineer Chair Suit design.
Christ I hope they keep the 1979 design.
That's the impression I got from some of the interviews when they were asked if the game would connect to Prometheus and they basically say no. They happen at two completely separate times and won't have a direct relation.
This doesn't sound like a "no".
QuotePSB: Are you excited to see Prometheus? Will any of the Space Jockey lore hinted at in the film make it into Aliens: Colonial Marines?
RP: I'm very excited about Prometheus. 20th Century Fox invited us to read the script and check out production and ACM's director, Brian Martel, had a discussion with Ridley Scott about the matter years and years ago, so it's been a really interesting seat for us on this one. A bunch of our guys went out to read the script a while back. I chose to decline because I didn't want the spoilers — I can't wait to see the final film! Ridley is such a master storyteller and filmmaker and I'm thrilled that he's spending some more time in science fiction. Oh, and I haven't dodged your real question. Yes, ACM will bring you inside The Derelict on LV-426. I don't want to spoil anything, so I'll leave it at that!
I'm not going to dig up the specific interviews; you can do that if you wish. They have been pretty explicit in saying that there is no direct connection between A:CM and Prometheus.
Clearly they haven't.
Quote from: SM on Jun 13, 2012, 01:25:59 AM
Clearly they haven't.
Then you have been missing out. ;)
Don't see how. Pitchford hinted a few months back that there might be a Prometheus link, that he didn't want to spoil.
You're talking about interviews that definitiveely state otherwise - where are they?
And of course the game won't connect directly to 'Prometheus' plot-wise. I'd be really curious how it even could. :P
But including elements introduced in the movie? I could totally see them doing that.
Quite. There's Jockies in Prometheus - part of CM is on a Jockey ship. They could work in whatever they like if they wanted and were allowed.
The boss in the derelict will be an engineer, as powerful as George Romero was in call of the dead?
I am guessing that at the most, we will be able to see the Space Jockey in the Derelict with his mask removed and some lab equipment (Weyland Yutani) set up nearby him. It will basically resemble a big mummy with no wrapping. Thats my guess.
Christ I hope not.
Frankly I really, really like the Space Jockey in 'Alien' and hope they leave it untouched.
^ Agreed. Space Jockey =/= Engineers in my eyes. I don't want any part of Prometheus in CM.
You just know that it will end up happening.

If I pre-order now on Amazon.co.uk, do I get Hicks/Apone skins etc?
I'm aware of more goodies in the collector's edition, but I don't see anything anywhere on game retail sites - about the extras for any pre-order?
I'd wait for official announcements about who is selling what pre-order bonus before placing a pre-order. Game's coming out in February so we have plenty of time.

Well, GameStop is for sure doing the movie characters and ripleys flame thrower.
It appears that Gamestop just got extra codes for some of the material in the Collector's Edition. When I searched the title below, the Collector's Edition doesn't come with any preorder bonus, it appears that that is already packaged in with the set. However, the Collector's Edition does come with some DLC that the preorder bonus does not have, specifically the Firing Range level and the Plasma Pulse Rifle and Sonic Ball Breakers upgrades.

Is this stuff exclusive or early access ? Can we upgrade/progress and rank up to get "Plasma Pulse Rifle" , "Sonic Ball Breakers" , etc ?
You probably could, but the Marine customization options might be exclusive.
I think those items are just later unlocks and they are not exclusive. I can be wrong though.
For many games, features like new weapons are usually unlockable or available for public download later but things like skins (Vaszuez, Hudson, etc.) and the customization options may not be available.

Hudson looks more like Worthington than Paxton. eyes mostly, makes his face looks way bigger.
Hicks' fine. Apone and Drake need to buff up a little.
That pic looks like the faces were pasted onto the bodies.
I want these so badly, but I HATE gamestop, and REALLY don't want to give them a cent. I wish they would just make crap like this available to everyone. I hate store exclusives.
Only Drake looks like Drake. The others are, (Kramer voice) odd???
I hope Apone's model gets to keep the cigar in his mouth when you're running around. That'd be awesome. Though him not in full armor is a little weird, I guess they might change that?
Skins look pretty good to me, except I'm not really feeling Apone. He doesn't really look like him, features are way off...
And I'm not buying this if there isn't an option to put a goddamned helmet on. That irked the shit out of me in AvP 2010.
Well in videos we've seen all of them are wearing helmets in multiplayer, I doubt these skins specifically have a helmet, because then it covers up the face a lot, and ya know, what's the point then?
They all look vaguely similar without being really accurate.
I think they all resemble the actors, not perfect but definitely recognizable. Here's to hoping they get all the actors to lend their voices.

I wouldn't say they are free, exactly. The CE costs a bit more.

Apone isn't in combat gear because I don't f**king know :S

If you did a quick search on imdb, you'd notice that Michael Biehn actually has a lot of steady work in Hollywood. Still I'd love to see him offer his voice for Hicks for A:CM...but he might want to sue GBX for using his likeness first just like how he threatened to sue FOX for using his likeness in Alien3.
The really "cherry on the cake" though would be if GBX could get Bill Paxton to give some lines of voice for Hudson again. Hudson is the most "quotable" character in Aliens by far.

I agree here, Steelbooks are what make the Collector's Editions so great. I love having a shiny metal box for a video game case, it looks so impressive and durable.

It's just packaging.
If Predxeno cares more about his game looking "durable" than what it comes with, let him want a steelbook.
I'm more interested in the enjoyment I get out of the game. Story decisions be damned
If I was going to pay more for a Collectors Edition I'd want more actual content.
Yeah, I was talking more about A:CM in general, but I agree with you there.
I really wish game developers would try to do a bit more than just skins and stuff. I'd love it if they gave people early acces to mini campaigns and such in their editions. Something more filling than just visual flare.

Yes, but it's something that's supposed to come with a Collector's Edition; it's implicitly implied. It's like buying a Collector's Edition without a statue or figurine of some kind.
QuoteYes, but it's something that's supposed to come with a Collector's Edition; it's implicitly implied.
Sure it's not a redundant tautology?
I woulda thought the content of a collectors edition is whatever the distributor says it is, and there's no set rules about steel cases or toys or whatever. It's just something to suck more money out of the hardcore fans.
Well, it's also like buying a game without an instruction manual.
You don't need a steel case or toys. You do need a manual.
I love how us PC gamers are getting shafted. No model or anything.

Well, personally I think a steelbook is an equivalent of a statue/figure or a DLC pack being included in the Collector's Edition; you have to have it.

How is Gearbox not adding in the Colonial Marine Manual that was just recently back in print as a collector's edition item. Missed opportunity there.

Every year it's sucking harder and harder to be a PC gamer.
Of course they are putting all the incentives into the console versions. They are guaranteed sales.
it's not like people who weren't impressed with the trailers will just rent it and all the money will go to the stores instead, right?
Sega probably checked their numbers and saw that more people in America are more willing to buy the collectors edition for the consoles than PC. I can only guess there are more PC players in other regions.
I have friends who bought new PCs that are powerful enough to play the most recent games, but buy the console versions because they have more friends on the console. It seems like PC is kind of making a comeback as of late, but who knows what will happen when the next generation of consoles comes out.

Just pre-order today cant wait to play it on my new samsung smart tv :-)
In all honesty the main reason I pre-ordered the Collector's Edition was for the early access to the playable movie characters in multi-player.It'll be greatly satisfying to run around as Hudson gunning down as many aliens as I can to avenge his death in Aliens and it willl be even better if they re-create the control room and the vents for a multi-player map to match
Had this pre-ordered for some time now, just for that beautiful Powerloader figurine. I hope there will be some DLC packs for the Xenos- it would be nostalgic to play as the Runner or even the Auriga Clones. <3
If the game is any good, they have enough material to make excellent DLC for years. They could just go through all 3 movies, even include Resurrection if they wanted.
Who wouldn't buy a 'Nostromo' character pack and run around as Dallas, Parker, or Lambert? (So long as they don't make them look like that damned Hicks )
QuoteBuy Aliens: Colonial Marines at GAME.es and get the "XP Boost Pack" DLC which gives users the ability to unlock upgrades for your weapons before the rest of the players.
http://www.game.es/Product/Default.aspx?SKU=065585 (http://www.game.es/Product/Default.aspx?SKU=065585)
I thought the game is all about the survival? I thought your lvl and weapon doesn't matter...... Damn you GBX, what have you done >:(
That's true, but upgrading is also very important in this game; the producers made sure that all your upgrades transfer across single-player, coop, and even multiplayer. Also, the site advertising this is in a foreign language so I'm not getting it anyway.
It shouldn't be important.
It seems that the upgrades and leveling up unlock new weapons, longer mags, more customizations, etc. Things that are purchased with money you earn in the game.
Hopefully there won't be RPG elements like +gun damage.
why not unlock things that shouldn't already be on the game?

What do you mean? How does the gear progression fit the story? Theoretically speaking you could only play multiplayer first, earn XP, money, new unlocks, and then hop into the campaign and all those upgrades will carry over.
It doesn't, it's supposed to make the gameplay fun and addictive; at least, that's Gearbox's way of looking at it. It sounds cool, so I'd like to give it a try.
More grind doesn't mean more fun :\

Oh hey, you know what would make this game really great? If it had a dlc or bonus reward where you can unlock a port for the Aliens: Extermination arcade game!!! That would be awesome on so many levels, especially since the storylines of the two games are quite similar.

Hi guys I am hoping my first post will be a useful one to you all that live in the uk.
If you are wanting to pre order the ps3 version of the collectors edition from either game or gamestation you might struggle. The reason is that I say this is because it is spelt wrong on their system. It is spelt ailen instead of alien so that cannot find it. If yu are ordering for pc or xbox it is fine and the wont affect you. Hope this post will be useful to someone
I've already preordered the CE for PS3 in the US, but I think I speak for everyone when I say your assistance in this matter is highly appreciated by the community. :)

Hi has anyone ordered their copy from Grainger games UK?Only ask as I pre-ordered my copy from them the other day.Having looked on the receipt it has got collector's edition but on there website there is no sign of the collectors edition only limited edition.
Many thanks.
Noticed today that the CE is sold out at BestBuy. Luckly I already had it preordered, but you never know (I've heard horror stories about BestBuy messing up, not ordering enough, or staight up canceling people's preorders). Fingers crossed.

This is the best deal I believe (cheaper than Steam in EU): http://www.game.co.uk/en/aliens-colonial-marines-exclusive-extermination-edition-188378 (http://www.game.co.uk/en/aliens-colonial-marines-exclusive-extermination-edition-188378)
It includes all the limited edition bonuses plus a few more (Extermination Edition). All digital if you choose the download only option.

Thanks ikarop, definitely worth buying from there!
