Jesus, and to think we are fans, why so many complaints? it doesnt look bad at all, i get that some of you are unsure because you didnt liked Prometheus but jeez they are complaining about literally everything, and is Scott making Alien again after so many years! that alone should make us really happy, he knows what he is doing

I think some of the problem comes from hardcore 'ALIENS' fans that are disappointed that Scott shunted Blomkamp's Grand Return of the Indomitable Ripley into the nether regions of production postponement.

These people desperately want a retcon of 'ALIEN 3' and 'ALIEN: Resurrection'.  Nothing Scott or anyone else does will make them happy until that happens.

I refer to them as 'The Boohoo Brigade'.

By the way, I'm loving what this movie has to offer so far.

echobbase79 I never stated the volume of the hate and I'm sure most people like it.

I wasn't referring to you in general, but that some seem to think there's a more negative response than positive. I don't think that the case at all.

Why is it that any time a new piece of material is released and anyone is less than thrilled, people immediately start writing them off as having some ulterior motive to hate it?

This is a discussion board, not an echo chamber. Some people won't like what others love. That's half the fun, it creates a conversation. Trying to shut the opposing side up by writing them off as either sycophants or haters is childish.

@paradiselost I think the shower scene was the scariest by far and a nice nod to the classic Psycho. The xeno emerging from the darkness gave me the chills.
Also interesting point there about Shaw, if there's anything left of her.

The internet is very very mixed on this trailer.

There seem to be a lot of Prometheus fans upset that they didn't get a direct sequel, and as many Alien fans are upset that it feels like a slasher movie. You've got the people who really want the Blommkamp thing to happen (even though it will anyway). A ton of people disappointed with Prometheus are writing it off because they don't want to be "fooled" again. People sick of reboots are decrying it. Reddit doesn't know what to think, Facebook seems nonplussed, 4chan loathes it. Some people are saying it even looks fake and cheap, which is insane.

I personally loved the trailer but the whole reaction has just put a damper on my hype.

Still mad this trailer spoiled so many deaths. This movie doesn't have many featured actors to begin with. But now we already know what happens to Ejogo, Rigby, Seimetz, Smollett, Hernandez and Crudup. McBride didn't look too good in one part. We've seen Bichir get molded.

Disappointing.

You can only really quantifiably judge it on the basis of YouTube likes. It has a lot of likes. The same small group of people are on all those other sites anyway.

It has always been that way since I joined back in 2007 before Requiem came out. With each new movie people get excited and want to hear all the good things about it. I knew all this inner quarreling would start sometime. I also didn't get the vibe that you were 'hating' on anything either. That's if you're asking me personally or the board in general about what you were asking.

Ill assume, you didnt like the trailer. May i ask what you were expecting in the trailer, that you didnt see?
My issue is mostly with the trailer itself. The trailer for Prometheus did an excellent job of creating a sense of rising tension. You get a sense of the growing mystery and discovery and dread -- more than the finished film, as far as I'm concerned. It was a really good piece of advertising.

This trailer starts with a gory kill and then throws as many flashes of action and "horror" at you as it can. It feels like it was outsourced to a company that specialises in slasher movie trailers. It advertises the film as a largely mindless series of death scenes strung together on a thin plot.

I was expecting a better-edited trailer that created an actual sense of tension. Alien's trailer nailed this, Prometheus' trailer nailed this, so it wasn't much to ask for this to follow suit. It didn't.

There are flashes in it I really like, but every piece of footage they showed surrounding the Aliens and neomorphs and what have you lacked any sense of imagination or creativity. It portrays the film as bottom-of-the-barrel sci fi horror and that's really disappointing. Monster shows up, snarls, blood, next scene.

Arguably, that's how Alien goes, too -- but that's not how the trailer showed it. It showed it as an intense, claustrophobic nightmare and left the generic aspects of the story to the film itself. So I have hope for Covenant the movie, but no love for Covenant the trailer.
You some some fair points, and i agree with you on the second prometheus trailer, its paints a better than the finished film for sure. You might not agree with how it was put together, but keep in mind, the second trailer is sure to better and longer, also this is surely a response from fox to the prometheus criticism. You gotta look at the bigger picture and take it for what it is to an extent, also have faith in Ridley Scott, he wants to return his movie back to glory, surely if anybody can, its him

@MajorB LOL Most viewers seem to like it. Take a look at the trailer on YouTube and see the vast majority of likes.

It's exactly the kind of messed up reaction that comes with 'holding all the cards too close to your chest' and then make the big reveal with little lead up with everything all at once.

What exactly is a Prometheus fan? Someone who doesn't like ALIEN(S) but does like PROMETHEUS? ALIEN(S) fans who like PROMETHEUS best?

Its seem trivial. The movie is a sequel to Prometheus. Its just being branded as ALIEN because it hits closer to "home" than Prometheus did.

If delivered the right way Covenant will have the best of both worlds and should be terrific. I trust in Ser Ridley's directing skills, I think its just a matter if the script was good and if he doesn't over edit it.

I define a Prometheus fan as someone who liked that film and/or were invested in Shaw's quest as she flew off into space at the end of the film. If you wanted to see her continuing adventure, this wasn't the film you wanted.

The like\dislike ratio isn't as important as word of mouth and buzz IMHO, and the comments are filled with endless complaining. Right now the discussion around Covenant is mixed which can quickly turn toxic, which is concerning since the continuation of this story and potentially the Blommkamp film will be hanging in the balance. And make no mistake, there are people who would be interested in memeing this film into failure for fun.

I feel that if they released this trailer a few weeks ago as a total surprise, the reaction would be very different. Heck, with how stressed and frustrated people have been this year maybe it would have been a better idea to wait until January when people are refreshed for the new year.

Liked it. Not super bothered about trailers though. Have seen trailers I didn't like for films I liked and vice versa. Mostly I'm just in on the idea of another Alien film and seeing if I enjoy it or not. You could put out a supercut of concept art soundtracked by a short interview with Ridley Scott explaining the premise and I'd be like "cool. hmu when it comes out k".

It's not Christmas here anymore in the UK (AM on boxing day) but Merry Christmas to everyone all the same. Try not to argue with one another. I understand that when someone talks negatively about something you like (or vice versa) that it's easy to feel 'threatened' in a sense. I feel it too all the time. Important thing to do is to react appropriately. If they've phrased it in a dickish way then politely tell them to be a bit more cordial. If they've written it in a level-headed way then just take it on board and move on, or have a discussion about it. A nice, normal discussion. You get the level of discourse that you deserve.

StrangeShape

I must say, the trailer started out really good, but that slasher scene at the end? Ugh, sorry but Im surprised Ridley would go for something like this

windebieste

The thing that completely mystifies me about this trailer is the release date.  Christmas Day.

Christmas Day?  Really..?

How much more disconnected with everything that Christmas means to people can you get?

Fox Marketing Exec #1:  "when should we release a major movie trailer featuring hideous monsters shredding up the crew of a space ship when people need it the least?"

Fox Marketing Exec #2:   "How about Christmas?"

Fox Marketing Exec #1:  "Excellent idea!  No one needs any more of that 'Joy to the World' and 'Goodwill to All' stuff on Christmas Day as much as they need a gory scary ALIEN trailer.  Let's do it!"

Seriously, though, why release an 'ALIEN' trailer of all things on Christmas Day?  I just don't get it...
