Cant believe what the negative nancies are crying about with this trailer. What the f**k are you expecting? Fox wanted to get across the fact that this is scary, intense and has aliens in it. Because thats what us fanboys want, isnt it? Waaaa too much cg, waaaa a shower scene. I cant believe some you are comparing the vibe of that scene to avpr. Are you f**king kidding me? Ridley could make a better movie than that piece of shit with his left nut. Waaa its too much like prometheus, waaa its too much like alien... Its tiny clips of the movie, give it the benefit of the doubt. You want this franchise to keep going, give it your money, no matter what you think of the first teaser. My apologies to Hicks, i know you dont like profanity, but this needed to be said

Jesus, and to think we are fans, why so many complaints? it doesnt look bad at all, i get that some of you are unsure because you didnt liked Prometheus but jeez they are complaining about literally everything, and is Scott making Alien again after so many years! that alone should make us really happy, he knows what he is doing

Yeah guys, stop having opinions and feelings and preferences! To hell with us being a collection of individuals responding to something and expressing our personal responses to a highly subjective form of entertainment. Just like everything!

Theres opinions, and there is bitching for the sake of bitching

MrSpaceJockey

You're the one assuming and accusing that people are bitching for the sake of bitching.  Please stop.

Not everyone can be pleased. Some people want this and others want that and not everything can be crammed into one movie.

I am personally really pleased with what I saw and am super pumped to see the movie. I have no expectations though because that's another road to disappointment if they're not met. Just go in there expecting to see a film set in the Alien universe, it's the only way to be sure...

According to your post, everything is the latter.

Feels cheap. The opening of the trailer could belong to any number of low budget sci fi horrors.

If this is cheap then I'm Papa Emeritus ;)

can you sign my rise above OG copy of "Opus Eponymous" before I sell it on discogs?  i wanna see if i can get some extra cash out of it.

I don't get the hate either, Alien Covenant is a direct response to the criticism of Prometheus and a ton of Alien fanservice, a chance to fix the issues with the first film and also tie it into the legendary Alien film, and in the process bringing the Xenos back. I could never have imagined that people would complain about a 2 minute trailer. Wow...

Fortunately I'm super excited to see what Ridley brings to the table now that the hype job Lindelof is "lost"

What hate? The majority of people here are loving it. Look at the poll. I think the numbers speak for themselves.

Now if you're talking about the whole internet in general then that's different. I don't know what that consensus is.

Still reserving full judgement until I see more, but there was a lot to like; the Möbius inspired costume designs and Daniels' helmet and head gear look great and retro, perhaps my favourite element thus far. I get the feeling each death will one up each other, as well, so as far as body horror is concerned it looks like it'll put all else before it to shame.
The shot of David and Weyland in that big white room is some damn fine composition, and those aerial shots, superb. I'm loving the more retro bridge design on the dropship, a nice mash up of Alien and Aliens there.
Shower scene will most likely be foreshadowed earlier in the film as it seems like a decontamination area, so I'm waiting for more context, but I don't mind a few unpretentious 80s slasher tropes my self.
It's not a perfect trailer, but it's far better for the film itself to be better than the trailer, and it won't be the last trailer.
The trailer for The Martian didn't exactly blow me away either, so leave that for the finished film itself I say.

My issue is mostly with the trailer itself. The trailer for Prometheus did an excellent job of creating a sense of rising tension. You get a sense of the growing mystery and discovery and dread -- more than the finished film, as far as I'm concerned. It was a really good piece of advertising.

This trailer starts with a gory kill and then throws as many flashes of action and "horror" at you as it can. It feels like it was outsourced to a company that specialises in slasher movie trailers. It advertises the film as a largely mindless series of death scenes strung together on a thin plot.

I was expecting a better-edited trailer that created an actual sense of tension. Alien's trailer nailed this, Prometheus' trailer nailed this, so it wasn't much to ask for this to follow suit. It didn't.

There are flashes in it I really like, but every piece of footage they showed surrounding the Aliens and neomorphs and what have you lacked any sense of imagination or creativity. It portrays the film as bottom-of-the-barrel sci fi horror and that's really disappointing. Monster shows up, snarls, blood, next scene.

Arguably, that's how Alien goes, too -- but that's not how the trailer showed it. It showed it as an intense, claustrophobic nightmare and left the generic aspects of the story to the film itself. So I have hope for Covenant the movie, but no love for Covenant the trailer.

You can never please everyone & that's just how things are.

It is interesting to see so much criticism about the shower scene;  I think it will end up as one of most memorable, not just from Covenant but across Alien franchise.   Real horrors are not seen yet though;  they will start once they enter David' "chamber of horrors" in 2nd part of movie, of which we still know very little.  In particular what really happened with Shaw

echobbase79 I never stated the volume of the hate and I'm sure most people like it.
