i really hope that Ridley sticks to his word and keeps the philosophical depth of Prometheus in this film! the questions Prometheus posed are what made me fall in love with the movie so much. Posing deeper religious questions without making them sound hokey or offensive is a very difficult thing to do and Ridley did it EXTREMELY well in Prometheus!

High guys normally just a browser on the site therefore never posted. Apologies if this has been picked out. But just an observation on the shower scene.

I know it's been mentioned about the editing. But has anyone noticed that it's 2 different males? So clearly something going on with the whole sequence.

I'm not posting here very often, but I have to mention what a bunch of whining naysaying second-guessing entitled-to-Alien-the-way-I-want-it fanheads have assembled around here.

This looks like a pre-sequel that fits, and its ironic that the trailer seems to be a reaction to the confusion that Prometheus delivered - most people who watch this will want what an Alien franchise should deliver; scares thrills and a bodycount - doesn't mean that Ridley will be holding back on more mysteries, - but he's figured that, in the short term, mystery in the trailer doesn't put bums on seats on the opening weekend, but hey, once you're there popcorn in trembling hand, he can deliver his mysteries in his own sweet time.

I'm all for this, can't wait to see what happens in May.

We are the ones who waited for Rogue One, we refuse to dr00l along with you for the Force Awakens.

What I saw was a 'memberBerry trailer...

I wonder, are you excited for the new Blade runner movie too?

The Joker

Not sure if this has been talked about in the thread, but there's a reason behind that shower sex scene in the trailer.

MINOR spoilers
Spoiler

Was watching a Katherine Waterson interview. She revealed that the group of people that are aboard the ship are going to the planet to colonize it. Each of them has a soulmate/significant other aboard the ship and therefor there "objective" would be to reproduce in order to populate the planet. Thought I'd pass this along for those that thought the scene was completely out of place, though I still don't like it being in the trailer. Should make sense in the movie, I suppose.

It's just silly for two people to start f**king when there's an active crisis. Even in the immediate wake of a crisis. It just doesn't seem a natural reaction.

In Aliens, the flirtation between Hicks and Ripley is so subtle and mostly under-the-radar. "It doesn't mean we're engaged or anything." "I want to introduce you to a personal friend of mine." There's low-level innuendo. But they were never dumb enough to slip away and start banging while Newt was asleep or something.

David in Engineer's cloak.

I am glad I wasn't the only one who thought that. It definitely reminds me of the Engineer's robes and hoods from the beginning of Prometheus and in that deleted scene with the Elders. They all wore something that looked like that, same look and even materials if I remember it right.

I dont have a problem with it personally, but I would imagine those that do have more of an issue with the fact it's in the film to begin with than any of the plot reasoning behind it. Two people having sex doesn't need much justification.

Unlike Alien 3, where Ripley turned into a dumb bitch who jumped straight in bed with Clemens...

Maybe... then again, we don't know where that scene takes place in the movie - if it does at all. It may have been shot specifically for promotional content.  We might not see it in the movie at all.

On the other hand, it may just as easily be the final scene in 'ALIEN: Covenant'.  The movie could be in its closing stages when this happens.  All the mayhem is over and these 2 have gotten off the planet, apparently safely.  They decide to celebrate their hard won victory by engaging in some shower lovin' aboard the Covenant.  Then Big Ol' Smily pops up and says "BOO!" End of Movie.  Roll the credits.

Honestly, is it outside the question the Alien will sneak aboard the ship at the end?  It's a trope in this series.  We've been told it appears at the end of the movie.  I've got no problem with if its' treated as a cliff hanger.  It would make for a welcome change having the Alien survive at the end of one of these movies; and take what's almost a cliche and use it as an impetus to open up a sequel.

How would that be?  Waiting for 2 years, knowing that the Covenant is still in orbit around Paradise with an unknown number of survivors on board and one of those things pacing its hallways?  I would actually like that as a cliffhanger...

Either way, yes.  Context is important for a sex scene.

Most of the crew in Alien are f**king off-screen. Because they're a small group of humans with normal human urges in a cramped environment. Promiscuity is perfectly reasonable. I mean... "dumb bitch"? Really?

Regarding the trailer being released on Christmas Day, my opinion is that this is no coincidence, and if you all remember, the Prometheus crew first entered the pyramid on Christmas Day.

Charlie Holloway: Captain, would you please tell the survey to suit up and meet us in the airlock.
Janek: There's only six hours left of daylight. Why don't you leave it till the morning.
Charlie Holloway: No, no, no. It's Christmas, captain, and I want to open my presents.

Coincidence? I think not!  :)
I was under the impression that was a joke. He was saying he was excited like a kid on Christmas eve, not that it was literally Christmas.

No, it was literally Christmas.

Rogue One was far more "memberBerry" than The Force Awakens. Although The Force Awakens hit most of the same notes as A New Hope, Rogue One was blatant full frontal nostalgic pornography. I'm still trying to figure out which film is worse. They're both pretty awful. I bet George Lucas is secretly laughing his ass off at how bad Disney is messing up Star Wars. Say what you will about the prequels, but the story/plot and action sequences were extremely unique. Disney has gotten the original trilogy aesthetic down, but both films are extremely hollow. The actors are all seemingly winking at the camera for two hours. But alas, enough with Disney's abomination.

I see a lot of people grumbling about AVP:R. Does anyone actually believe Scott would deliver a film like AVP:R? Even though I get some enjoyment out AVP:R, Scott is in a league of his own when it comes to visual storytelling. Scott is a master, and although it looks like he had to compromise with Fox on some of the decisions ( putting the alien back in the film ), he's not going to film a crap script in this saga. I realize that Prometheus wasn't perfect, and that its script has gotten quite a bit of criticism, but it wasn't that bad. Honestly. It wasn't. This is just my opinion, obviously, but anyone thinking Convenant will be on a quality level of AVP:R needs to take a deep breath and relax. It's going to be much better, especially on a technical level. :)

If this is the movie where the Alien is indeed created, and it is a prequel or pre-prequel to Alien, then the Alien MUST survive the movie, or at least provide offspring before it goes out.  I too would like to see an alternate ending in the Alien Franchise.

The eggs 'surviving' after the first one was the impetus for the second.
