Title: Stupidity and Cartoon Network: Synonymous?
Post by: The Chibi Kiriyama on Jul 13, 2008, 11:45:09 PM
I'm watching "the CN" right now, and they're playing Jurrasic Park 3 for the kiddies.

...

Okay, let me put that in perspective. The movie is PG-13. This movie has nothing to do with cartoons. Cartoon Network is broadcasting it. So I ask you- in light of all the brain-numbing decisions this network has made for the better part of 3 years, do you think it'll ever go back to quality programming?

Alternatively, feel free to post other reasons why they're sucking a storm, any programs that are worth a view, or any favorites from back when it was good. Heck, tell us why it doesn't suck or if it was ever good if that's what you think.

I miss the good old days of Cartoon Network.

Thundercats.
Johnny Quest
Dexter's Lab
Johnny Bravo
Gundam
08 MS Team
Gundam Wing
DBZ

The channel used to be one of my favorites. Now it's just full of shite. I don't think we'll ever get our beloved channel back.

I watch cartoons for nostalgia's sake. But because CN and Nick have become so shitastic lately, I can't even do that. I mean, half of the shows on CN now aren't even cartoons. Stupid...

It really is apparent how lowered the standard is now for all tv channels compared to 10 years ago.

I still have this quote in my head from all those years ago, can anyone guess which show it's from:

"Ancient spirits of Eeevil,
Transform this decayed bo-dey,
Into MUM-RAA!
THE EVER-LIVIIING!!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"

I agree with CELTICPRED's post. Except the only Gundam series I watched was Gundam Wing. And the only thing I remember about Johnny Bravo was his gelled up, blonde hair which he would comb 24/7.

My 2 favourite channels were CN and Fox Kids (now called Jetix).

I'm a child spawned in the nineties.

So for me my days where filled with:

Pokémon
Power Rangers
Street Sharks
Biker Mice from Mars
Teenage mutant hero turtles (Yes heroes)
Animaniacs
The Simpsons
Spider-man the animated series
Johnny Bravo
Dexters lab
Earthworm Jim
Ren and Stimpy
Rugrats
X-men
Batman the animated series
and any random warner bros cartoon that happened to claw it's way onto the screen.

Oh yeah, and Space Jam. Space Jam was the f**king shit.

QuoteThe Venture Brothers and Aqua Teen Hunger Force are Adult Swim's saving grace.

Our Adult Swim consisted variously of ATHF, Venture Brothers, Brak, Space Ghost, Tom Goes To The Mayor, Sea Lab, and Harvey Birdman.  I like all of them, but we were indundated with endless repeats.  I musta seen some episodes of Brak 6 or 7 times.  Same with Venture Brothers.

It's now shifted to the Comedy Channel is essentially just Robot Chicken and Harvey Birdman.

Agreed 100%. AS has gone down hill, and it only took about 6 years for it to happen. I remember when it started, it had home movies, space ghost, and ATHF. Then they got more comic strip based shows like the oblongs, mission hill, that one about the family with the 2 kids... Anyways, now they have stupid ass shows like assy mcgee and fat guy stuck in internet. And dont get me started on tim and eric.  >:( The only shows I watch are venture brothers, robot chicken and ATHF, and maybe metalacolypse and squid billies if I cant sleep. As far as Im concerned, a part of me died when they lost futurama because that show was their frankenstein, they brought it back from the dead and made it their own. They need to go back to the pre-"bump" days with the old people swimming around in the commercials, that was the best!

As for the CN, sometimes I catch courage the cowerdly dog randomly in the afternoon but everything else is crap. I noticed they had JP3 on and wanted to cry, because the cartoon network I remember always played original scooby doo and classic cartoons before live action shows. Hell, I can probably blame scooby and his hippie friends for my love of horror, especially masked monster films.  :D I will say it isnt as bad as Nick anymore, that channel has been crap since they started marketing to tweens.

Have you seen the new scooby doo series?

It's shit.
The voices are awful impersonations of the old actors.
The art style is totally different.
They're wearing different clothes.
The monsters are always robots.
And Shaggy and Scooby have different scooby snacks that give them special powers.

Don't hate on the Boondocks man. It's one of the good shows on AS. I looks like a stereotypical black show on the outside, but it raises a lot of points about race, both against black people and white people. It's funny yet has a point, my favorite.

I have a favoring of the under-appreciated SilverHawks. Damn they were cool. Now of days, I've got only Family Guy to keep me sane. They canceled The Critic eons ago. And the Simpsons has jumped the shark more times than Harry Potter has said Expeliarmus! On occasion, I do catch Robot Chicken, and that's enjoyable; but its technically not a cartoon.

I love the old cartoons! my favorites are:

I am 23 just so you know...

1. Rocko's Modern Life #1 of all time IMO
2. Doug
3. Rugrats
4. AHH! Real Monsters
5. Dexter's Lab (The old ones)
6. Johnny Bravo
7. Animaniacs

There are a few new shows that are pretty good.

Chowder is a very cool show with very creative animation
The Mighty B is pretty damn funny and created by people from SNL and Spongebob

Have you seen the new scooby doo series?

It's shit.
The voices are awful impersonations of the old actors.
The art style is totally different.
They're wearing different clothes.
The monsters are always robots.
And Shaggy and Scooby have different scooby snacks that give them special powers.

;_;

Shaggy Scooby and Fred are the same voice actors they've always been.

They are? They sound REALLY different.

Prolly cause they're an assload older than they used to be.

I don't even watch cartoons anymore.  Cartoons are for kids unless you are one of those perverted hentai freaks.  :P

I thought I was the only one on this site who thinks that.

The South Park MS clip at E3. Is that a game or are the episodes being put up for download?

Man I remember spending and collecting a heck alot of pokemon started decks. At the time I wasn't even sure how to play the game. Just collected ("Collectable Trading Card Game") them. This was before I found out that this CCG was the crapest out of all CCGs. Over the years I misplaced them so there's nothing left. Now i'm a Yu-gi-oh! fanboi. EXODIA, OBLITERATE!!! (Eng ver) :P.
