I'm honestly more looking forward to the "Best of Ridley Scott" video compilation than the movie. I'm sure Ridley will have some funny shit to say about it. :)

Stolen

Do you have a link to download the trailer in high definition? And nobody makes gifs?  ;D
The landscapes are so beautiful, the artistic direction looks very good, the actors quite good and the atmosphere seems oppressive and terrifying.
It's a shame that it reveals a few dead, but absolutely nothing about the story that interests me (the two david, engineers, terraforming, shaw ...)which is probably a good thing!

Now we know what the hand sculpt belonged to!

I don't think these hands look the same.

Not at all.  They're completely different hands.

SuicideDoors

That's assuming it's a "hand". It may be something we haven't seen before? I know hand is the obvious answer at this point but it's bloody huge.

Ok, I have to mention the song in the trailer.  It's called Nature Boy, and while it was sung by Aurora, it's originally a Nat King Cole tune from the '40's.  The full lyrics are below, and I wonder if the latter part of the song is not more in tune with humanity's ultimate purpose.  The notion that "love" may be our main purpose for existence, may in fact be something that is intentionally going to be explored here.

There was a boy
A very strange enchanted boy
They say he wandered very far, very far
Over land and sea
A little shy and sad of eye
But very wise was he

And then one day
A magic day he passed my way
And while we spoke of many things
Fools and kings
This he said to me
The greatest thing you'll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return

The greatest thing you'll ever learn
Is just to love and be loved in return

Also, wasn't this song in another trailer recently about a kid who has monsters in his life?  I can't remember for the life of me what that film was called.  Anyone?

It was actually written by Eden Ahbez

The thing that completely mystifies me about this trailer is the release date.  Christmas Day.

Christmas Day?  Really..?

How much more disconnected with everything that Christmas means to people can you get?

Fox Marketing Exec #1:  "when should we release a major movie trailer featuring hideous monsters shredding up the crew of a space ship when people need it the least?"

Fox Marketing Exec #2:   "How about Christmas?"

Fox Marketing Exec #1:  "Excellent idea!  No one needs any more of that 'Joy to the World' and 'Goodwill to All' stuff on Christmas Day as much as they need a gory scary ALIEN trailer.  Let's do it!"

Seriously, though, why release an 'ALIEN' trailer of all things on Christmas Day?  I just don't get it...

-Windebieste.

I can't believe you're the only one who's voiced this so far.  I took the time to read this thread from the beginning.  Releasing this type of thing on Christmas Day to take advantage of a Christian holiday is an insult to Christianity.  It was very tasteless to release the trailer on Christmas.  As much as I think this is a marketing decision, I also get the sense that Scott has a bit of a disdain for Christianity.

Yeah, I wasn't happy with it either but for different reasons. I didn't think it would get much exposure at that time when people are busy with other stuff. I can see why they've done it. Christmas is pretty slow for news, nothing much gets posted. So this trailer is going to stay on the frontpage of many news sites for the entire holidays. It's just like releasing AvPR on Christmas Day and playing into the whole Christmas theme with the silent night trailers they did.

. People can hate on Prometheus all they want, but at least it wasn't the same recycled trash we've been getting from the Alien series ( and AVP ) for over a decade.

Prom was pretty much a ripoff of AVP.

The shower scene has the potential to be really nasty. I love the trailer more with each veiwing, i think its fantastic
Yeah I think so too. I think this movie will be a lot of fun. ;D

Predatorium

It was posted on Christmas Day because Prometheus ended on Christmas Day as Shaw kisses her cross and heads off with David on the next adventure. The whole concept of these two movies is creation and belief, in spirit with religion.

They landed around Christmas, or Cuddles was born on Christmas, and the movie ends on New Year's Day. Janek says, "It's Christmas" the day they wake up, and Holloway says "It's Christmas and I want to open my presents" right before they explore the ruins for the first time. But you are mostly correct that Prometheus has a Christmas theme and setting. It's one of the great unconventional Christmas classics, like Die Hard and Eyes Wide Shut.

Predatorium

Elisabeth Shaw is quite a revolutionary character. She's a devoted Christian who believes in her God but unlike most others She doesn't confide herself in the belief that all answers are already written in a thousands of years old book but instead continues to search for the truth and is willing to use science to help her. I believe many Christians could learn a thing or two from her.

Not too impressed by the trailer, to be honest. The intro was awful, looked like some amateur shot that scene. The rest looked good. Alot of Prometheus and Aliens callbacks, but that was to be expected. FX looked decent, but not too happy about the color palette, everything´s a bit too dark and bit too teal colored IMO. And that shower scene, oh my.... better not talk about it.

Maybe it´s just a badly cut trailer and it actually turns out to be a decent/good movie after all. We´ll see.

Rogue One was far more "memberBerry" than The Force Awakens. Although The Force Awakens hit most of the same notes as A New Hope, Rogue One was blatant full frontal nostalgic pornography. I'm still trying to figure out which film is worse. They're both pretty awful. I bet George Lucas is secretly laughing his ass off at how bad Disney is messing up Star Wars. Say what you will about the prequels, but the story/plot and action sequences were extremely unique. Disney has gotten the original trilogy aesthetic down, but both films are extremely hollow. The actors are all seemingly winking at the camera for two hours. But alas, enough with Disney's abomination.

I see a lot of people grumbling about AVP:R. Does anyone actually believe Scott would deliver a film like AVP:R? Even though I get some enjoyment out AVP:R, Scott is in a league of his own when it comes to visual storytelling. Scott is a master, and although it looks like he had to compromise with Fox on some of the decisions ( putting the alien back in the film ), he's not going to film a crap script in this saga. I realize that Prometheus wasn't perfect, and that its script has gotten quite a bit of criticism, but it wasn't that bad. Honestly. It wasn't. This is just my opinion, obviously, but anyone thinking Convenant will be on a quality level of AVP:R needs to take a deep breath and relax. It's going to be much better, especially on a technical level. :)
Amen brother... totally with you on all that (although I enjoyed Rogue One much more than The Force Awakens). Alien:Covenant will be a couple of notches above most sci-fi/horror films at a minimum...

i am just really concerned that this negative vibe on forums hurts the movie at the B.O and we don't get to see more of the franchise after covenant. .the trailer in my opinion is excellent. .apart from spoiling a few death scenes. .i am a big fan both Prometheus and Alien and i am super hyped. . I am hoping that this negativity on the net does not hurt the franchise. . Hopefully the casual fan will still be eager to go watch the movie. .
